Yankee Win Probability: 61.4%
The Yankees have lost three series since June 21. One was the just-concluded Rangers series, another one was the pre ASB sweep by the Angels, and the third one was against the White Sox in Chicago July 30 through August 2. It’s a chance for payback tonight. Weather permitting of course.
Go Yankees.
Comments
Might want to recalculate that win probability, I have the ChiSox showing up with a 106% win probability again. (I get my stats from Ozzie)
Wasn’t the only game the Yankees won in that 4 game set at the Cell a match-up of CC against Buehrle?
From the previous comments:
I suppose with Kazmir out of the way, the Rays might be in a position to pick up Crawford’s option.
I think no matter what the Rays are picking up Crawford’s option. If they don’t want to keep him around, they can just flip him for prospects. If they can’t extend him, they could just make another run at the playoffs with him, then offer him arbitration after next year and collect the draft picks then.
I just see no reason they would dare risk declining his option and offering arbitration for the draft picks, when they KNOW the Yankees and Red Sox both will be in the market for a LF.
strike outs, nice.
Jeter!
Wow. Quiet.
I wonder where the team ranks in terms of runs scored per multiple-hit inning?
I’m finding CC’s current strike-ball ratio immensely appealing.
That was a sexy inning, especially after the lead-off double.
Only 5 strikeouts and 5 balls in 28 pitches? CC is such a slacker.

C.C. has a devastating change-up tonight.
Yes, but will he do that in the postseason, Tokyo?
Caño went to 3 and 0 by taking a number of very close pitches, as per GD.
[10] No, he will give up 8 ER in the 1st inning. I kid of course. I actually heard CC talk about his past postseason struggles. He said he put to much pressure on himself to make a perfect pitch every time, throw a no-hitter, etc., rather than just pitching.
If CC continues on this roll and wins what would be his final 12 starts, it’s hard to imagine him not winning the CY, deserving or not. Voters will salivate at the 22-7 record and the 12-game streak down the stretch.
“wins what would be his final 12 starts”
And I thought Mike K. was being optimistic earlier…
Hemp necklace sales down in Boston.
[14] I’m not saying it will happen. Just thinking about what will happen if that’s the case. You could have Greinke with 230 IP of 2.40 ERA and Sabathia with 240 IP of 3.50 ERA. Greinke will be lucky to get 15 wins while Sabathia has a legit shot at 20+. Most voters probably see it as a race between Verlander, Beckett, and Sabathia anyway.
Homer happy Beckett is back!!! Hope it lasts till the end of the season.
[17] That would be beautiful. I like the homer-happy version of Beckett.
That was sub-optimal.
CC’s first three innings: Balls = K’s + 1. Absolutely sick.

That slider Sabathia struck out Thome with belonged on a cartoon reel. Amazing movement.
“Hemp necklace sales down in Boston.”
Over my head.
Why doesn’t Molina bunt more? I’d be okay with him bunting even with 2 outs.

Just a couple more runs here could put this game on ice.

Really good AB by Swisher. Too bad Cano can’t hit with the bases loaded.
“Hemp necklace sales down in Boston.”
Over my head.
Beckett wears about 12 hemp necklaces. He is struggling tonight. Thus, sales are down.
And he just threw a 93mph fastball that hit Scutaro in the head.
I wonder if gameday and the like will force the league to call the outside edge of the zone to LHs according to the rules.

Jesus Aaron Hill has 31 ding-dongs? Damn.
“Beckett wears about 12 hemp necklaces”
O-kay.
The offense took 2 days off
Sales are REALLY down.
Please get the third out now, without a run scoring.
Thanks much in advance.
Homerun Barajas, 5-3 bluebirds.
Was the Nix single a tough play?
Smart move by the White Sox make those two quick outs so they would be guaranteed to score.
[34] Ball bounced just about on the line and jumped over the bag. A-Rod dove and snagged it in foul territory, but it was a fair ball. By the time he got up he had no throw. Great save.

