Yankee Win Probability: 51.1%

It’d be nice to see an effective Pettitte tonight.  With a win tonight (or a Texas loss) the Yankees clinch a playoff berth.

Go Yankees.

Surprised to see Abreu at only 1.8 WAR.  Not that I’ve followed him this season, but his name always seems to pop up in the MSM as having a great season.

-10 defense and -3 non SB baserunning knock him down a fair amount, and a .429 SLG for a corner OF isn’t really all that good.

AGH, I cannot BELIEVE that shot by Betancourt didn’t go out. Stupid wind and rain. Red Sox sooo lucky. fuck a duck

I like Derek Jeter.

Maybe Jeter can pitch Game 4

Maybe Jeter can pitch Game 4

He’s not stretched out.  Maybe shadow him with Swisher.

Home run would be kind of nice Mr. Nimrod.

Oh, I forgot you suck. Sorry.

Runs now, please, Mr. Swisher.

Admit it. You knew they weren’t scoring.

I have a really bad feeling about the division.

11- Go hate God some more. At least that was funny.

Admit it.  You had a really bad feeling about the division when they were up 9 and had won 12 of their last 14.

God blew down a Yuniesky Betancourt three run homer in the Red Sox game already. Would have tied the game.

I hate Chone Figgins.

Great start Andy.

Battle Mode already? I guess that means Pettitte is healthy afterall.

Speed slows down the game.

Sterling sounds particularly bitchy tonight.

Is KLAA a good feed?  I can’t take Michael Kay

Outs are fun.  More of them are even funner.

I’ll give the Royals credit for putting up a fight.

Man, Chone Figgens is that bitch kid you played against in basketball in high school who would slap the floor and get right up in your face in a textbook defensive crouch with his team up by 18 with 5 minutes to go in the 4th quarter.  And then he’d have 25 points or so and 10 assists and he’d have blocked your shot once, even though he was six inches shorter than you.  And he’d give your coach a little soul hug during the handshake line afterwards.

Woah, Figgins was way safe with the naked eye.

Nope, he got him.

[21] Watching it myself. A little early to tell, but not bad so far.

They’re losing already? Christ

Vlad is simply done. Over.

The Joba Flu is running rampant through the clubhouse.

So it begins.

Royals have heart!

This is, uh, not good. How did the wheels fall off this season so fast?

Two outs and nobody on…you should be able to get out of that innings without giving up runs. Let alone many runs

I’m not particularly enjoying this game so far.

This ump is squeezing the fuck out of pettitte to boot.

The wheels are not falling off.

WJ…you’re so sad.  And angry.

Well…it’s only two runs.

Oh, sweet jesus, God just does not want the Royals to tie the game. Now a double goes foul by a millimeter.

Think it’s natural that he’d have a bit of trouble spotting pitches early.  Doesn’t look affected velocity wise.  And his breaking stuff looks ok, even if he’s not putting it exactly where he wants.

Come on Alex Gordon. Live up to the hype.

OH MY GOD!!! ROYALS TIE THE GAME!!

COMMISSIONER GORDON!! HAHA, BARD IS A CHOKING PUSSY!!

Royals tie Bosox.

Now take the lead my Bonnny Boys in Blue

[38] I don’t think gameday disagreed with any called balls. You could argue he should get the low strike call, but that’s not the same as being squeezed.

Well, the immortal Dan Bard coughed it up.  I can’t wait for Youk to hit a tree run bawmb his next time up

I’ve seen this movie before.

argh, Cano ruining the moment.

So i went to check out the royals/sox score and was stunned to see it’s only the 6th inning.  What are you guys carrying on about???????

Royals up by 2.

Robbie, you kind of .... are not very good at times.

YES! YES!! YUNIESKY BETANCAOURT PWNS BARD!!

haha!

11-9 Royals.

kronicfatigue,

It was 7-0 Red Sox, then 8-2 Red Sox, then 9-5 Red Sox, now it’s 11-9 Royals. Pretty cool. The game seemed over after the third inning.

I mean, hell, the Royals just scored 6 runs off the GREATEST BULLPEN IN HISTORY. How could you not be impressed?

Luckily, the KC bullpen is magnificent. wink

But seriously, what a cool half inning that was by KC.

I want some great vengeance and furious anger out of Yankee offense tonight.

