Melky playing again? Seriously? Looks like Jeter’s out with his bruised instep. I like Abreu DHing and Nady in RF.
Comments
i miss wang
Bruised instep? Crap.
I guess we’ll see about momentum today. I’m sure Kay will mention it.
At this point I wouldn’t be surprised if a line drive ricocheted off every Yankee in the field and put them all on the DL. *sigh*
At this point I wouldn’t be surprised if a line drive ricocheted off every Yankee in the field and put them all on the DL. *sigh*
And then the entire game was disqualified because of a tilt.
A-Rod and Giambi proving their unclutchness.
why wouldn’t Melky play if Jeter is hurt?
what is the alternative, Christian?
doesn’t seem worth complaining about.
In play, run(s) is my favoritest thing to see on these here Intarwebs.
Professor X…boooooo!
In play, run(s) is my favoritest thing to see on these here Intarwebs.
me too.
i mean, after porn, obviously.
Melky is sneaky, he finds a way into the line-up.
Only if he could sneak into a base unnoticed…
Only if he could sneak into a base unnoticed…
sliding headfirst into 1B isn’t really the way to go unnoticed
doesn’t seem worth complaining about.
But complaining is fun.
And Giambi was so stoked about playing 1b today
I wish to high heaven mlb.tv wasn’t blocked at work. following along on espn’s gamecast is awful.
Darrell Rasner struck out Joe Mauer? Huh?
But complaining is fun.
very true.
but there is too much complaining. it’s my biggest complaint.
A-Rod and Giambi proving their unclutchness.
I’ll give you Giambi, but if one believes in clutchiness as a repeatable skill, A-Rod’s double is was unclutch as you can get in the top of the first with a 0-0 scour (because of the two outs). It was only worth 0.021 WPA. Of course, I don’t blame A-Rod for Damon and Abreu’s lack of clutchiness
(they had 0.87 and 0.63 LI compared to his 0.41). This is all a reminder of how silly a thing “clutch” generally is.
The Big G giveth and the Big G taketh away.
Are there any computer experts here? I’m purchasing a law school laptop, what is recommended?
The Big G giveth and the Big G taketh away.
Unless G stands for Hole In Giambi’s Glove (Literally), this is incorrect.
Are there any computer experts here? I’m purchasing a law school laptop, what is recommended?
I’m no expert but I use a MacBook and a Dell Latitude D505. I much prefer the MacBook.

What’s your budget and what do you want it to do?
[19] IBM Think Pad.
Can we talk about the fact that Razz just struck out Mauer and Morneau back to bizzack? Color me shocked.
Recommend Office 2007 over 2003
Unless G stands for Hole In Giambi’s Glove (Literally), this is incorrect.
Maybe it’s a sign.
I think, even though I’ll get crucified by stat experts, the only way to “measure” clutch is to watch games.
“Clutch” to me is basically a description of how confident you are that someone will come through when you feel the game is on the line. Very arbitrary, varies from viewer to viewer, and player to player. But by this definition, I won’t argue with people, and I might tend to agree with them, that it seems A-rod failes in an inordinate number of these opportunities.
Of course it’s also possible/likely that this is because we expect more from him and thus remember his failures more than everyone else’s. Again, clutch is stupid, but it’s a fun idea to play with and I think it makes the game more fun to talk about.
And don’t get me wrong, A-rod is awesome. I only rag on him because of how awesome he is.