Let’s get CC a win.
The Internets tell me that Bruney was warming last inning—could this possibly be true?
I have the CWS feed tonite. Their play by play guy actually announced the Damon K by with a very pithy “He gone.”
Wow. That’s putrid.
Wow, like three really good defensive plays to save CC. He deserved every bit of it, though. For the first six, he was a one-man on a mission.
5-5 at Fenway. HR Bay. Richmond sucks, but Jays have not many options.
Gameday just said Hughes was pitching ... but we all know that can;t be true, right?
[41] Hughes IS on the mound throwing warmups, but I think Girardi will bring Coke in to actually pitch.
If there is one guy who may have cost CC a win, it has to be Cano. He really could have blown this open.
13 K’s in 8 innings. Pitching’s been there tonight. Come on offense.
Didn’t you just expect Rios would get a big hit last inning? Sucker must hit .350 only against Yanks.
Nice inning by Hughes, but he needs to learn to get some easy outs or he’ll morph into Joba once he goes back to starting.
Did any of you think Girardi should have made a move last inning to Hughes, particularly after the first two were out and especially after A-rod stopped the ball to load the bases? I think it was another case of reacting after the fact. CC was gassed.
I have the CWS feed tonite. Their play by play guy actually announced the Damon K by with a very pithy “He gone.”
Is this the first time you have been exposed to Hawk Harrelson?
He is the absolute worst there is in the ML.
Jorge not available at all right? So 2 outs and 2 on it’s all Molino…
How long will they go with Thornton tonight? Do they bring in Jenks or somebody else next inning.
exposed
I never noticed it was that bad. Homerism, sure. But that is just hacktastic.
What is the deal with the rope/hemp necklace? Is it fashion statement or what?
Swish setting up Robbie by keeping the bases clear.
I assume we won’t get another inning out of Hughes. Maybe Mo goes 2 if necessary…
I saw the other day that Swish was over .250. He must feel more comfortable around .235
12 pitch at bat. I love Swisher, he can bat .100 of all I care as long as he does that once a game.
Cano is looking a little Swishtastic on gameday right now.
Why not let Hughes start 9th? Because everything is about roles I guess. Don’t want the press second guessing you so the manager does the tried and true.
It’s high and far and it’s foul. I am getting pretty sick of Sterling.
Didn’t you just figure Cano would fan? I don’t like the mojo tonight. we’ve had no breaks at all on offense and the wind evidently has cost three homers if you can believe the announcers.
Didn’t you just figure Cano would fan?
Actually, with no baserunners, I was pretty confident. I was figuring he’d get thrown out at second trying to stretch a double.
Can we end this quick so Thome can get the Sombrero?
I am so sick of playing to the press too joeln. That’s the reason they bunted Swisher on Monday and it’s the reason the guy who STRUCK OUT THE SIDE didn’t at least start the inning.
Ah ! He gone.
{Eew. I feel dirty after that.}
Would have been nice to have a healthy Nady all season. And Wang for that matter.
MELKY IS DUE UP!
I’d call that pretty efficient. He’s gotta let Mo face the top of the order in the 10th.
But let’s make it a moot point. Pretty safe to say we’re gonna see teh bunt if Melky reaches.
[62] add Gardner and A-Rod to that.
Vortex Control: Engage.
... I’m guessing they can’t pinch run for Molina.
There’s only one thing that would be more disgraceful than Hawk right now, and it would offer some poetic license. Drop a dong, Damon!
Who is the emergency catcher BTW? Hairston?
Melky due up again in the 12th. Just hang on.
Dooood. Bruney? For real?
Bruney. You’ve got to be Farnsin’ kidding me?
[69] I’d guess Posada, but only if absolutely necessary.
Brian Bruney in a tie game? This doesn’t feel good.
(65) very true
end of 9th. This is why we should have stayed with Hughes for two. If Bruney comes in oh boy. Even so, this one is entirely on our enemic offense. They should have stayed with Mo for two IMO.
I don;t know whats going to be worse, losing before or after Coke shows up.
0-2 and now 3-2 that doesn’t feel too good does it?
three fouls, he’s measuring Bruney. This will be a walk or a homer I fear. Chances are it won’t be an easy out.
Like a soft fly?
Considering his pitch count, Hughes should have gone two. Then, considering his pitch count, Mo should have gone two. The only thing I can think is that Girardi is trying to give borderline players some very high-leverage audition time for the postseason…Coke last night, Bruney tonight. In my most generous mind, I chalk up Swisher’s sac bunt to this same mentality: Girardi wanting to see who has what for the postseason.
Yeah, I mean, obviously you want to win every game you can, but is it really worth Mo for 2 in this game? I’m okay that he got his 10 pitches in and is done.
[80] I wish I shared that unwavering optimism.
bruney doesn’t seem to have a feel for the punch out slider
80—& if we had this same lead on Sept 15th, I might be interested in Girardi’s newsletter…
Whew and I mean Whew!!!!
...yeah, I don’t really agree with the mindset I just described…I only try to explain why the Farns Bruney is pitching the 10th inning of a tie game.
A-Rod walk off?
[81] If Mo had thrown more pitches, I’d say yeah, let him sit. But he’s warm, and he chewed up his half pretty quickly with 10 pitches.
Sterling did it again to us on the radio. I’m getting pissed with his premature calls.
Let’s burn an effigy of Sterling sometime.
[87] - I don’t know, I guess for me, I don’t really care that much if they win or lose this game. They’re 7.5 games up on a playoff spot and 6 up in the division with a month to go. What’s the point of having Mo sit down and then go back in there? He’s nearly 40.
Can this team of ours hit a single or a double?
Cano walk-off after Swisher walks.
I see their strategy, get to Cano with RISP.
Those sly bastards.
Hey, they put the Yankee game up on the screen while there’s a rain delay here. Sweet.
[90] I’m not particularly bent out of shape about it, but for the sake of argument, his last outing was five days ago, the prior one four days before that…a little use isn’t a bad thing, even for an old guy like Mo.
Blinders!!!
Juggernaut, bitches !
Fuck yeah.
Perhaps I was a little hard on that Cano fella. Good nite ya all.
I’m gitty.
