Yankee Win Probability: 70.7%
Can A.J. Burnett win for the first time in seven starts? Can Nick Swisher continue his march towards .250? Can the Yankees prevent Brian Roberts from reaching base for an entire game? Tune in to find out.
Go Yankees.

“Can the Yankees prevent Brian Roberts from reaching base for an entire game?”
What happened to the “just plunk him and save pitches” plan?
Yay, Jeter is a 5 WAR player!
Can A-Rod be a 3 WAR player?
Hmmmm, yesterday the O’s hit their 1B Scott 9th, and had their worst hitter Izturis hitting 2nd. Tonight 1B Scott is 6th and Izturis is hitting 9th.
I think their manager is done caring about how things turn out and is throwing darts at a board to determine batting order outside of Roberts leading off. Or maybe having them draw from a hat, Billy Martin-style.
70% win probability: is this one of those statistics that can’t bear to go above a certain number no matter what? Like, say, 70%?
[3] LHP vs RHP?

What about the business aspect of these things. Sometimes I feel that this blog devalues the business aspect.

It’s tough to get too much above that on the road, since I have to give the home team a home field advantage correction and the road team a road disadvantage correction (.02 added or subtracted to the estimated winning percentage based on the revised projections of the lineups and pitching staffs). If it was C.C. pitching it’d go up to 74.5%. If it was C.C. vs. Jason Berken, it’d get up to 75.5%.
Sometimes I feel that this blog devalues the business aspect.
I was thinking that I should start a separate blog strictly devoted to the business side of things. Maybe that and how much I hate certain players.

This
I was thinking that I should start a separate blog strictly devoted to ... how much I hate certain players.
and so much This
Can Swisher hit a 1.000 road OPS? That excites me.
JFTR my gmail is back.
8. SG why do you hate certain players? It’s so hateful.
[5] My drawing names from a hat theory is much more fun than your boring platoon theory, even if yours is probably correct.
[7] Do the Orioles actually have a home field advantage against the Yankees? Especially at this point in the season when the O’s fans have given up and Camden is Yankee Stadium South?
Actually, I was kind of disappointed that only 25,000 Yankee fans made it out to last night’s game. Then again, folks like myself can’t really pack the kids in the minivan and do the three hour drive up to Baltimore on a school night.
[13] - That raises a good question. What is the origin of home field advantage? Is it the crowd, is it park familiarity, or is it travel fatigue? I’d bet it’s all three, but to what extent I have no idea.
“25,000 Yankee fans made it out to last night’s game”
This is a joke, no? Ditto [13]? If not, then don’t the O’s have a rich owner with a sense of shame who could buy up the tickets for Yankees games and give them to little league families in or around Baltimore?

And getting last licks.
Ah, duh. Right.
[16] The total paid attendance last night was ~25K. It was probably close to equal numbers of fans of each team. So yes, it was a joke. OTOH, in recent years I have been to several Yankee games at Camden that were near sellouts with at least 2/3 Yankee fans. Including one where Derek Jeter signed an autograph for my son and then hit a two run homer. Not that that last part means anything, especially for the business aspect of things.
As for Angelos’ sense of shame, he’d clearly rather have the Yankee fans’ money.
MC, how much money has flowed from to the Yankees organization as a result of that day? (What percentage of CC’s salary have you paid?)
That WP is ridiculous.
“near sellouts with at least 2/3 Yankee fans”
It’s becoming increasingly irksome to me that the O’s, Jays, and even Rays are stuck with the Yankees and RS. I guess the chance of rotating some teams to new divisions is identically zero, though.
What percentage of CC’s salary have you paid?
I don’t know if this thing has enough decimal places to answer that accurately.
Oh A.J. You inspire more confidence for the month of October with every start.
AJ looking, erm, hittable.
Too much up in the zone?
Rays pathetic attendance for a make or break series.
SG, can you tweak your system based on the relievers available and/or the likihood of a player sitting (i.e. if it’s a day game after a night game, posada is more likely to sit)? if you could get really good at predicting a game, you could be onto something financially speaking.
No he wouldn’t because I believe that you can’t predict baseball.
Rockets to left of him rockets to the right of him.
What is the origin of home field advantage?
Top 5 Visitor’s locker room features:
1. Overhead flourescent lights flicker at 5Hz.
2. Stairs down from dugout lead to stairs up to locker room so visitors have to upsgo tairs both directions.
3. Funhouse mirrors everywhere !
4. Barrier-free “al fresco” seating in the restroom stalls.
5. That ain’t gatoraide.
Keep it up, Robby. Keep it right up.
Cano is my fucking favorite. Move over Jorge.
BABIP still 0.000 for the Yankees this game.
Pin- Upsgo Tairs sounds like a great vacation get away spot. Is there a casino?
[22]
I’m not speaking to you anymore. (sniff!)
Thurm, it’s called “rum”...
/go upstairs/
Don’t recall seeing a WP represented so obviously on gameday before - was that really way off?
[31]
Rockets to the left off him, rockets to the right off him… into the valley of death…
Rum is good. Sailor Jerry guy when I imbibe. Wintertime mostly.
Can someone please explain why anyone would slide into first ? I don’t get it.

