Aside from his ability to play OF, is Hairston actually an upgrade over Ransom?

Probably, but I think calling up AJack and Pena would have made more sense, and saved Weems for another deal down the road.

At least according to Girardi, who was on WFAN, Hairston won’t take Ransom’s role. He also said that Hughes won’t be moved to the rotation, but he qualified it with the words “at this time.”

Who’s playing right?

Damon’s not so bad in left that he needs Hinske there to help.

If it were softball, Hinske would play right, Swisher left, and Damon would be short center.

M. Cabrera, CF (.333/.397/.554)

???

Melky’s a legit MVP candidate.

We landed Miguel? Sweet! I do question playing him in center, though.

Carrasco pitching? This is going to be one of those frustrating, pull your hair out losses.

It’s still pretty hilarious that the media was reporting that it was A-Jax for Hairston at one point!

The return on Victor Martinez was annoying because it didn’t have Buchholz, but otherwise, that was a solid return.

I agree with the notion that the Red Sox were basically Cleveland’s only real trading partner.

Also, just checking, so does the trade deadline mean that the Yankees will now face Peavey and Halladay in the next few days when they could have avoided both if things worked out differently?

Not moving Halladay is indefensible. The offers being made were apparently just ridiculous.

Peavy won’t come off the DL for a month, actually.

The White Sox are going with the two shortstop formation, huh?

Frog- Speaking of softball, when are we going to smack those Lower Hudson tools about? I’ve saved 2 vacation days, one to play the game and one to recover.

Anyone know what a “koozie” is ? They’re giving ‘em away at an upcoming game…

I’ve heard they involve a water-based lubricant.

Its a foam thing you place your soda or beer can inside to keep it cool.

Huh. They have a word for that ? I guess they’d have to. Thx.

Runs please.  And lots of’em.

Well… it worked out.
That’s good.

I’d be satisfied with 2 runs per inning, every inning.

This is a starter that the Yankees should be able to hit hard.

Bunt? Single through the hole? Is this SMALL BALL I’m witnessing?

Jeter didn’t bunt.

an infield single counts for something though (it wasn’t an error, right?)

Teixeira has this hitting thing down.

Mark Teixeira is pretty good at this baseball thing.

Hawk calls that a “good AB” I think we have different definition of a good AB

Z is for Matsui!

Ozzie’s defensive stylings didn’t really work in the past two ABs.

This is a relatively promising start. I would like to see it continue, though.

No error although Carrasco’s end of the play seemed odd.  He really slowed up on his way to first and Jeter just beat it out.

So, Ortiz using up as much of those eyedrops as he can, apparently.

I liked the first two AB’s of this half-inning a lot more than the last three.

Mitre has the head of a battle, the body of a battle and the loss of a battle.

Dude behind home plate on the 3b side wearing a wife beater, red bandana, and… weightlifting gloves ?

Apparently it’s halloween in Illinois. All he’s missing is the spiked dog collar.

Mitre is not doing the Yankee bullpen any favors.

Mitre is beginning to pitch very much like Snacks.

That was sort of bizzaro-Snacks, though.  Wouldn’t Pontoon put about 2 runners on in an inning before getting the first out, then somehow wriggle out of it to only allow 1-2 runs?

[39] yeah, but it amounts to the same thing.

Thurm, are you gonna play catcher?

Yeah, walk Nix, Sergio.  That will make things easier.

Holy Veras, Mitre sucks! I think you guys are right, Pontoon has taken over the body of Mitre.

No Yankee season is complete unless Sir Snacks Pontoon throws down a few innings for the New York Yankees, either in person or in spirit.

Wow.  I’m not sure what the question is, but Sergio Mitre is definitely not the answer.

Sir Snackie knows voodoo!

It’s becoming increasingly apparent that the Yankees can no longer afford the luxury of having Hughes or Aceves in the pen.

I don’t think Mitre will be flying back to New York with this team.

The only positive, The Red Sox are throwing Smoltz.

We were waiting for Mitre to face an actual major league lineup.  This is what happens.

How much longer does Mitre stay in?

Although, the White Sox lineup isn’t even that impressive.

Robertson up, which may mean that Aceves isn’t fully healthy.

[44] I believe the correct answer is “Philip J. Hughes”

The under/over on this game must have been really high.

