Comments
I wish this game was on earlier. Its Saturday for cryin’ out loud.
I’m leaving for school tomorrow! I hope Sergio wins one for me.
There really is not reason for this game to be starting so late.
Via Pete Abraham Marte has been excused from AAA for “personal reasons”
Clay… you’re already on the left coast…
[5] yeah, but even so I’m of the opinion weekend games should generally be during the day. Day games are great for the fans and there’s no reason not to hold them on the weekends.
I love day games… but, we are in the money era (or, is it the PED era?)
Hey… i just noticed the Swisheroo is batting 2nd… and, Mr. Utility is in LF…
J. Hannahan, 3B (.193/.278/.303, 1.0 WAR)
Is his defense that good?
Is his defense that good?
He’s the Ransom to Beltre’s Rodriguez.
Seattle’s lineup not particularly good. I thin Mitre pitches OK tonight. Similarly I have a good feeling about Joba going deep tomorrow.
MLB EI sucks. Seattle’s announcers in HD or YES announcers in non-HD? I need to cut down like 100 trees and get DirecTV again.
Are the Seattle announcers bad?
Perfect game’s finally broken up.
I just can’t keep up with the chatter tonight.
Odds on loading the bases without scoring?
No hits, but so far this game looks promising.
How will the Rangers fuck this up?
Apparently zero. I like the 27 pitches, one inning thing, though.
[27] Considering how the first two ABs went - yes, that’s pretty terrific.
Melky, where was your fat ass on that play?
Bad Cano!
Since we have Mitre pitching, a few errors are ok - he doesn’t really need the help, right?
haha, Petunia K.
The Rangers better not fuck it up again.
That run is on Los Dominicanos.
Cano is locked in.
hahaha.
We’ve seen some good D in this game.
Yay Rangers too
WJ, they are fighting to get that run back for you.
A moment of Prowess, please, Molino.
Prowess!
Run(s)?!?
Good thing for Damonesque throw.
Already better than DJ’s 1st AB.
Manufacturey goodness
Swishalicious!
NYS is just totally inflating Swisher’s HR totals this year. It’s a laughingstock.
That was great…Swisher three run homer at the same time that Ramon Ramirez balks in an insurance run for the Rangers.
Oh man, this team. It’s amazing.
4 runs and 49 pitches. Offense is doing okay. They can take the night off now and let Mitre hold the lead.
Varitek with another 6 sb, 0 cs. Why didn´t we run on him again?
Remember when the Kingdome was a house of horrors? Griffey, Edgar, Buhner, Tino, Randy Johnson, Joey effing’ Cora, Norm Charlton and his blond jerry curl…
[36]
Funny
And, belatedly:
NOTHING BUT NET!!!!!!!!!
I’ve been watching the Sox, and though I will never pass up an opportunity to make fun of the decomposing corpse of Jason Varitek, most of the SBs can be chalked up to fat slob Penny.
Safeco is a really pretty stadium.
Hey lads. Yanks suck ehh?
[39]
also funny
Pitcher’s best friend.
Hannanananan is their #6 hitter tonight? Holy moly, that’s sad.
[43] Well, there were 6 of them. I´m glad Penny is helping, but varitek must have had at least a good shot in what, 2 of them?
Don’t get the universal love for Seattle Stadium (is it all right if I don’t participate in corporate marketing schemes?).
Admission: I haven’t been there, I’ve only seen it on TV and in pictures.
It’s a relatively modern ballpark. Doesn’t look like anything in particular… it looks ok. It’s obviously very well done for the press, every member of which raves about it as if we’d all finally been returned to Eden.
It looks… ok. No more interesting than that.
The Ballpark at Arlington looks about a hundred times cooler.
What am I missing?
Thurm!
I’ve been up in Schroon Lake for the last week, no interwebs, but dish tv, so I was able to despair at the Yanks suckitude this last week.
Boy, the Rangers got a really nice return on Teix, didn’t they?
Wombat,
It’s a hell of a lot cooler than the shit show in the Bronx.
booo
Robinson Cano is my dark horse MVP candidate.
Definitely should have A-Rod running after a leadoff walk and the heart of the order coming up. Does Girardi know that the goal is to score the most runs possible, not just do some bullshit overmanaging because they have the lead. That’s all.
[53]
You may or may not recall that, although I’m not all that worked up about the alleged jet stream to right, I think NYS is a lousy stadium that expressions the dirty, nasty stuff that collects in that empty place that was left empty when the angel who hands out souls passed Lonn Trost and Randy Levine by.
So that may have been a joke, but I agree, nevertheless.
haha, Papi K.
“expressions”=“expresses all”
No worries, Feliz has this locked down.
Melky missed a meatball, but Frenchy is living by the grace of the BABIP gods.
