Yankee Win Probability: 48.2%

If the Yankees lose tonight, God will kill a kitten.

That makes tonight’s game really important.  Plus, it’d be nice to see A.J. Burnett pitch a few decent games before tanking in the postseason.

Go Yankees.

With a commanding lead, I like that the Yanks are regularly facing other teams’ aces.  It’s better to have a tougher sparring partner as one gears up for the big fight.  I’m looking forward to seeing what they do with King Felix tonight.

Is baltimore the default for opposing pitchers?  This happened a couple of weeks ago when they were playing toronto too.

guys the time has come to unit and SEND A LETTER TO LOHUD. tell them to check out Larry for their new Yankee beat writer

Would Larry want to do it, or to be nominated?

Hey Rilke, nice link to the Royals lad. A little perspective for us fans of a team that has ownwership dedicated (for the most part) to always putting a winning team on the field.  KC was a blue chip franchise in the Brett to Saberhagen days and the fans have nothing to cheer for now but the wonderful Chiefs.
Same for the Pirate fans, that team was always in the mix. Now… not ever. Sad.

Why doesn’t KC just copy TB?  Greinke, Soria, some high draft picks, and a real fanbase isn’t the worst starting point.

Happy New Year to everybody.  Or to everybody who thinks it is, in whatever sense.  Happy Weekend otherwise.

If Larry is even vaguely interested, I would write a letter.  I started reading this blog in it’s current version, but the first time I saw a post/essay from him I could see it was different, my jaw dropped. A thousand times anything in a paper.

Why doesn’t KC just copy TB?

your link implies that they don’t get why Tampa is a good team.

What’s the deal with tickets to the WS for SG?  I’m pretty sure we could make that happen.  I know many of the regulars have already expressed interest in this and I’m sure I’m not the only lurker who’d be willing to front some cash for the cause.

Tonight excluded, as a baseball fan it’s been a real pleasure watching Felix get better year after year.  So close to being a yankee.  Two years until he’s a free agent at the age of 25.

Bosox win.

King Felix looms.

Back to five in the loss columnn looms.

Yo Thurm ! Gonna stay up for a late game ?

Laphroaig 10 YO is completely different from the standard distillery bottling of Lagavulin, which is 16 YO.

Try the 15 YO Laphroaig if you cannot handle the peat of the 10 YO. But the 10 YO was a MONSTER years back, even more peat reek.

[7] Mazeltov mein bruder. Many more for all a yiz.
[9] We tried working that out last week. SG has real life things to do in October. Also he’s a jinx and afraid of the katt. That is a triple reverse whammy jinx if ever one existed.

Offense looms?

Yoiks Teix.

Run! No King Felix shutout looms.

I have to say that I’m a little pissed off.  When I went to Safeco, I was really looking forward to seeing Griffey, Jr., whom I’ve somehow never seen play live.  He didn’t get into the game.  And now he’s hitting cleanup, which, knock wood, signals a slack lineup for Burnett

Burnett has been very poor holding runners on base.  Ichiro’s on first and Guitierrez bunts.  Fundamentals.

if the strike zone stays this size, Burnett will have a hard time busting this slump

[12] Doubt it Pin. Wee happy hour over here tonight. Some of the lads and their spouses. Cocktails aplenty and I’m already sleepy. Grilled some nice surfy turfy and the Sambucca and Lemoncello are beginning to take a toll.

ah, sambucca.  reminds me of an old work trick.  worked in politics and my boss (an elected) was notoriously cheap when he actually decided to pay.  but he couldn’t see too well and he didn’t want to face the embarrassment of scrutinizing a check.  so we might have a glass of wine, which was our unofficial limit when on his dime.  but at dessert time, we’d covertly tell the wait staff to bring us coffee with loads of sambucca.

What Donnie baseball said in 13 can’t be disputed. I love them both but the scent of the Laphy is what premium single malts are all about.
A northern malt that I’ve always been fond of is Highland Park. Very subtle then a rush of pure joy off the back of the tounge. From the Orkney islands.
Almost in Scandinavia at that latitude. I approve of this whiskey. I may pour a wee splash just to prove it.