[54] wrong, the question is “Who is Philip J. Hughes?”

Did Kay just suggest that the reason Meat is sucking so….suckiferously…is that he no longer has the threat of being traded hanging over him ?

Wow, 2 innings pitched. I am impressed.

Well, it seems like their sucky guy is going to put up some zeroes, and our sucky guy isn’t. Yankees are not going to be outsucked today, it appears.

Heh, usher just took the bat away from the fan, presumably for “safety” reasons.

Another tease.

Heh, usher just took the bat away from the fan, presumably for “safety” reasons.

The Sox broadcast showed the usher brought her a different, signed (?) bat during the break.

Mitre is very terrible.  It’s quite apparent now, if it wasn’t before.

Get him off the mound (and off the 40 man), NOW!

Hey Mitre, the world needs ditch diggers too.

Apparently, that HR by Quentin left the spaces of gameday. I don’t know if it left the stadium.

This had better be his last start. What a wretched, shitty weekend this is shaping up to be.

Hughes, Hughes, Hughes, Hughes…

Twice now, on a full count, the White Sox announcer has said “Ball four or base hit” as Mitre released the ball. Perhaps it is superfluous to say I hate this guy.

I don’t mind the foul balls. They are hastening his exit.

Uh oh, Sergio.

41- I would prefer pitching, I have decent control but the needs of the team…..
I would really want to win such a game.
Re- the game tonight, this is bad.

Runs…

Cashman seems to like Mitre; just sayin’.

OT: Just say NO to the vaccine.

Hinske needs to play more (I don’t know where)!

Holy Hinske!

The Hinskanater!!!!

Lets place a major league pitcher on the mound and perhaps win this effen game.

Hinske with the 1.100 SLG%.

Don, what vaccine dost thou speak of? Confusion amongst us New England puritans.

Is Hinske capable of hitting the ball within the park? I don’t think I’ve seen it yet.

Mitre should get 75 punches in the gut.  From Cecil Fielder (who should be back on the team in some sort of “coaching” role).  For each one of his pitches.

Looking bad in the Babe’s hometown. 6-5 sawx in the top of the 9th.
O’s coming up now.

Has anyone seen M. Night Shayamalan’s The Village and should I watch the rest of it?

Is Hinske capable of hitting the ball within the park? I don’t think I’ve seen it yet.

Only for outs.

at least we’ll get to see more melancon

The gameday graphic is really weird for all players except Willy Tavares.  But the stick figure for Thome seems particularly inappropriate.

More runs…

84. I thought it was Scranton at best. I loved the Sixth Sense and Unbreakable.
Lady in the Water really Farnsed. Cue the Wombat.

Has anyone seen M. Night Shayamalan’s The Village and should I watch the rest of it?

The movie is fairly awful.  But, most of his films are pretty terrible.
As always, there is a twist.  But the whole thing is stupid.

Thurm, the flu vaccine.

Posado tried his best, but sometimes it doesn’t work trying to hit a DP.

[89] yeah I enjoyed those two. And then uncontrollable nosedive.

So tell me the twist so I can turn the drivel off.  Are they really all dead or something?

Don’t even joke about watching The Village. It just isn’t worth it.

SPOILERS: It’s the modern day. They’re in a park. They all moved there to escape the troubles of the modern world. They didn’t their kids, including the blind chick. There are no monsters.

So tell me the twist so I can turn the drivel off.  Are they really all dead or something?

Basically, it’s all summed up right here.

They didn’t their kids

?

I just . . . I turn things on and get hooked wanting to know what’s going to happen.  So, like, the town elders dress up as these weird creatures when they’re ot pretending to speak like they’re in the Deerslayer?  Just freakin’ tell me.

I think Signs is underrated.

Bosox win.

Way back in the 20th century, Bill James wrote the first essential book about baseball managers. Chris Jaffe has just written the second.

From now on, whenever I have a question about a manager, Jaffe's book will be the first and last one I reach for.

John Brattain Memorial Fund

The Hardball Times has set up a memorial fund for John Brattain's family. He left behind a wife and two teenage daughters.

Four years ago, I found from personal experience how generous the online community can be to its own in their hour of need. I am now literally begging you to be even more generous than you were to me.