Feliz - 7 1/2 innings pitched, 2 hits (a homer and a single), no walks - FIFTEEN FREAKIN’ STRIKEOUTS!!!
Seriously, I really don’t think we need to worry about the Red Sox.
On the other hand, more runs in THIS game would not be amiss.
[50] I’ve been there a couple times. Seems like there’s a great view of the field from every seat. Very fan friendly behind the seats. I just like the way it looks from the seats. And they have the retractable roof that woulda been nice in NYS.
Yankee Stadium is just stupid. It’s a cheesy replica of a remodeled 1970s stadium that cost $1.5 billion. At least Safeco has some character of its own.
I have no problem with letting A-Rod steal if he saw an opportunity. He got a good jump, and was unlucky to have to pay off to a LIDP (which is a lot less likely than the GIDP that stealing prevented).
Hey Dave-O. Summertime fun, just like the olden days. Man, I’m loving this team, this season.
Yfin. How dem Duvels?
Wombat,
I want the Sox to miss the playoffs. Beckett/Lester scare me.
Another SB on Varitek. that’s 7 today
[64]
That’s entirely believable.
But that’s entirely unlike the word the broadcasters use: it’s a BEAUTIFUL stadium.
Good sight lines, well distributed vending - it sounds like a wonderfully functional stadium.
But - beautiful? I see no signs of character or personality or anything that would emotional attach one to the place. And yes, I love that stuff in a stadium.
WJ,
I want the Sox to miss the playoffs. Petty spite.
I see a lot of character. It’s architectually distinct…it’s not a retro park, it’s a modern, impressive looking product of its era.
WJ, isn’t that a reason to want to play (and beat) them in the playoffs?
Common as it is, risk-averse sports-watching just makes no sense to me at all.
Swish Kaline!!!
8 Stolen Bases. Varitek crying on the field.
[73] I agree. I want to play the Red Sox in the ALCS and send them home.
[69] That sucks that the Rangers are stealing at will against Varitek. This could encourage the Red Sox to have Martinez catch more often and give the Red Sox a better lineup. Hopefully, Francona believes that Varitek’s handling of the staff supersedes his measurable ineptitude at throwing out runners and hitting.
[72]
I’m not denying that such a thing is possible. The “sail” over the proposed Tampa Stadium would be a great example, if it ever happened. But Seattle? I just don’t see it… but I haven’t been there. What is there about it that gives it character?
Mitre on track to go 9.
Hey Thurm. Enjoyed most of them last Sunday during the game. They were great, and the whole freedom from the kids, 4 games winning streak, back to back HRs to take the lead made for a very enjoyable night. I still have one on the fridge. Thinking about opening it now. Wasn´t too keen on spending it on a Mitre start, but he has been pitching very well this game.
Also, “product of its era” isn’t very persuasive. Aren’t gothic cathedrals from the 19th-century cultural revivals in European countries “products of their eras?” Camden Yards is nothing if not a product of its era. (Especially given the awful Edith-and-Mervyn Finkelsteinowitz-Memorial-Suburban-Hospital-Wing-Pavilion bricks from which it’s built, which completely prevent it from looking at all like a genuinely old ballpark.)
Well Wombat, Architecture is obviously as subjective as art or music. I like the imposing, almost industrial brutalism of the retractable roof structure.
Pete,
I didn’t say it was Versailles, but yeah, I do think they did just about everything well. It feels like its built for the fans. And I do like the lines of the roof.
Any place called “Yankee Stadium” will always be “grand”.
Bitchiro is good at the baseball game stuff.
Lowercase brutalism, not uppercase
[82 & 83]
That IS interesting. And not usually visible on TV.
Thanks!
[84]
Noisssss, OTF.
Also, Varitek with 8sb tonight. That is like a bad week worth of stolen bases.
dagger…7-2 Texas
[88]
He’s fast.
Feliz - 7 1/2 innings pitched, 2 hits (a homer and a single), no walks - FIFTEEN FREAKIN’ STRIKEOUTS!!!
It’s nuts. 26 batters, and only 11 have put the ball in play. He has a .077 BAA, and it’s not a BABIP thing.
Hamilton tacking on some more runs!
The game is almost Francisco-proofed.
Wow, the Red Sox respond by BEANING Kinsler in the head.
Really? He got hit in the head?
That was about as obvious an intentional beaning as you’ll see.
[94] Seriously? Was the pitcher tossed?
Kinsler hit flush on the earflap with a 90 mph fastball. scary stuff. he stayed in the game. Looked a bit rung up.
[95]
If I read those tables correctly yesterday, that ties them with the Yankees: each has now hit 51 (or is it 52) batters.
I so seriously hope Texas takes the WC from Boston. MFers.
