Yankee Win Probability: -100.0%

CC Sabathia has never won a World Series game.  In fact, his team is winless in every single game he’s ever started in the World Series.

Joe Blanton is undefeated in World Series action, and has a K rate of 10.5 per 9.  In fact, his team has won every single game he’s ever started in the World Series.

Whatever.

They should have punted this game.  Regroup and prepare for Game 5.

Kate-Rod goes yard. Yankees lose 8-1 because he only hits when the game’s out of reach. Inexplicably, Mo pitches 2 innings.

Posada is really 1.2 WAR?

Man, I wish the Yankees weren’t predetermined to lose this game.  Ah well, I guess we’ll get ‘em nest year, if Boston lets us into the playoffs.

a’hem next year.  mon pardon.

Hope this game goes better than my day today. Go Yankees.

In addition, CC Sabathia has never had a hit in a WS game. Joe Blanton has hit a HR in every WS game he has started.

Yankees don’t stand a chance.

Melky goes yard with CC batting behind him.

[3] Uh, yeah, is that a typo?  How is Ruiz higher?  Is there some unbelievable defensive edge being accounted for or something?

Wait, Jeter is 3.5 WAR over Rollins? But he’s never even won an MVP…

I still have no idea what time it is.

[11] You’re late!

It’s because of playing time I would bet.

[9] Fangraphs has Posada as 4.0 WAR, which sounds right. Probably just a typo.

Actually, it doesn’t look like a typo.. SG has 1.2 WAR for his previous WS start.

Playing time is a part of it, but Posada loses 16 runs of value because of -8 defense and -8 baserunning.  Fangraphs does not factor in either.  He’d be 2.8 WAR if he was average at both in my system.  Not sure why the difference in batting runs above replacement, although I’d assume it has to do with how I handle the position adjustment compared to Fangraphs.

I am astonished Posada maintains a positive WAR after subtracting his defense and baserunning.

I am preparing for the game by watching Point Break on encore.

i think thurm’s gonna run the wildkatt on ted ginn jr

I hate football. I hate the jets.
I love the Yankees and they love me back.
Shedding stupid green clothing, taking a shower, having a cocktail, petting the katt, gonna wear some real clothes. Perhaps a Mo jersey.
See yiz in an hour or so.

Just enough time before first pitch for wind up Ocean’s Eleven.

[18] Good one E. Except I hate football. What is a ted ginn? Selective memory my friend.

17. Utah? TWO!

Let’s go Yank-ees! I am pumped! C.C. shall deliver! Tex breaks out big against Blanton! Explanation points! !

[19] Could be worse.  My alma mater recently won their homecoming game to snap a 17 game losing streak.  Followed it up with a 42-24 road thumping.  And the Knicks are 56-111 since the beginning of 2007-08

Could be worse still.  You could have cared about one of the teams in the Rams - Lions game today.

Avatar tie-in pregame hype! Oh Fox, you’re the Foxiest.

I have a friend who is a Lions fan. He attended their last game last year (a road game) weaing the classic brown paper bag on his head and a not-so-classic roy williams jersey.

His is also a Knicks fan.

[24] Oh, I don’t know about that.  A rooting interest in Ivy League football is an exercise in futility.  Not only are the teams not good enough to qualify for any sort of postseason play, they’re explicitly barred by league bylaws.  Basically, you have eight teams that each hope to win one non-conference game (and if that means scheduling Colgate on five days rest, so be it).  The winner emerges with something like a 5-1-1 record.  And you get to watch one of the games on Versus.  Maybe.

Eric Karros reminds me of that character Bill Hader plays on that snl sports talk show skit. The one who is “NOT” an alien.

Apparently the Phillies have the heart of a champion.
Who did they kill to get it? That can’t be legal.

Mark Grace on his keys to the game: “The Phillies team itself.  The reason the Phillies are defending World Series Champions is because they have heart.”

I’ll venture a guess that he won’t be doing postseason pregames on FOX next year.

Which of these four clowns would you least expect to make a guest appearance doing pre-match interviews for pro wrestling ?

[31] Guillen if its lucha libre. Chris Rose if its WWE.

lets do this yanks! im in philly for this game too. i wonder how the apartments around me are going to react.

[33] By throwing batteries. Just like Ben Franklin did when Santa Claus was trying to crack the Liberty Bell.

[33] Beware the Germantown and Nicetown folks. Deadly. Stay in Center city.
BTW do you have a condo made of stoneo?

Can’t the Fox team get Earl Weaver? He probably won’t know shit, but he will at least be able to call these guys’ bullshits.

Is it me or do Buck and McCarver look like they’re trying to outdo each other at looking pale, pasty, bitter and shrivelled up ?

Where’s that Liberace guy from the TBS broadcasts when you need some color ?

The Yankees are in Philly to do two things: drink some beer and kick some *ss, and they are almost out of beer.

Ted, You can say ass in our house. Say it!

