Yankee Win Probability: 71.7%

Losing two straight is just a blip.  Losing three straight makes it a losing streak.  Losing streaks stink, so this is an important game.

Go Yankees.

Tedbrogen, if you’re reading this: about the catching prospects: I was acting!

I was traveling the last few days and look what happens….

Now i’m back and ready to proclaim that it’s ‘Mariano Duncan time’

(“We play today… we win today!”)

Having a better record than the Angels won’t matter until the ALCS, right?  Because the WC will come out of the West or East, and the Best team can’t play the WC if it’s in the same division.

Am I missing something?  B/c if i’m not, I’m goign to stop caring about winning and losing and care more about staying ahead in the division.

2. i thought about mariano duncan time the other day. I think it’s a little early for that but i do like the way this team is goin right now.

Did you guys catch this article:

Matsui thinks ailing left knee will be fine

A healthy Godziwa can’t hurt…

[5] Yeah I saw that. I pronounced the greyhound tosser all but cooked in May 08. Glad I was very wrong. That said…...Dear BC, Don’t even consider it.

Isn’t Matsui’s problem with his knees the result of a degenerative condition?

Not that we care that much any more, but the Sox are in big trouble north of the border… Papelbum is in for a four-out save and is failing miserably… two runs in and the lead is cut to 10-9… bases now juiced

I thoroughly enjoy watching Papelbon struggle.  I keep recalling a conversation I had with a Sox fan in ‘07 where he laughed at my suggesting I would (then, but still now) take Rivera as a closer over Papelbon.

Isn’t Matsui’s problem with his knees the result of a degenerative condition?

Might be… but, i’ve had a knee scoped for a torn miniscus (sp) and it took about 9-12 months for it to recover…

Anyone else get that vicious storm that just traversed Manhattan?

He gets out of the inning with a warning track fly to left… the 9th should be interesting…

Not that we really care…

Jonathon, i mentioned a few weeks ago that Sox fans have had these arguments every year… Jeter vs Nomar… Tom Gordon vs (younger) Rivera… they’re just obsessed with beating the Yankees that it clouds their objectivism…

Wait, there’s a flag on the field.

[11] You mean this?

NWS Radar

Bastid hit Alex.

[11] Not yet. The night is young. Who needs electricity?
Just hit that elbow some more. Modammit.

At this rate, A-Rod’s elbow will be a clump of broken bone bits.

I like Jorgy Porgy in this situation…

Mazz showing questionable command. Keep it up lad!

Failing to score here would be….disappointing.

It’s amazing how many broadcasters have trouble distinguishing between fair and foul balls.

Well that blew.

Now Sterling is gaffing balls and stikes… Jeez…

Posada has kinda sucked since the Toronto series.

Disappointing.

[24] You are correct sir…

SPLITS     G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS

Last 7 days 6 25 2 5 2 0   1 3   0 11 0 0 .200 .200 .400 .600

Look at the walk to SO ratio… not good

Still 10-9 in Loserville. Bottom of the 9th.

Both our SS and 2Bman could be WRs.

Posada has a .752 OPS over the last month. He’s also striking out at a greater frequency than any year since 2002, and is walking at a lower rate than any (full) season of his career.

If we can load the bases with 1-2 outs every inning this game, we probably score 2, maybe 4 runs for the game. Plenty for CC.

Ump sisifying baseball.

bottom, hee hee.

Next time make sure you hit him.

Maybe you should have actually plunked him, CC.
How embarrassing.

In the words of OTF, well that blew

What are you guys talking about? What is embarassing?

Oh, I see.

[37] Throwing inside in retaliation, not hitting the batter, and then him hitting a HR.

What are you guys talking about? What is embarassing?

CC threw behind Suzuki to send a message about plunking A-Rod.
Next pitch, HR.

Tying run on first in Toronto.

Yeah, thanks guys.

Really don’t want to drop this series (yeah, I know it’s early). Remember when they got swept in KC that one year?

Shit call on RC.

That’s two bs calls in two nights. Girardi needs to get out there and get kicked out if necessary.

Vin Mazzaro….Vinnie Mazzaro….outta Hackensack….why isn’t this guy a Yankee??

Oh well, two outs in Toronto.

...all the way to the wall…

It’s over in Toronto… Sox win 10-9

first and second, two down, Papsmear….............. saves it.

I’ll take a cheap run all day…

Better.

The Yankees haven’t been able to score lately without some significant help from the opposing defense.  Disconcerting.

Capt. Clutch !!

MVP can force players to make errors with his smile.

That was kinda odd.

Nice hit and run… time for a Teix message?

2 innings, 50 pitches. Why isn’t this guy a Yankee ?

Before Sox fans get too excited, TB beat the O’s and Texas is up on Minn…

[57] Good one Pin…

Damn jetstream.

C’mon, man.

For those of you with only radio tonight (like me), this may be helpful…

Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum

That sounds like it would have gone out in NYS…

That sounds like it would have gone out in of NYS…

The homeplate ump calls strikes as if he was on ludes.

Uh oh… Sterling has just agreed with SG… says this game is important…

Is the apocalypse that far behind?

Man, Matsui swung at ball 4 at least twice in that AB.

WOW.  Glad we don’t have that Hairston.

WTG, Po.

swish abreau in left for the oaktowners.

What a shock… Cano swings at the first pitch…

Did we trade Damon to the A’s in the last 15 minutes ?

Well Texas certainly fell apart tonight.

Worst. Baserunner. Ever.

Well, that blew…

Wait. What?

Jorge and baserunning, a match made in hell.

Posada didn’t feel comfortable after having actually gotten an extra base hit.  So he inexplicably attempted to take third on a ball in the dirt even with that piano strapped to his back.

It’s like one of those things like “He’s a bad defender” - you just have to balance it against all of his pros, and Jorge’s pros are massive.

But man, his baserunning sure is a con.

74- ernie lombardi. damn close though.

Jeter’s range up the middle is now so improved, he no longer has to dive.

Charles Cheesetosser needs a few more innings of nonsucking. Maybe 4 more,

Is Oakland is playing drunk?

[52] in play again.

I’m wondering if the Yankees, on games CC pitches, could forfeit the DH and instead have a DR for Posado.

Jeter being Jeterian…

Captain Badass.

[84] couldn’t we think of it as ruthlessly exploiting our opponents’ weaknesses?

Ok… time to take advantage of this situation…

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrr’s Johnny!

Where will Jeter place on players who deserved the MVP and never got it?

Lt. Commander Badass!

Oscar, it doesn’t offend me when other teams make errors. I say give them chances to fail.

I hate WOE.  Go away.

It’s gonna be one of those games…

If Jeter didn’t win in 2006, when he was the clear MVP of the team and carried the Yanks to the playoffs after they lost Matsui/Sheffield and had a down year from Arod, he won’t win this year, when most MSM types think Tex has been more valuable.

Maybe he’ll have a huge 6 weeks and bang out 10 HR and finish hitting .340, and Mauer nosedives. I think that’s the only way.

Just keep loading the bases. The runs will take care of themselves.

Jeter should have won the MVP in ‘99. His OPS+ was 153. Pudge won it with a 125.

Man, Damon is bad.

Way back in the 20th century, Bill James wrote the first essential book about baseball managers. Chris Jaffe has just written the second.

From now on, whenever I have a question about a manager, Jaffe's book will be the first and last one I reach for.

John Brattain Memorial Fund

The Hardball Times has set up a memorial fund for John Brattain's family. He left behind a wife and two teenage daughters.

Four years ago, I found from personal experience how generous the online community can be to its own in their hour of need. I am now literally begging you to be even more generous than you were to me.
