I like this game thread better. Also the error by the White Sox.

Take advantage, Yankees.

I will be most unhappy if the Yankees manage not to score this inning.

We don’t have stats and win probability today?

Are there any announcers that we collectively like?

Vin Scully?  Al Leiter?

Why isn’t A-Rod a switch-hitter?  He had talent to burn in the minors.

SG must be on a break.

Matsui is a veteran; thus a two-out hit?

We don’t have stats and win probability today?

Game thread was posted by Jonathan, not SG.

Still, even w/out stats and win probs, this game is important.

would it kill Pierzynski to miss one or two of the balls in the dirt?

[5] I don’t know if it would’ve helped. When a switch-hitter has a markedly stronger side, sometimes I wonder if it wouldn’t be better for him to just always hit from that side. Of course, he loses the platoon advantage, but the tradeoff might be a net gain.

Freddy sez “Frustration plagues Yankees!”

Is it too early to feel slightly better about Mitre today?

RISPY ROBBIE

At least Jeter is more or less guaranteed an AB this inning.

I know we joke about these things, but shouldn’t walking Molina actually cause an immediate pull?

Wait, what the hell?  Did that just happen?  2 doubles, a single, a WALK to MOLINA, and Jeter bunts?  I don’t get it.

Michael Kay making sense to me.

Why the heck is Jeter bunting with no outs and two on?

Nothing like a 4-0 lead…

Teh bunt.  Memo to Derek: you’re a .330 hitter.

Except, well, a 5-0 lead…

Wow, just wow.  What an absolutely dumb play.  I just don’t get it.

Yay Trader!!

Anyway, at least the bunt was able to get Molina in. I am skeptical that Contreras would have been able to get Jeter out, but anyway, it is a minor peeve.

It’s more the decision making that’s bugging me, not the actual impact on this specific game.

Contreras’s stuff doesn’t look bad at all, but he can’t locate it for shit.

Ok, Michael, now you are making me regret that I agreed with you. Why on earth would Blue Jays not want to get out of Rios’ contract and dump his salary?

Mitre sawing them off?

Mitre sawing them off?

Mitre has very good movement on all his pitches thus far. The White Sox are not getting good swings.

I think this game has already been a rousing success based on Mitre giving Yankees 3 shutout innings. That is far more than I expected.

Now keep it up for 3 more, and we are golden.

Now keep it up for 3 more, and we are golden.

Mitre will throw a complete game 4-hitter today.

Michael Kay making the case that Yankees are the reason why AL is better than NL. I think it is not complete baloney, but he perhaps overstates the case.

Mitre will throw a complete game 4-hitter today.

That would be diamond-ey. Sign me up.

Teh bunt.  Memo to Derek: you’re a .330 hitter.

It’s his version of a reverse jinx.  If he pretends that he hits below .200, he’ll stay above .300.

At this rate Contreras will be lucky to make it through the 5th. I approve.

I am liking the Jerry Hairston era.

Not a fan of the Jose Molina era though.

Mitre to the Frog: STFU.

Wow, Mitre working quickly.

rLr, it seems like you are Nostradamus today.

Whoever thought you could say Sergio Mitre and perfect game in the same sentence?

Just goes to show that you cannot predict baseball…

rLr, it seems like you are Nostradamus today.

I don’t think he’s going to continue at his current pace, obviously, but his stuff looks good. The White Sox are not squaring him up at all.

Of course, the Sox announcers are telling me that Mitre has been “getting the job done” because the Yankees are 4-2 in his starts. That is perhaps an exaggeration.

Whoever thought you could say Sergio Mitre and perfect game in the same sentence?

That makes it two of you: Michael Kay is in your company in uttering the unmentionable.

Of course, the Sox announcers are telling me that Mitre has been “getting the job done” because the Yankees are 4-2 in his starts. That is perhaps an exaggeration.

You are being subjected to the Hawk? My condolences.

Jeter, see what happens when you actually hit?

[41]  Three of them: Sterling too.

[25] Exactly.  What it means is that in the playoffs he’s bunting in the 9th inning of a tied or 1-run game.

Wow, Teix completely fooled.

You are being subjected to the Hawk? My condolences.

I recently moved away from a YES region and to a WGN region.

Stat padder!

This is batting practice, except for Teix, who has looked quite foolish twice in a row.

Didn’t he have a lineout in between his two K’s?

You are being subjected to the Hawk? My condolences.

Adding my condolences…

No one has a worse HR call than the Hawk…

Actually, if there is one situation when I wouldn’t mind listening to the Hawk, it is when the White Sox are losing.

No one has a worse HR call than the Hawk…

It’s the “we” that annoys me.

Didn’t he have a lineout in between his two K’s?

Good point. The Yankees have been turning the lineup over right quick.

