Yankees 5, Angels 2: Yankees Win The Pennant

It would have been a big disappointment after the regular season they had to not make it to the World Series, but we don’t have to worry about that now, do we?

Phillies in 3?

Selig will just call it after the first 2.

This gives me happiness.

Oddly, villainx doesn’t feel much better.

Hey, Pettitte gets a record too!

I am so happy for this win.

I squealed.  A lot.

Andy. Pettitte.

I anxiously await the arrival of the people who wanted Sabathia to pitch instead of Pettitte to show up and brag about how right they were.

The New Jersey Turnpike Series?

Is this complaint thread up yet?

Schteeve, I can smell the sea salt.

The New Jersey Turnpike Series?

The “New Jersey Transit to Trenton, then switch to SEPTA on the platform” series.

So if/when the Yankees win the WS, does Girardi change his number to 28?

Congrats to CC.

Who the hell are all you people and why is it that you are suddenly my best friends?

Mrs otf hit me. Thats OK.
I’d like to to take this glorious moment to tell each and every one of yiz.
Go veras yourselves.
I’m full of it.
Happy freakin times.

Enjoy tonight all.

Was CC MVP? Did they announce it?

I am so glad A-Rod got out of that interview without saying anything stupid.

TASTE THE HAPPY, MICHAEL! TASTE IT!!

[16] Yes.

Yeah, it’s CC. Alex can get WS.

Dude, are all of those Jorge and Mariano’s kids?

As long as the Yankees win 4 more games this calendar year, I don’t care if they decide to name Kevin Youklis the 2009 WS MVP.

And now Jorge yelling at teammates in Spanish who were pouring champagne on him while Kenny Albert was trying to interview him.

Interviewer: “What was your thought when you got the call to come in in the 8th?”
Mo: “Get six outs.”

[21] They should probably just sign Mariano’s oldest this offseason.

Taste the sad, Scosh! Taste it!

I want to thank the RS for giving the Yankees the opportunity to finally beat the Angels.

I’d like to see Kate Hudson feasting on the rally monkey. (Matsui gets its brains.)

So… The Big Budget Yanks, play the small market Phils, team hasn’t won in nearly a year.
Can NESPN just ignore this series please.
Yanks crushed in 2.

Finally it’s about time.

[26] Wait, I thought the winner of this series advances to face the Sox… ??

These low numbers are making my head spin.

I am so glad A-Rod got out of that interview without saying anything stupid.

I disagree.

ESPN’s headline: “Return Of The Empire”

Here’s some chestnuts from the AP recap posted there:

“The sport’s top spenders finally cashed in with their first pennant in six years Sunday night”

“Ridiculed in the past for his October flops, Rodriguez played a huge role in helping his team advance through the playoffs, batting .438 with five home runs and 12 RBIs. The slugger earned his first trip to the World Series during a 16-year career in which he’s accomplished almost everything else.”

‘Not a bad way for Derek Jeter and crew to finish up the first season at the team’s new $1.5 billion ballpark”

Congratulations, New York Yankees!

YES!!!!!!!!!!!

great season, SG.  they couldn’t have done it without you.

[30] The Sox have already been awarded the 2009 World Championship.  Yanks/Phils is just a consolation match to determine the runner-up.

[32] Revel in it. Bask in it. Wrap it around you and savor the aroma. This is what heaven smells like. It smells like…burnt sox martyr.

Need I remind all and sundry: The Phillies loom.

Don, kindly STFU

im out guys. Have a great night!!

No Angels in the outfield after tonight.

Anyone else terrified of Girardi’s pen management this week?

He was sooo good at it all year, but his Joba infatuation and lack of trust in anyone frightens me.

also, [12], I am absolutely hoping to see #28 on Joe’s back next year.  That is, if he doesn’t get fired for yanking Aceves’s, Robertson’s, & Hughes’s credentials before game 1.

Okay, CC III is adorable.

My god those poor bastards at Halos Heaven.  They are just so damned bitter.  It’s the strikezone, it’s the umpires, it’s anything and everything but awful defensive execution by the Angels, and great pitching by the Yankees.  Nope, couldn’t be.

1. I love all of you.

2. RLYW road trip to some Philly bar for next weekend’s games?

Should Joba be drinking?

32-Dave-o. Now I can sleep.
35- You too Nutjob. Why is my katt not home yet? He’s not still .... driving is he? It’s your VCP.

Ocean County headlines:

HA-NO!!!

Kazmir gives game to underacheiving Yanks!!

Umpires, CC, win ALCS MVP!!

Kendrick, “Yankee Killer”, still hitting well, despite series loss!!

[43] re: point two - might I suggest Paddy’s Pub.

“Including their unprecedented collapse against Boston in 2004, the Yankees had lost five straight times with a chance to close out an ALCS—and six in a row with an opportunity to end a playoff series.”

Except, you know, when they just closed out a playoff series in their first try. In the ALDS. A couple weeks ago. You know, against the Twins? Swept em? Nice try, though, AP.

[39] Yeah, “Angels Stranded In the On Deck Circle Watching the Victory Dogpile” is more like it.

When do you head west, young man ?

Listening to Mo is like hearing the words of a sage philosopher.

Right now, Mark Grace is downright flabbergasted that Pettitte pitched well in a Game Six after not having done so all of two times prior.

[49] I should be arriving Nov. 1st.

[35] I do, and I am.  The hate is a warming, warming glow.  CC on Wednesday, friends.  There is work yet to be done.