In that case, would you boys care to join me in a taste of Woodford ?

The king let down by one of his subjects. For the love of Mo this kid is one polished hurler.

Labot and Graham. My favorite bourb. ever, sorry Blantons, Bakers and the rest.
I’ll be right over, Pin. Where do you live?

Nice AJ. Picks are good.

Single and an error on the Melk.

[27] From where you are, take I-95 to I-80 West to I-5 North.

dead man walking.. again.

45N, 123W. But hey, it’s still early here.

[30] Guess I’ll be awhile. Sip slowly. The Katt is driving.  Safe but slow.

Carol Burnett is killing me.

that didn’t turn out so bad.  wouldn’t it be nice if he had a changeup to go with that 96 MPH on the black?  and that nice breaking ball?  wouldn’t it be nice if he got to work to Bill Hall and Josh Wilson six times every outing?

Effen big parks suck.

Don’t tell me. I know what Sterling just said…

That woulda been a solo shot if it wasn’t for the baserunner.

it was a near perfect “it is ..caught” call.

It’s amazing that Hernandez is 23 and has now logged four consecutive 30+ start seasons.

Wow, Molina showing some wheels getting into the camera frame on the putout.

[42] Aye, those innings limits have really crushed his developement. He should be in Hospice by now.

Maybe it’s time for Griffey to retire.

“Well they got the runner to third, John”—Kim Jones

Yay run!! Yay Trader!!

Coney talking about Fangraphs. Earth could be proven round some day.

I’m fini mon ami’s. Love you long time.

That train whistle is really getting old.

Play Cervelli more!

Molina should be fined for ever swinging the bat with less than 2 outs.

Ichiro is probably really good at pool.

Nice!!!!!!!!!!!!

Probably got his hand in though.

On the M’s feed they didn’t show a clean angle - and it almost looked like Teix’s foot blocked the bag, so he mighta got his hand back but not on the bag.

How’d that happen?

Did we move Damon to right ?

Did we bring Bruney in ?

that was different.

I was kinda irked that they opened with the jinx stat (Yankees’ record when leading after 8).

Ah well, que sera, sera.

That freakin’ Molina DP.

And as awful as this loss was, that was an impressive win for the Mariners. I mean, a freakin’ two-out game winning home run by ICHIRO off Mariano Rivera? That’s amazing.

That sucked more than anytihng has ever sucked before.

Swisher should fucking kill himself

God hates Kittens.

they’re gonna lose the division arent they

Good decision by Molina to call for a cutter inside.

And the DP.

[70] Detroit?

We cannot win without Posada. Ergo, he should be the MVP.

This is a non-event. The Mariners will still finish below .500, and the Yankees will still win the division.

Oh, and Texas freaking sucks.

Didn’t see that looming.

Two more in Seattle, then Anaheim looming.

Gotta win the next two looming games.

O’s will lay down and die for the Bosox, surely that is looming.

I blame Sterling, he kept telling all and sundry that the 4th batter in the inning was Suzuki, blah-blah-blah. Then insisting that they walk Suzuki. Just announce the game fool.

that was a W. wtf. Mike Sweeney

What’s this looming shit? Stuff happens. Turn the page.

congratulations red sox on your 2009 division title

[70] Looming possibility with those stupid late September games in Anaheim. Who does that to your number one franchise? Stupid, useless Selig.

[73] Yay uppbeat.

[76] Looming feeling.

Bahahaha.  It seems that SG looms in the server.

From a guy that says what was said about a kitten?

L_o_o_m_i_n_g. raspberry

Way back in the 20th century, Bill James wrote the first essential book about baseball managers. Chris Jaffe has just written the second.

From now on, whenever I have a question about a manager, Jaffe's book will be the first and last one I reach for.

John Brattain Memorial Fund

The Hardball Times has set up a memorial fund for John Brattain's family. He left behind a wife and two teenage daughters.

Four years ago, I found from personal experience how generous the online community can be to its own in their hour of need. I am now literally begging you to be even more generous than you were to me.