Listen, I know Melky has set a career high in HR, because Al Leiter and/or David Cone mention it at every chance, but does he need to muscle up with the power stroke on every swing when he’s ahead in the count?

[55] Thurm, what do you expect. There was a runner on base messing with his concentration.

Royals now just 8 outs away from the greatest victory in baseball history as far as I’m concerned.

Memo to Yankee offense: Joe Saunders is mediocre. Treat him like you would treat a mediocre pitcher. Merely putting on an Angels uniform is not grounds for greatness. Think about what the Red Sox did to him.

And Mr. Rodriguez, it is about time you started hitting for some power.

Nice.  Kendrick’s now hitting only .794 against NYY since 2005

The Royals still have Soria, right?

60- They look like dorks. Refreshing beverages are the answer.
62- I know. I know.

Michael Kay (yeah, I don’t have the willpower to hit the button for the Angels feed) is saying that sometimes hazing rookies backfire?  Using Jeff Kent and the Mets as an example?  What, did that incident keep the Mets from winning their 65th game that year?

Andy needed that. What was that, 7 pitches?

Speaking of needing, I still need six more points from Reggie Wayne.

Somebody could use a chill pill. cool smirk

Come on, Random crappy Royals reliever. Don’t give in to this bald freaking leprechaun.

[68] Angels feed just ran a tribute to Gehrig/Jeter as their “Lexus Pursuit of Perfection”.

C’mon in, the water’s fine.

I like it when Molina shows bunt.  He’d have to elevate it into the gap in left field to reach first base.

Wouldn’t it be awesome if we had a 2006 vintage Wang as our third starter?

Dammit, crappy Royals reliever. You walked the leprechaun and now Victor Marntinez will doubtless hit a game tying homer.

Trey Hillman: bring in Joakim Soria to face Victor Martinez.  I don’t care if he’s your closer.  This is your Game 7

Come on Molino, work that walk.

Come on crappy reliever dude, get this guy. Stop fucking around.

Merely putting on an Angels uniform is not grounds for greatness.

Fixed.

sigh, oh Molino, you gave it everything you had.

16(!) BB’s and counting in KC, in sloppy conditions.

I seriously cannot believe that Jamey Wright is not only still in the majors, but he’s pitching right now for the Royals trying to protect a lead.

Someone hit a friekin homer.

Brooks Figgins. Mo damn.

Yay!! rain soaked dirt keeps V-Mart’s grounder in the infield and the Royals are six outs away from the greatest win in baseball history!!

[80] Now if it were JARET Wright, that’d really be something.

Now it’s time for crew chief Tim McLelland to award the Red Sox a 10th run and call the game.

67 - Thurm, of the alcoholic variety?

We’re winning this fucking game. You can take that to the bank.

I’m not much for predictions (Felix Escalona walkoffs aside), but I do tell you that Robinson Cano will have a huge hit in this game.

That was weird.  Chone Figgens just made out

Holy Berroa! Chone is retired!

[85] This is the Red Sox. The crew chief will of course award the Red Sox the five runs they would doubtless score off the Royals crappy bullpen and give them the win.

[86] Is there more than one Thurm around, that we need to qualify ?

Sam, legends die hard, I’m sippin some de-caf tea and nodding at the screen like a junkie. I just wanted to retort to your Jules ref.

Billy Wagner giving up some screaming foul balls. You mark my words, at some point this dude is going to have an epic meltdown. Hopefully in the playoffs.

What is the Yankee record when Jeter leads off a game on the road with a hit? It seems like he leaderships them off to a loss.

So Gamecast, which I use so as not to slow down tv feed, took a long pause and then said, “KC—End of 7th.”  Did they just forfeit their outs?

God I hate the Mets. Can’t those fucking retards have just minded their own business.

Maybe gamecast is ahead of the TV signal?

Looks like Abreu’s working on a little Anaheim gut

Way back in the 20th century, Bill James wrote the first essential book about baseball managers. Chris Jaffe has just written the second.

From now on, whenever I have a question about a manager, Jaffe's book will be the first and last one I reach for.

John Brattain Memorial Fund

The Hardball Times has set up a memorial fund for John Brattain's family. He left behind a wife and two teenage daughters.

Four years ago, I found from personal experience how generous the online community can be to its own in their hour of need. I am now literally begging you to be even more generous than you were to me.
