We play today, we win.

Girardi’s insistence in batting Melky lead off is really starting to piss me off.  What exactly is a Northewstern grad doing something so patently stupid?  I’d rather see Giambi lead off.

I’d rather see Melky on the bench…....

I’d rather see Christian lead off than Melky.

However, Giambi batting leadoff would be awesome.

nice wheels Bobby boy!

I’m with you Don, Melkys act is getting old. Bring on the days of Gardner

WOW that was a HELL of a take out slide by Arod he is the soul reason we got 2 runs that inning. I LOVE it Arod! hell of a play by Wilson to end it but who cares.

Just take 3 strikes and sit down joba. No use getting hurt here.

Joba knows how to work the count!

You know he didnt look foolish up there, he worked the count pretty damn well. I’m not buying his talk about being a good hitter.

gah pitcher running the bases

Well, at least the Yanks cleared the Melky spot in the order.

Can we DH for Melky instead?

Id like to see Joba in Center on days he isnt pitching and batting leadoff.

Actually, Mariano would probably be the team’s best CF.  Whether he can hit or not, I don’t know.

Anyone see that the Mets picked up Andy Phillips?

What I learned this series: Yank pitchers have tremendous plate discipline.

Can Joba play 1b?

What I’ve learned watching Joba pitch: BLOOP SINGLES

Add another run against Abreu’s zone rating…

I’m not the only one who thought that was catchable, am I?

Your right Mariano has center on lock Jobas place is at short.

Yeah, Joba gives up a lot of bloop singles.

I’m not the only one who thought that was catchable, am I?

You’re not.  Judging from the way he moves out there, Abreu must think his spot in RF is walled in.

Jobas place is at short.

Nah, he’ll be at catcher.  Remember how he blocked the plate last time out?  Masterful.

Don’t walk Jack Wilson, Joba.

Abreu made up for it.

Joba meant for that to happen.

Hahaha was that a joke? is that 3rd base coach on crack?

ZR aside, Bobby’s arm has looked great the two games in Pittsburgh.

Wow.  Did Meachem go out there one batter too early?

Abreu did something good!

Not the conventional way to get an out, but we’ll take it smile

Bobby giveth and Bobby taketh away.

Also, I bet we won’t see many bloops fall in left field with Christian out there.

Last but hardly least, is the McDonalds commercial touting their chicken sandwhich (“this is a country of people, who took it upon themselves, to invent a simple yet perfect chicken sandwhich”) being ironic?  It has to be, no?

35- Hilarious.

Last but hardly least, is the McDonalds commercial touting their chicken sandwhich (“this is a country of people, who took it upon themselves, to invent a simple yet perfect chicken sandwhich”) being ironic?  It has to be, no?

And I think it’s a breakfast sandwich.  Never too early to get your cholesterol jacked up.

Wilson taketh away and Wilson giveth.

they gave jeter a single on that?

Wait, so now Jeter won’t be able to GIDP.  Does not compute.

Also, would it kill Randy Johnson to get against the Sox?

The Pittsburgh scorers are quite generous.  I believe they don’t like to give errors to local players.

I think Sterling liked the ground out there more than a homer.

Wait, so now Jeter won’t be able to GIDP.  Does not compute.

Kinda hard when you lead off.
But there’s plenty of game left for him to do so.

Manny is going to crush RJ.

A-Rod is all screwed up.  He looked awful at the plate yesterday.  I sure hope this mini-slump doesn’t last.

why didn’t Girardi walk the 8th guy who is a .290 hitter to get to the pitcher and how close was Jeter’s ball to a homer?

Im still convinced, A-rod doesn’t drive runners in when someone’s on third with less than 2 outs. It’s not his style.

They ruled it a single and then an error that allowed him to go to 2nd.

I think Sterling liked the ground out there more than a homer.

Funny how such a “tremendous play” can look like complete crap one out later.

Pirates announcers are great.

“I don’t think booing A-Rod is justified. It stinks.”

Dammit Arod. (Sterling and Waldman each die a little bit as another runner is stranded with less than 2 outs)

Never too early to get your cholesterol jacked up.

You know cholesterol intake doesn’t have as much as an effect as you may be lead to believe, the problem is that most of the time you are intaking cholesterol you are also intaking all sorts of sat fats which rev up endogenous cholesterol production. Either way, eat fiber. cardboard works well. Trust me my family has a history of high cholesterol and mine is probably <=100.