Pile it on!

7-0.

This is a blood-bath.

Nothing like an 8-0 lead…

Now Mitre doesn’t have to worry about being too fine and can just go after guys. I’m revising to a 3-hitter.

The Yankees have scored 8 runs without a HR, is that even legal?

The Yankees have scored 8 runs without a HR, is that even legal?

Not in that joke of a bandbox.

We don’t have stats and win probability today?

Game thread was posted by Jonathan, not SG.

Still, even w/out stats and win probs, this game is important.

I’d post the lines and WAR if I wasn’t rushed to get the thread up.
Also, if your curious, my own Yankees WP for today was 57.36%.
But right now it’s about 107.04%.  My abacus is broken, I think.

What a play by A-Rod!

ARod preserving the perfecto.

I blame [61] and [39].

Mitre: 5 innings and 58 pitches… It *that* legal??

[62] I blame the fact that no way in this universe will Sergio throw a perfecto.

Mitre was never throwing a no-hitter. It just wasn’t happening. The 3-hitter, though, he could do that.

I take full blame for blowing Mitre’s perfect game.

Jeter is having a very Jeterian year…

Did Jeter invent the single or just perfect it?

Damn Jetes is hitting everything.

Did Jeter invent the single or just perfect it?

Willie Keeler invented it. Pete Rose perfected it. Jeter raised it to an art form.

The infield ate their wheaties today.

Wow Cano must be top 3 2nd baseman in the game to make that kind of play… Mitre is kind of good today…Should he pitch teh ate?

Wow, what a play by Cano.

Yankee defense has been much improved for the last two days. I credit the rainy weather.

Mitre is kind of good today…Should he pitch teh ate?

And the one after. Mitre has just plain been better than the White Sox today.

[59] *you’re

Willie Keeler invented it. Pete Rose perfected it. Jeter raised it to an art form.

Ichiro has converted it to an industrial, assembly line level.

[75] I think you passed the statue of limitations on grammar corrections.

Cano has one hell of an arm.  He made that look easy.  And I think that’s part of the problem.  He needs style points.

[79] Cano isn’t learning from Jeter. Lazy!

Back from the movies, Moon directed by Bowie’s son, The Sergio Mitre Experience:who would have thunk it.  You just can’t predict this game and anyone who thinks he can is fooling himself.

My tv must be broken, because it just showed Cano getting a hit with RISP.

Rhetorically speaking, do the Yankees have the ‘Mitre Rules’?

Rhetorically speaking, do the Yankees have the ‘Mitre Rules’?

They should, with him being a prospect and all.

Rhetorically speaking, do the Yankees have the ‘Mitre Rules’?

Yeah, you take as many good innings from Mitre as you can.

2700 hits in i’m really coming around to like this Jeter fellow.

Laters, Espinoza!

Oh man, they needed just an excuse to take Mitre out. Not cool.

Standing O for Mitre…

I’m standing at my computer!

Curse you, Pierzynski. You ruined my prediction. I guess it’s Robertson time.

Joba and Phil are probably wondering how you can throw so few pitches through six innings. Probably thinking that Mitre is being foolish in not throwing as many as possible.

Joba then laughs as he recalls his 4 inning 100 pitch effort against the Mets. Let’s see you do that Mitre, says Joba to Phil.

Curse you, Pierzynski. You ruined my prediction. I guess it’s Robertson time.

I thought that was a good call rLr… Mitre was cruisin’

Actually, if there is one situation when I wouldn’t mind listening to the Hawk, it is when the White Sox are losing.

It’s great when Hawk gets upset because it becomes an announcer-less game. Complete silence.

Is Beckham banged up?  If not, why wouldn’t you want the guy who’s about to become the franchise cornerstone to see as much major league pitching as possible?

In addition to being batshit insane, Ozzie doesn’t really know what he’s doing.

Mitre just killed my gameday. It is listing all 186 pitches thrown this game in the same at bat.

[85] I approve of this post.

These are the times when you realize why you need the back of a bulpen.

[94] - Me too.  Gameday got Ozziefied.

I guess Gaudin is the designated “break glass in case of emergency” guy, whether the emergency is that the starter got annihilated in the third or the starter got hit by a liner. I think Gaudin is better than the average pitcher who occupies this role.

Re #4-David Cone

2700 hits in i’m really coming around to like this Jeter fellow.

I remember reading a SI article in 96 or 97 about how the NY teams had finally found their shortstops for the next decade, Jeter and…Rey Ordonez.

John Brattain Memorial Fund

The Hardball Times has set up a memorial fund for John Brattain's family. He left behind a wife and two teenage daughters.

Four years ago, I found from personal experience how generous the online community can be to its own in their hour of need. I am now literally begging you to be even more generous than you were to me.
