So WOE is back?
I would put Hughes in the rotation over Pettitte or Wang now.
I agree. I think the Yanks need to look at what Pettitte can give them vs. Hughes if they are really committed to Wang, because I don’t see Pettitte being particularly effective later in the year. Would they ever switch him and Hughes?
I doubt it.
I guess they could just tell him to stand 5 feet off the plate and not swing no matter what.
Apparently this is the only way one can have success with Livan Hernandez.
The problem with Pettitte is that he seems able to will himself to mostly decentish starts, but I can’t imagine him being at all successful as a reliever.
If they start Pettitte in the playoffs on the road, I won’t go crazy about that. If they start Wang at all in the playoffs, that would be a horrible idea, even vintage Wang was a disaster in the playoffs (admittedly small sample size on that).
Seriously this was a pathetic performance by the Yankees offense. 116 pitches, 60 balls. Embarrassing.
Strikes, Phil!
Pettitte has made sporadic relief appearances while otherwise starting. He seems like the perfect playoff longman, but I doubt the Yankees will agree.
Not good, Phil
You can’t be doing that.
This Hughes kid has some talent.
Is it just me or do umpires love to squeeze Hughes?
Phil is looking at Livan’s success and trying to emulate.
Out.
Yeesh. Very fortunate there.
I love a bad bunt.
And that’s why you never give away outs!
-J Walter Weatherman
[212] It’s the only fair thing to do. Otherwise Hughes would be unstopppable.
Did the Mets just use up a pinch hitter to sac bunt? Or rather, to fail at a sac bunt?
[219] Yep. In fact, they used a guy with a .334 OPS to PH. I think that’s why the NL is AAAA.
219- Aye. Funny squad they have.
WTG, Phil
Nice, Phillip !
Phil deals Badness!
95 MPH down the middle of the plate with 2 strikes and Cora just watches it.
Hughes makes me happy.
Damon goes yard.
Ya heard me.
Wow. The Mets suck. How can you take that pitch?
we need Hughes in the rotation ASAP…..Rays are gonna have Kazmir and Price behind Shields and Garza, we know what the Sox have—94 wins and third won’t cut it….
227- I’m all ears. Please
Looks like Bruney will pitch teh ate.
Oscar- ruin my night later. Not now lad.
[229] I agree. His stuff is just much, much better than Wang’s at this point in their respective careers.
I think I’d let Hughes hit. There’s nobody I’d rather see pitch the eighth.
Bloop and a blast would be nice here.
I don’t know if the Yanks NEED Hughes in the rotation, but I’d feel a lot better with him there.
232—Well, I can go short-term pessimism too: why won’t they let Hughes pitch the 8th tonight?
[234] I agree, but I would REALLY worry about a potential injury. Not to mention, Bruney is awesome.
Hughes could have done that.
Stupid NL. I sat a bar the other night and listened to this idiot go on about how the NL is better because pitchers can’t just throw at other guys without putting themselves at risk.
237-I’m actually enjoying this game. Its Torre’s fault.
I agree, but I would REALLY worry about a potential injury.
After the Jeter walk, I tell him to bunt and jog.
Make’em pay A-Rod. Make’em pay.
I am always on board with teams wanting to put an extra runner on base to face the guy who could likely end up with 800 career HR.
I used to love satting bars listening to fools. I’m over it now.
Come on A-Rod. Let’s see a little chip on your shoulder.
I used to love satting bars listening to fools. I’m over it now.
Now you just read crap from fools like us.
I used to love satting bars listening to fools. I’m over it now.
Now you just do it on the internet.
Oh sweet, I love that they brought Sean Green in for this. Great job Jerry.
247,248. I’m the fool now and I’m good with it.
Surprise me, Robinson.
Redemption time for Robbie “The Out Machine” Cano.
Time to redeem thyself, Robinson.
Cano will not redeem himself here.
Okay, Robbie. Now’s the time to shine.
Clutchman. Love this guy.
I’m the fool now and I’m good with it.
Folly which knows itself to be folly is not pure folly.
Cano will absolutely not hit into a DP here. Book it.
I’m thrilled that Cano is batting 5th.
This should explain why I don’t think Cano should hit 5th.
What a wretched, wretched game. It does not get any worse than what he’s done tonight.
Will this be the end of Cano hitting fifth? It really ought to be.
Cano will not redeem himself here.
I like the effort, but I don’t think Cano heard.
He smote that one pretty solid. Nice pick by Castillo.
Meanwhile, Cano is responsible for a quarter of the Yankees’ outs today.
Douchnozzle suckbag shitbird.
I think Robby is trying to hit infield practice for the Mets.
This is one of those few moments when I’m actually unhappy with someone taking a walk.
It does not get any worse than what he’s done tonight.
Sure it does. I present to you Mr. Daniel Murphy.
High leverage sitch here.
That’s because Robbie is still batting 5th for no real reason (he’s not even splitting the lefties up!!!).
If Girardi doesn’t change the lineup, I promise that a remote will die.
I don’t mind Bruney. He seems like kind of a dope, but he’s tough to hit. But I really wish this were Philip Hughes.
That’s likely my biggest gripe with Girardi - the insistence on batting Cano 5th.
You guys are nuts—or, at least being really unfair. That ball was smoked. He has hit 3 one hoppers today. It’s just bad luck.
This is why I do not love Brian Bruney. Throw Goddamn strikes.
God forbid Rivera should pitch this inning.
[269] Is there a leverage rating chart available somewhere on the internets?
He smote that one pretty solid. Nice pick by Castillo.
He’s actually hit three of his ground balls hard tonight. Still, he needs to not be protecting A-rod right now, they basically just walked two guys in a row to get to him.
That’s not a good start, Brian.
This is one of those games when the closer should pitch the 8th and the setup reliever the 9th.
No no no no!
Niced job, Veras.
You all laughed, LAUGHED, when I complained about it. Oh silly sleepyirv, it doesn’t matter. But I have had the last laugh…. HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
This will be the last laugh, right Girardi?
Joe Morgan explaining a BABIP chart?? Now I’ve seen everything.
You guys are nuts—or, at least being really unfair. That ball was smoked. He has hit 3 one hoppers today. It’s just bad luck.
I agree on that one. The previous DP, I was annoyed because I wanted him to take a strike and/or try to swing at a pitch he could hit in the air. But Cano really didn’t do anything wrong in the eighth.
Sheffield got beat on that fastball.
After arod walked, I came online to read through the chatter. Right before Cano grounded out, I started to read all your comments about him grounding out. I actually had to check my tv to see if i was delayed b/c of the DVR. Of course, it turned out I was at the part of the chatter where he was grounding out LAST time.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
It’s Fernando Tatis, you dopey looking dumbass. Throw him strikes.
Throw strikes you farns.
Miller, Bruney doesn’t need to be distracted by the baserunner to walk Tatis. Bruney’s control sucks.
Bring in Al.
Great. Just great.
I don’t want Aceves pitching in this spot.
Way to do the worst thing possible.
That is disgraceful.
If they are going to warm up Aceves anyway, they should have started the inning with him.
I like dumbass looking dope. We are both correct.
It is insane that that’s their #6 hitter.
Mo time.
I have never understood the big friggin difference between a 4 out save and a 5 out save when there is an offday tomorrow. Luckily Martinez sucks
