Keep that bat on your shoulder Wang.

This is the most important game ever, because I am going to be in attendance.  Go Yankees.

Did someone decide that the Yankees and RS should have the same interleague opponents?

divisions play against divisions (plus “natural rivals”), I think.

SG gets out of his mother’s basement, albeit for a day.

Hooray!

SG, how will you be able to make sense of the game while actually watching it?  Stats don’t play the game; players play the game.  By the way, that big fiery ball up there is the sun; try not to look at it directly.

Oh, and have a great time.

I like this line-up.  Damon for Melky and I’d be totally set.
Maybe flip Posada (hopefully, Posado) and Cano.
But a nice looking line-up.

By the way, what’s a “shoulder Wang” and where can I get one?

“Is that the one you mean, Frog?  It doesn’t LOOK that big… owwwww.
Damn it.”

I’d flip Cano and Posada, but I’d be positively thrilled to be proven wrong.

Let me clarify that.  I hope they both perform well, but if Cano happens to do better than Posada and proves to be better in that slot, I’d be happy to be wrong.

So long as SG is leading the Troglodyte parade out of the depths of ma’s cellar, I might have to watch tonights game at my local watering hole.  Put the old reverse eyeball jinx on the Wanger and see if I can’t juice his balls with a little mojo.

see if I can’t juice his balls with a little mojo

That didn’t all come through, oddly enough… oh, forget it.

Apparently < vomit >  < /vomit >

is actually valid html code for ... something we can’t see.

...I know.  It was pretty bad.  But with Wang on the mound, you might as well go for the gold.  Right?  Right?

I’ve been ridiculously busy with work, so I’ve missed the last week or so, but have seen enough of the box scores to know that it hasn’t been good.  Tomko seems particularly smelly.  Any word on roster moves involving him?

Flipping Cano and Posada when Po’s not hitting a lick accomplishes what?  Let’s hope CMW and Arod return to their better days and then it won’t matter who’s hitting where.

Let’s hope Wang can take care of Atlanta (team OPS+ of 90).  After the first four hitters, it’s basically a black hole.

What’s the fine for walking Francoeur?

PeteAbe:

UPDATE, 5:28 p.m.: Girardi indicated that Cody Ransom would be here tomorrow. They have to decide whether Pena or Berroa goes.

Doesn’t it have to be Berroa or Tomko?  Ransom was on the 60-day DL, so they need his 40-man roster spot back.  Or is there an open slot that was freed up earlier that I’m forgetting?

First time the stick, second time the whip, third time into the lake with weights tied to your feet.  [/Asterix and Obelisk]

Will the Braves’ strategy be to IBB Wang so that he hurts himself on the basepaths?

Will the Braves’ strategy be to IBB Wang so that he hurts himself on the basepaths?

Wouldn’t it be in their best interest to keep him in the game?

Remember when Jeter had a streak of almost always getting a lead-off hit to start the game?  That was awesome.

Wouldn’t it be in their best interest to keep him in the game?

Atlanta wouldn’t be up by 5 or 6 by Wang’s first at bats? Nice to know we are going to be optimistic tonight.

What am I looking at in the pitch f/x data to see if Wang’s sinker is working right?

3 groundouts.  Nice.

I approve of that half-inning.

Price with Wangian first inning for TB.

[18] Are we sure Ransom was put on the 60 day DL?

Either way they should have a 40 man roster spot open from the activate Bruney/DFA Veras move, as Bruney was still on the 40 man.

Ah, that was the transaction I was forgetting.  Ransom is currently on the 60-day DL.

who are the people on the radio (gameday audio)? or are these new mics or something.. this is really weird.

hmm.. it must be some sort of higher quality feed.  Sterling sounds vaguely like Howard Stern.

Dillemma.

he’ll just have to hit it out.

Couldn’t you have taken a couple of pitches before that?

Hmm.  Wang should have been taking until he got a strike.

Remind me again why it’s “fun” to have the pitchers bat?

Gameday thinks Wang is getting squeezed a bit.

... but who cares with the 0s on the board and just 21 pitches so far.

I’d like to see more 1st inning Wang and less 2nd inning Wang, but I’ll take what I can get now.

Yay Jeter!

Remind me again why it’s “fun” to have the pitchers bat?

The strategy!  The double-switch, it’s so complicated!  Besides, the N.L. version is so pure!

Alex Rodriguez is sucking at playing baseball. His OPS is down to 0.821.

Urge to kill

The rest of MLB is really lucky that Cano insists on swinging at bad pitches.

Even SG’s supreme sacrifice of actually watching a game from the field cannot turn around the Yankee hopes.

This team is an epic fail.

Let’s swing at the first pitch from the guy who’s walked 3 and has a HBP in 3 innings.  Nice.