It’s hard to answer that without a better sense of what you plan to use it for, so instead of trying to offer advice, I’ll just ask some questions:
- How important are mobility features to you? For example:
- Light weight
- Long battery life
- Do you plan to run anything which will be graphically intense (games, mostly)
Do you have any applications or files that it needs to be compatible with?
Do you run several applications at once?
Do you have anything large you want to store on it? (music, videos…)
What’s your budget and what do you want it to do?
2K is my max that the school will reimburse me with loan money annnnnnd I want it to word process and do work things. I don’t play PC games, but I do download a lot and like myself some streaming video.
my new macbook is off the hizook
You know what really goes unnoticed about this Yankees team? They are really good at flying out to left field, but they are also really good at flying out to right field.
It’s an awesome two pronged attack.
Recommend Office 2007 over 2003
Office 2007 has useful new features, but it’s also significantly slower on less powerful hardware, and has a default file format which most people won’t be able to open (it can save in the old format if you remember to set it that way). Whether to get 2003 or 2007 depends a lot of context. In general, I’d avoid both Vista and 2007 if you’re economizing on hardware. If you’re getting a high end machine, then you have more options, and you might well want both if you’re going the Windows route.
“my new macbook is off the hizook”
Could you translate that into geezer?
If you are using it mostly for word processing spend 400 bucks on an Eee PC. I’,m not sure how they do with streaming video. Don’t worry about storage, just get an external HDD.
“if you’re going the Windows route”
Hey, hey, take it easy.
You know what really goes unnoticed about this Yankees team? They are really good at flying out to left field, but they are also really good at flying out to right field.
except with men on 3B and less than 2 outs.
then they switch their prowess to hitting infield pop-ups or striking out.
Telnar is right. 2007 is awesome, but because it is awesome it needs power.
just use open office.
For what its worth, I bought a Lenovo laptop a year ago and its got the best tech support of any computer company I’ve worked with so far. (this of course implies I’ve had to use their tech support)
Open office?
Could you translate that into geezer?
his new slide-rule is super terrific.
freeware. has apps that are very similar to microsoft office and they play together well.
Or can go my route and get free software.
Every software in Brazil is free.
Fabian, let me know if you need any old texts. I have a bunch that don’t really get replaced each year like most law texts. Mostly legal writing guides, etc.
unfortunately I now have to go to work, since I slept through my alarm and we are dealing with a rather massive malware outbreak.
“Open office?”
Successor to star office I think. I still usually find a windows machine to deal with word docs despite having oo installed - the results are just ugly too often otherwise.
Also, I would buy office through the school not through whomever you purchase your computer from. It will save you hundreds of dollars
Is OO Mac-compatible?
# How important are mobility features to you? For example:

Tremendously important.
No.
Don’t think so.
Always.
Yes.
Last 5 batters: 2 flies to right, 2 flies to left, 1 fly to center. At least we’re symmetrical.
This sounds like the Holy Grail of laptops. If you want something that will run graphically intense games, you sacrifice size. In other words, if you want a lightweight laptop, be prepared to play Commander Keen.
the macbook provides you with performance and portability. the batt-life is sweet. have you ever tried expose? it gives women the urge to make sex on you. as a former pc counterstrike playing loser with braces who had never seen a boobie, the mac gives me everything i could ever need in a smoove, smoove package. it will increase the size of that certain part of the male body. also, you don’t need to pay some stranger to come into your home and spray poison around your children, pets and food.
I didn’t see it, but I know Damon couldn’t have done whatever Melky just did.
Wait, did Melky just do something good?
Buy a copy of consumer reports…
What about a Sony Vaio? I had one for a few years and the mobility was nice, and the style/external craftsmanship was a constant pleasure.
Me neither and I concur
Can you watch porn easily on Mac? So much of it is for Windows Media player.
Buy a copy of consumer reports…
when you have a prospect question, does Fabian tell you to buy a copy of Baseball America?
j/k…

