This lineup meets my approval.

Bobby Abreu is number 6 in OBP on this team. Usually, that would be a good thing for the team, but this year, it just speaks to Abreu’s decline.

So, Jeter is supremely confident that the only way he can do something productive for this team is by bunting in the first inning to maximize the chance of an out.

Game over?

Likely, given Tuesday.

WOE is efficient in making outs, even when they conspire to put the first hitter on base.

Were the A-Rod and Nady line outs at least well-hit?

arod’s was. didnt see nady’s

The Ponson implosion was bound to happen sooner or later.

Sigh.  Not as if this was likely to end well anyway.

Are we at rock bottom yet?

on the brightside, maybe we can beat up on boston so we both miss the playoffs.

Girardi is scrounging around looking for a white flag in the dugout.

of course, this just isn’t a good baseball team.

“Are we at rock bottom yet?”

This was a lost game anyway.  If Joba comes back and bombs, or Hughes, then you’ll know.

Pavano’s CG 1-hitter on Saturday will be looked at retrospectively as the start that saved the season.

So has everyone given up and found better things to do than to hang out in here?

They should’ve replaced Ponson with a guy playing Taps on the trumpet.

I just turned this on. Is the scoreboard broken?

It can’t be this bad, right?

10 goddamn runs? Already?

We are playing to avoid being the first team in a long time to give a run in every inning of a game. I´ve heard it is more rare than a perfecto, is it true?

Should have read first team in the AL.

5 pitches???? FIVE PITCHES????

I’m packing up the kid and going out for some damn beer.

Oh, for the love of God.

Wow, just wow.  I’m now hoping the team goes 6-29 with 6 wins against the Red Sox.

I am looking forward to the kind of adjectives that will get thrown around describing this performance.

So, 22-0 is in sight. Go for it guys!

A walk to top things off. Can someone just pitch to contact and just try to end this nightmare?

So I was watching some Little League World Series and one team won by mercy rule.  Do they have that for MLB?

I can hear Sox fans that live on my street laughing they’re ovaries off.
I don’t care. I have #13. The greatest player of all time on my side.

Dammit, why did Matsui hit that rally-killing homer?

Back with a six pack for me and some E.L. Fudges for the kid. We’re now fully prepared for the ass-kicking.

Also the E.L. Fudges are for me too.

Does bigger deficit = bigger pointless rally??

Nope, just a double play. Gee whiz, did I set myself up for that one.

Apparently not.

Wow. I think they’ve waved the white flag. And yet the Jays are still hitting.

Hey kids!

Hi Don. What’s new?

Nady is like the band on the Titanic, bravely (yet pointlessly) playing on as the ship goes down.

coming home from work to this makes me wanna go back to work. embarassing. i’m excited for next year.

I’m going to watch Seattle. Hopefully that makes me thankful I’m a Yankee fan.

Don’t worry, our white knight Pavano is on his way.

Why would anyone watch this team when the Olympics are on? At least those people have talent.

Especially the US men and women in the 4 x 100 relay! tongue wink

I’m not watching the Olympics because I don’t want to encourage Red China.

Does watching the Yankees seem to encourage them? wink

Simpsons movie does not suck.
In fact its better than some other things I’ve watched recently.

I agree Thurm. I agree. I liked Albert Brooks. Although I wish he was off discovering guys who throw 27 strikeout games and hit homers every time up.

wiat did we just ride a sled into the past.

y’all just got dalhaussed

Yes we did eelz. Yes we did.

14-3 or 2-1, a loss is a loss is a loss. Tomorrow is another story. This is not over yet, even if it really does feel like the band playing as the Titanic sinks.

This is not over yet, even if it really does feel like the band playing as the Titanic sinks.

Seems it was fortunate I missed the game last night.  Out to dinner with my wife for our anniversary.  I called my brother twice - to check on the kids of course! - and first time he said, “2-0 in the third”.  Second time he said, “you don’t want to know”.

Sigh.  It is getting hard to remain optimistic.  Winning 5 of the next 6 is kind of imperative at this point.  If they do that they should pick up anywhere from 2-4 games on the Sox, and probably two on the Twins.

The way Baltimore has slapped them around this year they’ll be lucky to avoid a sweep. Guthrie and Cabrera probably won’t give up more than 4 runs combined. Glad I won’t be around to watch it.

In order to stay in the good graces of rilkefan - and to repay the rest of you for putting up with me - here are some interesting things I came across this morning:

Here’s an interesting read on Camberlain’s mechanics.

Lane Meyer has a wonderful analysis of this year’s draft.

Ian Kennedy had a good take on his last outing.

I continue to be unimpressed with SWB manager Dave Miley.  Here’s a snippet from Chad Jennings blog:

“Matt Carson is out of the lineup again, but manager Dave Miley said Carson is healthy. It seems to be a matter of finding a spot for him in an outfield that now includes Justin Christian, Melky Cabrera and Shelley Duncan, each of whom needs to play every day.”

Why exactly does Shelley Duncan need to play every day?  Why over Carson, who the Yankees need to make a decision on this off-season and is finally making talent=results in the upper-levels?

And my final rambling…Phil Hughes pitches tonight, in what could be a huge start.  If he gets regular rest, his next start would come the same day as Sir Sid’s.  A good night tonight, and perhaps we’ll see Hughes instead.

Thanks for the links Mike.

You’re welcome.

“In order to stay in the good graces of rilkefan”

That’s right, fear my wrath.

Way back in the 20th century, Bill James wrote the first essential book about baseball managers. Chris Jaffe has just written the second.

From now on, whenever I have a question about a manager, Jaffe's book will be the first and last one I reach for.

John Brattain Memorial Fund

The Hardball Times has set up a memorial fund for John Brattain's family. He left behind a wife and two teenage daughters.

Four years ago, I found from personal experience how generous the online community can be to its own in their hour of need. I am now literally begging you to be even more generous than you were to me.