Leadoff hits are good. Runs could be better.

Or use a former crappy Yankee player’s name.

Joe Morgan makes that play. Today. Ask him.

yessuh! jete and damon.

Double by Trader is good. Runs will be better.

Run scoring is good. An out is not.

More runs will be good.

We’ll take the baserunner, Mr. Blanton.

Intentional? No way.

hitting ARod prevents the long ball. A good strategy, if risky.

On purpose?  Seemed like it, instead of an intentional walk.

lmao. yeah, im in center city. im going to be screaming no matter what.

geeze arod getting hit everytime he goes up.

Is Girardi getting tossed already?

Yes, Tim. He saved at least one run. Because there were two baserunners and only one scored. He saved the only run he could have saved.

Oh hell no. That’s some bullshit right there. Three HBP at Alex in two nights.

Baserunners are good. Warnings are not good.

More runs will be good.

Warnings are stupid. So are most umpires.

McCarver says there was NO WAY that was intentional.  But with first base open, how could you not speculate that it is?

A warning during the World Series before the home team even bats?  Dock Ellis wants a recount

Second run was good. The out was not. More runs will be good.

This is where Steinbrenner sends a runner to the dugout and says he’ll bankroll the fines. They can appeal the suspensions until after the series is over.

McCarver is claiming that it was a “terrific play” by Ruiz in blocking the plate?  How is Ruiz simply being there without having an effect on the play in any way “terrific”?  He didn’t even really block the plate all that much.

I can’t believe this shit.  I hope the Yankees drub ‘em, just so the Yankees can plunk Howard.

Cano still not good. The two runs were.

CC getting three quick outs without giving up a run will be good.

And CC only has 1/2 a plate now. fucking umpires. Fucking Blanton.

Plunk Howard?  I’d rather send him lots of delicious, fattening desserts as a thank you for his performance thus far.

They should change the starting pitcher to Bruney, let him take Rollins down, then hand it over to CC.

McCarver isnt talking about Blanton/Arod being not intentional. He is still on daylight savings so he is watching what is going onan hour from now. CC just hit Utley.

Better - plunk Werth.  The booth will implode in apoplexy.

CC should just pitch inside. No reason to let these asshat umpires to dictate things.

That Rollins out was good. Victorino out will be good too.

[66] He was shocked that the Yankees were early.

Damon with an OK dive, awful finish: 4.7

Nice try Trader. seriously.

That basehit by Victorino was not good. Specifically, the jump by Damon was atrocious.

Getting Utley out will be good.

That hit was lame.

I’d rather have Bruney do any plunking in the 9th when he’s pitching because of the Yankees 10 run lead.

[70] the Chinese are up next.

That hit by Victorino sucked.

Utley apparently owns CC.

That run was NOT good.

CC, please get your shit together. Specifically, please get Howard out. That will be good.

Why do Posada and CC insist on leaving the ball down to a low ball hitter that continues to crush it there?

Ugh. for the outcome and postseason.tv sucking. What the fuck happened mlb? How was this such a better product during the ALCS?

Um, strike two AND three??

Apparently the warning means the ump isnt calling stries on the inside of the plate.

CC not getting the low inside strike.

[81] Someone knocked out their cameras in the last game.

This Utley guy can hit eh?

I currently have a 24.28 Mbps download speed. Just tested it. This nonsense is totally mlb’s issue.

Clay, it’s the usual situation:
Their fault, your problem.

I am pretty confident (and optimistic) that the Yankees will score at least 8 runs tonight.

Ryan Howard, the Yankees WS MVP.

Oh no a Girardi mound visit.

Don’t these usually result in HRs?

Jonathan for king.

[87] I’m guessing their server’s overloaded?  Mine isn’t really choppy at all, though.  Occasional spinny-wheel thing and pause, but not much worse than that.

[93] Likely I’m just angry that they didn’t realize that a lot of people would be trying to watch this.

Mine is dropping feeds to nothingness, choppy I get the spinny thing all the time and can never get anything synced, (I had little trouble with this in the ALCS.

Less of a respect for Jason Wirth, more out of dealing with the reality that they’re not giving CC the bottom of the zone.

Ok, I’ll take 2-1 after one.

Well, as long as the Yankees continue to score one more than the Phillies do each inning they’ll be in good shape.

All things considered, not a bad inning.  Fastball touched 95, good break and control with the slider.

I feel pretty good about our chances to win this game if we keep scoring more runs than Philly.

It could have to do with the fact that I’m in LA, and the feeds are originating in Philly and NY.

Way back in the 20th century, Bill James wrote the first essential book about baseball managers. Chris Jaffe has just written the second.

John Brattain Memorial Fund

The Hardball Times has set up a memorial fund for John Brattain's family. He left behind a wife and two teenage daughters.

Four years ago, I found from personal experience how generous the online community can be to its own in their hour of need. I am now literally begging you to be even more generous than you were to me.
