Comments
Rodriguez gets a day off.
Yes! Aldehyde! Finally!
Such a horrible loneliness.
Are we feeling happy today ?
Pin, thank you, but I was just commenting on the utter dearth of commenting.
Wait, I misread that.
Wow. Burrell turned out to be one hell of a signing, didn’t he. Jeez.
Fan in a Jeter jersey caught that barehanded without spilling his beer.
Tell me that’s one of us…
[5] Yeah, I figured. I didn’t have anything else to say, other than - uh, “howdy”.
No sub-4 era for Andy.
On Burrell, he is due something like $11M next season. That might even cause them to trade Crawford and certainly played into them trading Kazmir.
Detroit down 2-0, more possibly coming.
Could this be working out any better? (knock on wood, fingers crossed)
[12] We could be waltzing through these tuneup games, but ok.
Also 2-0 White Sox ahead of the Tigers. White Sox have the former leader of the Nation of Domination on the mound.
And I didnt see Pete post that score before I did.
Yay TSBG.
Nolan Niemann
Figaro andato. Though I’m guessing Hawk doesn’t speak Italian.
Beckett has allowed 4 through 2.
Figaro Andato
Pitching propect from Cuba ?
Laffey just eliminated the pesky baserunners.
Minnesota really is the better team, right? Even without Morneau.
Phillies have lost their last 3, St Louis 2, and the dodgers 5…..all w/ the HFA on the line.
Torre just trying to follow his blueprint for success from the 2000 Yankees.
Cleveland sucks. Seriously.
They also have a crappy baseball team.
2nd HBP for Hairston?
Carl Pavano on three days rest with your season on the line. Really? Wow.
The author wishes to retract [22].
[26] yes
Trader !
How come Gardner didn’t score on the Damon hit ?
How could they hit Hairston twice? And after the dubious Teixeira HBP yesterday… is there something going on here that isn’t evident to everyone?
Because he forgot to steal second before the Damon hit?
Pete, I thought they shoulda brought Alby to pitch the bottom of the 1st yesterday. Or some other disposable pitcher.
Teix!
Incidentally, every time he hits a HR I think of how good it is that I don’t have the radio call. I liked many of the old calls, but they’ve gone just plain rancid over the past 2 years.
[32]
If only the primary concern of every team were the baseball education of NYY players, MC! If only…
[31] Sabathia did end Pena’s season a few weeks early.
Laundered Sox up on Tiggers 4-0.
[31]
Yes, but - Hairston? Twice?
[32] Yeah, I was suggesting he’s so speedy he could score from 1st…ah, forget it.
That’s gotta be E5, no ?
Ya know what would suck worse than anything? Getting eliminated by the Twins in the first round with Pavano pitching a complete game in the elimination game.
The Tigers have a team OPS+ of 94. The Twins have a team ERA+ of 92. The Rangers have an OPS+ of 100 and an ERA+ of 103. Not to mention that they’ve won more baseball games than either the Tigers or Twins. MLB’s playoff system is pretty dumb when you get right down to it.

Are you suggesting that playoff spots should be issued based on statistical rankings? I’m not suggesting the current playoff system is perfect but I’m not sure what would be better.
What actually happened? How did those two runs score?
OK, what the hell happened? Gameday gave the Rays two runs in the bottom of the fifth with no plausible explanation.
Whatever the answer to the questions posed in [42], [41] is incredibly correct.
[42] Team wins is a statistic, right? So yeah, sure. The OPS+ and ERA+ just serve to preempt arguments about the Rangers win total being somehow flukey.
I hope you’re all busily typing out extended answers to [43] and [44]...
Ha! Next GD is going to say: Guzman scores on a burp by the left-fielder.
[43, 44] Double steal, Aceves made a pickoff move to third, had him dead to rights. Ace threw to Hinske who was running to cover the bag/make the tag, it went off his glove and through to faul territory/bullpen area. Both runners scored.
Now, Hinske was running to third, but it didn’t look to me like the ball was terribly behind him, if at all. It did look like like Hinske took his eye off the ball.
Gameday has it scored as a throwing error.
[47] Yes, I was. Also stopped to wolf down a pork chop.
[50]
And I know why.
[51] Wanted to get back to this rivetting game as quickly as possible.
Detroit 0, clean laundry 4, now in the eighth.
Funny stuff.
[52]
Actually, Pinstriper, I had in mind your description of the part of your anatomy that Gammons was encouraged to kiss.
Ha ! I clean forgot about that. Short attention span, ya know.
The offer still stands (for Gammons, nobody else. OK, Sutcliffe and Philips, too)
Oh, how lame ! Apparently at the Trop, they have a light-up line of “K” signs.
4-1 laundry, top of the 9th.
Gee, if we didn’t have that bum Posada lead of this inning, we’d be golden right now, having left if to Peña and Guzman.
Fernando Rodney is not very good at baseball.
Laundry - 5, bases loaded.
One out away from a tie in the central.
Tied.
What happens if they hit Hairston here ? Does he charge the mound ? Do you have Duncan charge the mound ? Duncan charge the dugout ?
Uh oh. From Yankees.com, “Joba to the pen.”
http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20091003&content_id=7305184&vkey=news_nyy&fext=.jsp&c_id=nyy
That’s the only place he can contribute in the ALDS. Kim Jones, who I basically like, asked Joba in the postgame if he would be able to return to being the reliever he was when he pitches on Sunday. Um…k.
[63] Part of a secret plan to have Joba, Hughes, and IPK all pitch teh ate?
[65] Well, the Yankees are all about secret plans.
So I guess if there is a one game playoff for the central it will be Porcello against Baker.