I think I’m gonna watch about six hours of postgame tonight.

[51] Right now Mark Grace is patting himself on the back for picking the Yankees in 6, even though he changed that tonight and guaranteed they would lose.

[45] Last I seen him, he was stumbling down the stairs, lit up on catnip and Woodford Reserve (he can really put it away, lemme tellya). Mumbled something about “having to see a man about a dog”.

[52] You need a favor, drop me a line. Do it anyway, we’ll grab a beer.

Yfin- join in and congrats to you my loyal Yankees fan. You’ve earned this too.

[57] Will do. And hopefully that will be a beer to celebrate winning the race to eleven.

was this place even up in any form the last time the yanks won the pennant?

steve phillips fired apparently

You would never have known Mo had just clinched a Pennant after striking out Matthews there.  Small, barely noticeable fistpump.
The guy is so awesome.

[56] Great- He’s supposed to take to my angelsostomy tomorrow. Whatevs. I’ll deal.
Little bastard does the coast to coast thing like Magic, don’t he.

[61] I hope Jon Anderson gets involved in a sex scandal next!

/Boli-Boli-Boli’d

[60] Why whaddya mean by that exactly?

[60] not sure, i think i came around in 2004.

A-ha! It was Chandon. Simmons, a while ago, said they should start getting progressively better Champagne every round, and it looks like the Yanks are finally doing that. It was Cook’s after the ALDS, Chandon now. Four games til the Dom Cuvee.

take me to my. Katt types better n me.

Wow, dudes on MLB Network are totally ripping on Yankee fans right now.  Kind of douche like.

“Get six outs” is now my default answer any time someone asks what I was/am thinking.

[67] I don’t know any of those brands, but I just finished shaking up and pouring PBR all over myself.

Damon looked sauced in that interview, slurring a lot of words.

On the radio, interview with Swisher.

“Have you given any thought to the Phillies?”

“I’m giving a little thought to this champagne.”

[70]

I’m gonna somehow get that line into a work email tomorrow.

[69] Wow, dudes on MLB Network are totally ripping on Yankee fans right now.  Kind of douche like.

Klapisch disagrees:

Loud but extremely well-behaved crowd all night. Just 12 cops guarding the field right now, no horses.

[71] Whatever gets ya through the night, alright.

[69] See [35]

[61] Don’t toy with me. Don’t you dare tease me. Link please (oh, please, oh, please, oh, please).

[70] Me too!

[72] Damon has been hit by too many foul tips.

RLYW has been up in some form or another since 2003, I believe.  SG would know better.

Somewhere, a tear rolls down Joe Torre’s cheek.

was this place even up in any form the last time the yanks won the pennant?

Yeah, looks like Larry started it in April 2003 on Blogger, then got a few of us to help out starting in August of 2004.  Then everyone abandoned ship pretty much, but at least we picked up Jonathan along the way….

72 That was me, in my Damon outfit. If you paid attention you would have noticed the 170 foot throw I made. Not JD.

Klapisch disagrees:

Loud but extremely well-behaved crowd all night. Just 12 cops guarding the field right now, no horses.

They were talking about Yankee fans in general, not at this game specifically.  Something about being “ham & eggers” or something.

espNESN ignoring the game. All NFL highlights right now. Makes sense, I mean week 7 of the NFL is clearly more important that someone advancing to the World Series.

[67] I am a Louis Roederer fan myself.  I’d rather spend $40-50 on Brut Premier than pay Dom prices.  (nose turned up)

I’ve changed states twice since the Yankees last won the pennant.

[85] I’ve only ever drank Dom when I’ve been able to get it for free. So I’ve only had about three glasses in my life. Loved it at the time, but free booze always tastes the sweetest.

Pettitte 6 1/3 1 ER. Suck it, Mark Grace.

I love Vill. I’ll never tell him to his face but I am very fond of that lad.
Goodnight bob fellers. WS time. YaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

I’ve changed states twice since the Yankees last won the pennant.

Same here.  Damn outstanding warrants.

A World Series featuring the Yankees, guys - very excited and anxious.  Good times.

I’ve changed states twice since the Yankees last won the pennant.

I met, dated, became engaged to, and married my wife since the Yankees last won a pennant. And it wasn’t like I met her just after the 2003 World Series or just got married last month, either.

Hal: “We’re going to give the Phillies hell.”

Love it.

[86] I’ve moved 8 times, lived in three different states and a foreign country, gotten married, and had a kid since the Yankees last won the pennant.

Hal, shut up.

Kruk shockingly picks the Phillies. Bobby V picks the Yankees in six.

Kruk picks the Phillies to win game one based on what they did to CC in the playoffs last year.

And back to ignoring the game, time for NASCAR highlights.

[95] They’re still lookin for ya. wink

Whenever John Kruk predicts something to happen that I don’t want to happen, that makes me feel better about the likely outcome.

[86]  I am waiting for someone to say something like four states, two kids, one wife, two divorces, one sex change, and two countries.

Way back in the 20th century, Bill James wrote the first essential book about baseball managers. Chris Jaffe has just written the second.
- Rob Neyer, ESPN.com

From now on, whenever I have a question about a manager, Jaffe's book will be the first and last one I reach for.

John Brattain Memorial Fund

The Hardball Times has set up a memorial fund for John Brattain's family. He left behind a wife and two teenage daughters.

Four years ago, I found from personal experience how generous the online community can be to its own in their hour of need. I am now literally begging you to be even more generous than you were to me.