*I may be lying about the cardboard. I’m actually almost vegan.

Yay Giambi!

The STASH picks us up!

Behold.  The power of ‘Stache.

The ‘stache is invincible!

I’m actually almost vegan.

I’m so sorry.

By the way, our old buddy Tyler Clippard is facing SWB this evening.  Brett Gardner has already walked and scored a run.

I agree with the pirates announcers, that was weird seeing no one cover 3rd. Jeter could have gone even further down the line than he already was.

I just got a craving for steak.

I miss the idea of meat, especially beef. But not physically. It’s really not that big a deal for me. Besides before I made the switch I basically ate oatmeal and rice and beans every day anyways.

How long is too long to be sitting at Dunkin Donuts listening to the game on my laptop?

Is there any time, besides when you’re actually eating steak, when it’s not appropriate to crave steak?

Giambi first to third?  gulp

Is there any time, besides when you’re actually eating steak, when it’s not appropriate to crave steak?

No.

Sterling just said, “When the big G gets going you can’t stop that train, it’s got no brakes.”

Mmmmmmm…steak.

When you’re at a vegan convention? Or is that the most appropriate time of all?

“You don’t want to let this horse get too far out of the barn”

Seriously? People actually say that?

Whoa, Cano’s OPS is >.600!

Sterling just said, “When the big G gets going you can’t stop that train, it’s got no brakes.”

isn’t that a quote from Giambi?

Sterling just said, “When the big G gets going you can’t stop that train, it’s got no brakes.”

That’s probably the best thing he’s said on the air in 5 years.

I’m actually not a big fan of steak.  I like meat and all, but the thought of eating a big slab of meat, by itself, doesn’t really appeal to me.

——“Whoa, Cano’s OPS is >.600! “

He’s above the Bubba barrier!

yeah, even I can’t understand that.

I’m an oatmeal and rice and beans guy too, Clay - although I consume far more beans than rice.  I also eat seafood but almost never touch any other meat.  The way beef is raised in the United States (excluding the grass fed variety) is rather disgusting.  Also, a chicken just seems quite ridiculous.  I mean, what is a chicken exactly and why would anyone want to eat one?

OK, why is Joba trying to walk the pitcher??

I make an exception for fish every once in a while to grab some omega-3s. It’s not that I don’t like meat, I just decided, for health and athletic performance reasons to stop. first couple of weeks were pretty difficult. The hardest part was giving up cheese.

and speaking of athletic performance I have to go lift. sucks having to miss a Joba day.

The strike zone appears quite generous.

Clay, I’m skipping my lift to watch Joba. Join me.

Unit has thrown 60 pitches. 2.2 IP, 1 R. Just K’d Manny. 1-0 BOS.

The way beef is raised in the United States (excluding the grass fed variety) is rather disgusting.

Just shop at Whole Foods. If you really want to see how the beef they get is treated, you can usually drive to the farm they got it from and talk to the farmer.

1. The strike zone does appear very generous. Especially East to West.

2. Either the YES gun is shot or Joba is throwing a lot of really hard changeups.

Giambino with the mad hops.

Only 2 K’s? What a bum.

I’m skipping my lift too! But that’s mostly because I couldn’t resist Chipotle and the CWS final is on. It’s convenient that I can watch the yanks on mlb.tv too

Randy Johnson is fucking terrible and I hope bad things happen to him.

My first ever game at Yankee Stadium was Joba’s start against the Padres on Thursday.  AFAIC, it couldn’t have possibly gone better.

If Christian does that again, Sterling will love him forever.

90. Ive been wondering, there have been a lot of odd reads from that gun tonight.

Randy Johnson is fucking terrible and I hope bad things happen to him.

Not until after he beats the Sox.  And anyway it’s bad karma to wish ill on others.

Ok, so why not let Christian try to steal 2nd and then let Joba bunt?

What’s the deal with all this lifting? Are you guys movers?

Way back in the 20th century, Bill James wrote the first essential book about baseball managers. Chris Jaffe has just written the second.

From now on, whenever I have a question about a manager, Jaffe's book will be the first and last one I reach for.

John Brattain Memorial Fund

The Hardball Times has set up a memorial fund for John Brattain's family. He left behind a wife and two teenage daughters.

Four years ago, I found from personal experience how generous the online community can be to its own in their hour of need. I am now literally begging you to be even more generous than you were to me.