Burnett’s location is abysmal so far. Roberts just popped up an awful pitch.

On the other hand that Cano home run was really awesome.
[42]
Because his career in Baltimore is ending and he wants prop up his exaggeratedly legendary status by trying to look heroic?
AJ sucks right now.
hip hip Jorge!!!
move over cano.

Woah, Jorge styling. This team is feeling it.
typed Sado!!! Strange stuff happened to my pc after I hit submit.
You have to actively work hard to walk Cano on 4 pitches.
AWESOME hook..best pitch of the day so far for AJ
grrrrrrrrrr
now he sucks again
stop sucking
this ump is also annoying
uh, out? what the heck
Time to battle, AJ.
I would like to acquire Markakis for the Yankees.
(Without giving up anything I like in return, of course.)
[53] Angel Hernandez, who we have some history with.
Can we get Pujols as well?
I remember this AJ from the first third of the season. Didn’t we trade him for the other AJ?
AJ getting squeezed a bit for sure.
[56] Too bad we don’t have Ransom as a trading chip.
Oh Alex…you are terrible at defense.

Man oh man is A-Rod’s range shot this season.
Nice hose Swish…
Arod, yikes.
3 inning AJ rules ?
I was surprised to see that A-Rod was above average on D for August. I was sure he was going to be at least a few runs below average due to limited mobility.
oh well…it’s only tied. Let’s win this effer
Stop swinging at balls, fatso.
And there’s your .400 on base.
Mitre to miss his start on Thursday - Gaudin instead.
[71]
Explanation proferred?
He came out of that dominating start after taking a ball off his throwing arm, I guess he’s still hurting.
Bandbox. What a joke.
72- The Murti guy on FAN said Meat is likely to start one of the games on Monday. Saddddddoooooo!!!!!!!!!
Called that one to my dad on the phone. Serial.
Reminiscent of the Bernie HR a while back.
Man I love this team.
Posada is so fucking cool. HOF!
Good team.
Wouldn’t it be a great team with that other AJ? Can we get him?
Gaudin c’est bon, oui?
Way to move, A.J.
I love AJ but he’s a meathead…
Allan James,
Please get outs.
Sincerely,
Concerned Yankee fans.
This two baserunners on at some point in each inning thing… is it all part of the plan?
And if it is… can we please get a new plan?
A.J.‘s been throwing way too many crappy breaking pitches. Throw a fastball, dingus.
Nevermind. Just hit the showers, asshole. What a waste.
Nice one, AJ. Real #$%$@#in;g nice.
Sigh.
You people just can’t be satisfied. First you don’t like baserunners. So he gets rid of the baserunners, and you still complain ?

Burnett is like the lesser sequel to Javy Vazquez. What a bummer.
fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck
AJ’s post-season ERA will be like 5.5- his reputation will depend on which comes later in the series, his gem or his 8ER debacle.
Can you possibly get a batter out in this inning, A.J?
Melvin Fucking Mora, are you kidding me?
[89]
That was very funny.
[89] - A gem.
As good as we are, I fear CC starts are gonna be the only post-season starts where we don’t have the worse of the pitching matchups…
this is fucking torture
I don’t think the offense is done scoring, so AJ needs to limit the damage here and then got he fuck away.
/AJ
