I guess we can take heart in Mitre’s FIP…
The Yankees’ probability of winning this game is: 55.5%
For those who think Cody Ransom is the worst thing ever, there is happy news. He’s been DFA’d according to several reports. Good luck to you Cody, wherever life takes you next.
Go Yankees.
Comments
Our long national nightmare is over.
May you better produce your MLE’s elsewhere, Mr. Ransom. I enjoyed your production in a game or two…
Sure would be nice if Mo and Hughes (26 pitches each last night) could get today off in anticipation of the most important games in the history of civilization.
Not sure I get this 13 pitcher plan. Girardi couldn’t find a spot even to use #12 for a few weeks there. Is the thinking here that Claggett is stretched out to go 3 or more in the not unlikely event of a Mitre meltdown? That particular line of thinking can’t exactly fill Sergio with good feelings about the confidence he enjoys from his manager.
Good luck to you Cody, wherever life takes you next.
I hear they have some very tall boxes on the west coast.
I’m excited to watch David Price on ESPN.
“I hear they have some very tall boxes on the west coast.”
Nope. Nobody wants a tall box near their expensive tiny house. Plus, well, earthquakes.
I was thinking the other day about how much viewer interest there must be for Yankees and Red Sox fans to watch the other team’s games. Why dont YES and NESN get some kind of deal going.
Not sure I want to watch RS games with their announcers. Surely even more so v.v.
Orsillo and Remy are not that bad. Right now its Orsillo and the guest announcer of the week. Eck is actually a lot of fun.
The radio guys are way way way worse.
I don’t want bad for Ransom, it’s just that I don’t think he should make his living in Major League Baseball. I love my mom and I don’t think she should be an utility infielder
I love my mom and I don’t think she should be an utility infielder
If your mom made MLB minimum for a couple of years you could really trick out the basement though.
I agree with WJ, sort of, when NESN actually calls the game they’re pretty good. THey just get lost on tangents and talking about themselves too much for my taste.
Singleton and Leiter without Kay = win
Did someone sneeze while typing this guy’s name into the database? Who has 2 z’s and a y in their name?
[11] If the basement was tricked out, where would I blog and stay out of the sunlight?
So far at least Retc seems to have excellent control according to gameday - almost everything just on the edge of the zone.

That would be great for a lot of New England Yankee fans, many of whom i know just pay the rate for MLB…
OTOH, most New England Red Sox fans (that I know) not living in CT would rather stick needles in their eyes than watch a Yankee game that does not involve the RS…
per Pete Abe, Yanks sign Russ Ortiz, to Scranton. Woo! Depth. Crappy, crappy depth, but depth!
Orsillo and Remy are not that bad. Right now its Orsillo and the guest announcer of the week. Eck is actually a lot of fun.

The radio guys are horrible…. actually unlistenable…
The TV guys are pretty good… not too much homer-ism… Eck is funny…
Sergio Kolfax
Gameday has Mitre’s sinker looking really nasty, anyone watching have an opinion?
stick needles in their eyes
Yeah, in a perfect world.
This is why DVR’s exist. I sometimes record the RS game, so I can check to see if they lost and then go back and watch that game.
Seriously, if I had the option to take YES ala carte, I’d have no need for MLBEI.
I’d look up Mitre’s splits but the data’s either SSS or stale.
BTW, if anybody cares, i’ll be at the Stadium with my son for tomorrow night’s game with the Sox… I’ll be in Section 422 and, if i can get my cell phone browser to work, i’ll be posting in…
Right now I’m watching the Yanks on MLB.tv and the Sox on NESN. i’m thinking of canceling mlb.tv. It just doesnt run all that well on my crappy Maine internet.
Don’t look now, but I think the umps are at the game.
Koufax, I should say. Silly typo.
I haven’t watched a single game this year. I like it. I get to pretend that baseball is really just people like SG sitting in their mom’s basement running number. No one actually plays the games! Just like it should be.