Kay just said about a dude dressed in a Native American outfit, “You have to be very brave to wear that.” Get it. Very Brave.

I missed the first two, but I’m assuming Wang looks ok since there appears to be this funny donut shaped icon where the numbers should be.

[45] I’m with you there.  Ditto with Swisher giving up strike one after Jeter smoked a double.

Wang’s ERA

That was fun. Just dig in Wang. And pick up Posado.

Posada pretended that he was I-Rod in his steroidal prime…to the team’s detriment.

When did we sign Mackey Sasser?

Spoke too soon

When did we sign April 2009 Wang?

The Yankees are now a bad baseball team.

Wang seems to have trouble pitching out of the stretch.

textbook.

What happened to first-inning Wang?

McCann had a terrific hit on a pitcher’s pitch, but that’s what good hitters do.

Garrett? Must be holdover from the Angel trouncing the Yankees mystique.

Remember when the Yankees didn’t suck?

That was an awkward slide from Melky.

Why bunt?  But I guess whatever.

Missed catch error? That seems like a bad thing.

Remember when the Yankees didn’t suck?

As A-Rod goes, so goes the Yankees.

I think Girardi’s instinct is usually to bunt. In this case, it doesn’t make a difference with Wang batting, but I could use less bunt.

Hanson is a kind of a jerk.

First pitch swinging here?

The Yankees are All-Pro at getting runners on and then stranding them.

Bad baseball team.

Team LOB: 8
RISP: 0-6

Holy blessed mother of suckatation. I cant take much more.

Bad baseball team.

It may not be fair, but the manager has to go if this keeps up much longer.

Swisher at 2 hasn’t really worked well, it appears.

Swisher at 2 hasn’t really worked well, it appears.

I have no idea if the data supports this, but it seems like he takes less pitches at 2.

Time to boldly threaten.

can’t keep a good Wang down

from how he’s pitched tonight, I think Wang is close to being what he used to be - he just needs a little bit more consistency with his control

I have directed my incomparable jinxing skills onto the Trenton, where Ivan Nova is apparently pitching a 1-hit shutout.

Sam- Please jinx Hanson.

[74] I’d like to see how he go through the heart of the Atlanta lineup before saying anything.

But it sucks when Alex doesn’t even stat pad.

Sam- Please jinx Hanson.

I am completely serious when I say this: Hanson will win a Cy Young someday, and he will remember fondly when he pitched a complete game shutout against the new York Yankees on the 23rd day of June, 2009.

I’m hoping that opposite field popout portends for something positive.

Oh good, the 2 out tease. Get in scoring position.

Well of course RC. The bases are empty.

78- Nice one.

from how he’s pitched tonight, I think Wang is close to being what he used to be - he just needs a little bit more consistency with his control

His problem appears to be pitching out of the stretch.

The Yankees sorta suck.

[77] He pitched around Chipper, which was understandable, then made some good pitches to McCann with a bad outcome. But you’re right - the bottom half of the Braves lineup isn’t exactly Murderers’ Row.

does anybody know the location/type of the pitch that Chipper hit? I thought it was gone off the bat.

It might have been gone in Yankee Stadium, but in a real ballpark, it was barely warning track. That it was in the air like that isn’t a good sign. But sometimes it’s a positive that Wang had enough stuff to make a good hitter miss on a somewhat hittable pitch.

[84]
Murderer’s row?  It’s hardly Shoplifter’s Row!

I would have like Wang to stay in, but whatever.

Why is Wang being pinch-hit for in a potentially winnable game when he’s thrown a grand total of 62 pitches, according to Gameday?

The Yankees lineup is Desolation Row right now. Bada bing.

The starting CFer steals 2B.

Why is Wang being pinch-hit for in a potentially winnable game when he’s thrown a grand total of 62 pitches, according to Gameday?

Might as well go for it now. Two on, 1 out.

Pinch run?

I’m not going to hyde from your challenge, Matt Waters - how about Rotten Row?
Esp. as it SHOULD be the Street of Kings?

Welke apparently thinks its 1995 and Maddux or Glavine is on the mound.

[92]
But you didn’t have two on, villainx - you only had a guy on first.
NOW you have two on, granted…

Allow me- Battleshit Row.

So, how do they fuck this one up?

I vote for a captain special GIDP.

Jeterian!

Derek Peter.

Who didn’t see that one coming.

This team is the essence of suck right now.

Way back in the 20th century, Bill James wrote the first essential book about baseball managers. Chris Jaffe has just written the second.

From now on, whenever I have a question about a manager, Jaffe's book will be the first and last one I reach for.

John Brattain Memorial Fund

The Hardball Times has set up a memorial fund for John Brattain's family. He left behind a wife and two teenage daughters.

Four years ago, I found from personal experience how generous the online community can be to its own in their hour of need. I am now literally begging you to be even more generous than you were to me.