Drawbacks include an inability to capitalize letters and compose sentences using proper English grammar.
“for Windows Media player”
Isn’t an mpeg an mpeg?
Isn’t an mpeg an mpeg?
There’s also .wmv
Most of my porn plays just fine in Quiktime. or whatever the fuck it’s called.
I’d go with the Macbook, esp. if your school is reimbursing you. If the school simply strokes you a check, then I’d also get an external backup hard drive. Sure, ‘puters today don’t crash too much, but if your hard drive gets fried and you lose your downloads and work, then you’re hosed. Even if they won’t reimburse for a peripheral like that, I’d invest in one. Backup your stuff while you sleep or watch a Yankees game.
From the sounds of what you want, don’t trick it out. Apple will make you pay through the nose for upgraded memory and storage. You don’t need it. But if you find that you want to upgrade, go through ebay or a company like Crucial and get it for half the price.
In my heart of hearts…I want a Mac…but I worry that it’s largely because of their damned marketing campaign. Are Macs really better than Dells?
So long as we’re discussing hardware, does anyone have an opinion on Macbook Air? I’m thinking of upgrading pretty soon and I’d like something that’s lighter weight. Is Air worth the investment?
Are Macs really better than Dells?
YES.
Eric Milton?
“There’s also .wmv”
I just tried to look up “batter’s interference” in the rule book but the page doesn’t like firefox/linux. I hate MS. They should establish open standards and stick to them.
i don’t know about this “porn” business but VLC player plays anyfing.
in all honesty i got a mac because i couldn’t deal with viruses and shit anymore. i have a imac at home and a macbook at work and they’ve been nothing but reliable for years. if you’re primarily surfing and media-ing, i’d say follow your heart and do it. i haven’t used a pc in years so i can’t say what they’re up to these days, though i’ve gotten my hands on vista few times and it’s not nearly as sexy as a mac. plus you can get a free ipod if you get a macbook before september.
I hear you Fabian.
I’ve had an HP for 3 years, and I’ve never had a virus, never had a system crash, nothing. I want a mac too, but only because Macs seem like they are sexier.
And my brother is an IT dude and he swears over and over that Macs are a bigger pain to support than PCs.
It’d be nice to see a baserunner from time to time, so we can get our LOB numbers up.
Is Nady a free agent after this year or next?
Fabian, Just curious ... which law school are you going to?
Anyway, my suggestion if you’re willing to spend up to a couple of grand for a law school laptop is a little bit different ... Get the cheapest portable laptop you can get and spend the rest on a desktop computer. Two reasons: (1) You can get a hell of a lot more computer in a desktop than you can in a laptop; (2) It’s important NOT to have a good computer with you in the actual classroom. It’s way too tempting to be doing three things at once if you have a decent laptop and class time is really the one part of your law school day when you should focus completely and totally on the subject-matter. (Point two doesn’t apply if you’re going to Yale or some other fancy law school where your grades won’t matter much in getting a job afterwards.)
Next.
Are Macs really better than Dells?
Yes, but they are more expensive. You’re paying for that marketing campaign that makes you want them. Again, get the baseline model and upgrade it yourself if you want at a fraction of the cost.
Dells are not as good but are cheaper. Eelz212 is right in that they will be the target of more viruses and whatnot thanks to the Microsoft OS. I also can’t stand Microsoft Vista, so if you decide to go Dell, don’t get Vista.
Think of it this way:
Dell is a replacement level pitcher.
Apple is Joba.
the IT guy in the office hates macs just because he’s only recently had to start dealing with them and he isn’t familiar with some of the setup issues. i think the bells and whistles just kinda piss him off.
I’ve had my Mac laptop for 4+ years. Never crashes, very stable, always does what’s asked of it. In the same period of time, I’m already on my third Dell - crashes constantly, loses data, gets viruses, sucks. So in my non-expert opinion, Macs are better.
Meanwhile how about this offense!
Im really hoping raz can get through 5 today, with all these baserunners his luck’s gonna run out eventually…
Jesus fucking christ Robbie you stupid piece of shit.
And i meant to say, 5 scoreless, because we won’t score again.
Can someone tell me aboput Cano’s error??
That was a sure DP he fucked up, wasn’t it.
IT guys used to Microsoft hate Macs because they are different. Apple guys hate Microsoft because they are the enemy. Sun guys look down at both. Linux guys think all three are sellouts because those OS are not free.
If you are going to be near an Apple store, don’t worry about support. You can take it there and interface with a real person. If you need to call, then I prefer Dell over Apple.
There are too many lawyers- ditch law school and get a chemistry or engineering degree. Add some value to the world. And get a Mac- it will get you laid by Hipster chicks more than a Dell will.
He came off the bag before he caught the throw. Dumbshit
andddd our d is not helping.
Need to double-up Young. Giambi’s error was atoned. Hope the same for Cano.
Girardi needs to call time, run on the field, and escort Cano into the dugout.
I’ve had it with Cano and Girardi playing footsie.
Now we know why the Marlins dumped Girardi, it is ever more obvious.
I have a PC and my GF has a Mac.
I’ve found the PC a lot easier to fix when it crashes but it crashes more often.
Girardi needs to call time, run on the field, and escort Cano into the dugout.
Hard to do when you don’t have a back middle-IF on the bench.
USA lost to Korea!

One option would be the Dell XPS M1330 (http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/xpsnb_m1330?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs), which looks like approximately the configuration you want (light weight, decent hard disk size and processor speed, and 4.3 lbs weight) for $899 base price.
The main things you’ll want to add to the default configuration are a better battery (the 4 cell battery it’s spec’d with by default is way too small if you care about battery life), perhaps a hard disk larger than the 160 GB it comes with by default (although 160GB isn’t small), and perhaps a better service plan if you don’t feel comfortable diagnosing issues yourself, although the service plans are expensive and will cost you more on average than repairs would have.
You’ll want to buy any software (including an anti-virus program which lasts for more than 90 days) from your school because of educational discounts.
I feel like buying a dell is the computer purchasing equivalent of leaving joba in teh pen.
annnd i’m done paying attention for today.
Time to get in the fetal position.
I agree- bench Cano. I’m not watching the game but I’ll take Don’s word that he made a dumb play again. Getting doubled off 2B last night was unacceptable.