Mitre’s ball has good movement on it tonight. He’s had that in his other starts as well. He gets killed however if the ball is up in the zone. Much less movement.
Well, I jinxed that. nice.
Meat begins his patented “one run per inning” drumbeat.
That went to shit fast.
1-0 Red Sox, 2-0 Blue Jays.
This is shaping up well.
In fairness to mitre this is some shit luck.
Ground balls and bloopers… Has any ball been hit hard yet?
Mitre and astroturf don’t look like a marriage made in heaven.
I’d love to see what Ortiz’s predicted numbers would be. It would be great for a laugh, I’m sure.
Seriously, if I had the option to take YES ala carte, I’d have no need for MLBEI.
MLB, the owners, the cable companies, etc, all need to get together and work out an entirely new plan. As it stands, the blackouts/territorial rights/regional sports network system is awful.
Bah. Sore spot.
I am looking forward to seeing Claggett.
Why not Igawa?
[38] I agree, but keep in mind I’m as out-of-market as you can get and still spend dollars.
Geography just shouldn’t matter. I just want to buy a specific set of 1’s and 0’s, and they should be able to accomodate me.
Pena just hit an ungodly bomb of Penny.
Will Sergio Mitre be “offended” when this turns out to be his last start? Will Russ Ortiz be any better?
My answers: yes and no
Mark it zero?
Yankee win probability is now 34.9%.
[39] I don’t think Igawa is on the 40-man anymore.
Why not Igawa?
Because we know how that turns out. With any of the other options, the results only *might* be disastrous. So the odds are more favourable.
But you have a point. I think Igawa could contribute as a reliever. I don’t think he can get through a lineup more than once. Definately not more than twice. With all due respect, that seems to be how they’re treating Hughes.
Marc’s problem is walks. Hopefully the Yankees keep this in mind second time around.
At least the no-hitter was taken care of early.
Mitre’s improved mechanics seem to yield hits and strikeouts.
Holy shit! Veritek just hit a broken-bat wall double… i don’t think i’ve ever seen that…
[43] Off topic, but the filler soundtrack for MLBEI when they are just showing today’s channel lineup is the same as on the DVD Menus for The Grand Lebowski.
A dinger by Damon would be nice here…
Orsillo is an outstanding play-by-play guy, but Buck martine is just incredibly awful as a color man.
At one point he said “Maddon changed the outlook of the entire organization, not only the players, but the bat boys, people in the concession stands.”
[50] Or… a ribby single works too…
“In play, run(s)” is the best thing ever.
Shutout broken!
Yay productive out!
[33] Looking better.
Teixiera beat out a DP?!?
Whoa…
On that stat alone, he should get the MVP…
A-Rod halfway to the golden sombrero…
Carl Crawford with a 2-run bomb
TB 4 RS 1
Giving up 2 runs while getting 7 outs has now lowered Mitre’s season ERA.
Meat on track to go 9 complete. If Girardi is willing to have him throw 180.
For a 2-2 game, this one is remarkably boring.
Meat on track to go 9 complete. If Girardi is willing to have him throw 180.
That seems in keeping with the Meat Rules.
Who cares about win percentages- what are the odds that Swisher will pitch this game?
“Good composure on the mound” is a great backhanded compliment, but I would’ve gone with, “He never seems upset with his own suckiness.”
The Sergio Mitre Experience is a little lacking.
Time for some runs?
2 runs on some poor luck in the first, then 3 zeros - so he goes only 5 innings, what do we want from a fifth starter?
I agree with Rilke, Mitre is doing alright for what he is. He was pretty far down on the depth chart.
In the other options category (apologies if someone already mentioned this), Jason Hirsch struck out 7 and walked no one for Scranton in his first start.
Seems like we’ve seen Swisher bat everywhere in the order except leadoff.
I agree that Mitre’s been effective. I’m just not really enjoying watching him pitch. Too many balls.
“Jason Hirsch”
I’ve never heard of him. I even read RAB’s “Down on the Farm” a few times a week. How’s one supposed to be an informed fan and have a life?
Too many balls.
I hate when there are too many balls around.
“Too many balls”
Consequence of futzing with his mechanics? Or impending fatigue? He hasn’t pitched much since his TJS.
[67] I was in the middle of typing “yeah, if he gets through 5 without giving up anything else, I’ll be quite satisfied”.
Still, if he can close the out the rest of this inning, he’s done his job and it’s on the bats.
I hope they strech Aceves out to make the next start.
Hirsh (sorry I spelled his name wrong) just came over from the Rockies for PTBNL. He used to be a top prospect there, I think he got hurt, it was a decent move with good upside for the Yanks. His numbers were lousy but reportedly his stuff is back to being pretty good and he’s one of those guys who might benefit from a change of scenery.
Consequence of futzing with his mechanics? Or impending fatigue? He hasn’t pitched much since his TJS.
I think command/control is the last thing to return after TJS. Looks like he’s right around his career rate for strike percentage this year though, so maybe he’s just not that good at throwing strikes.
And that’s that. I gotta learn to type faster if I’m gonna stay timely.
Aceves is still alive?
Bob Lemon used to call everyone on the’78 Yankees, Meat, with some notable exceptions, Jackson, Munson, Guidry and Gossage.
HTF do call Mickey Rivers, Meat?
You call. Modamnit.
Alfredo going for his 7th win of the year
Nice hook Ace. He’s back lads.
This twitter thing is really catching on, apparently. MLB gameday has twitter in box scores.
Man, it’d be nice to see Aceves just take the start and go, whatever, three innings, four, whatever he can manage to give the team - I bet they’d be GOOD innings.
In the alternative, though, Hirsch wouldn’t be a bad fifth starter, either (and yeah, Mitre tonight wasn’t awful either).
Maybe sometimes a “tired” shoulder is in fact just tired.
That would have sucked.
Was pitch 3 to Damon really at his head?
@88: I wouldn’t swear it was intentional, but it was right at him.
88- Yes. he ducked away at the last possible moment. Scared the Katt and wife.
I was cool. So was JD.
It’s too bad that Wells is probably going to be known more for his huge contract than his impressive fielding skills.
Too many strikeouts and too few walks for the Yankees. Apparently, they did not learn about Marc’s control issues.
Three straight innings of ‘three up - three down”...
If you’re keeping score at home…
VMart just went yard…
Sox cut lead to 4-2…
Molina is quick for his body type.
94- Another extra inning contest is fine with me.
Have a blast tomorrow RI. You and the weeun.
So the Meat Tray was obviously not bad today, yes?
Oh YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nick!
Sweet!!!!
