This list looks suspect to me.

how is Tabata the #3 prospect?

If injured Andrew Brackman really merits the 8th spot, what did injured Humberto Sanchez do to get kicked off the list?

Abraham’s reporting that 1) Posada’s shoulder is a car crash and he needs surgery and six months of recovery and 2) he’s going to rest it for two weeks and try to come back as a DH/1B anyway.

Given what’s he’s been like as a hitter with his shoulder the way it is, I wish he’d get the surgery tomorrow and come back next year.

how is Tabata the #3 prospect?

I think that’s entirely on “talent” for a 20 yr-old in AA.  Obviously isn’t based on what he’s done this year.

I think #3 for Tabata is questionable, but yeah it’s gotta be age/level + “not falling flat on his face.”  Still, he’s clearly not progressed this year.

Re: Posada… as I said on Bronx Banter, I just hope it’s misinformation for trade negotiation purposes.  If it’s really the plan, that is insane.

If it’s really the plan, that is insane.

Eh.  Depends on what they feel is “success” for Posada to come back and play.  If he can come back in 2 weeks and put up an OPS of around .850 for the rest of the year as an everyday DH/occasional 1B, it’s obviously worth it.  Well, this year at least.  Might still be even if he misses the first month of next season.  If however they feel “success” is him being able to play 3 times a week at DH to a .750 OPS, no, it’s not worth it.

Either way, I don’t think two weeks really affects when he comes back next year.  Hopefully he doesn’t get into like Matsui.  E.g. in two weeks, “well, it feels a little better, let’s give it two more”.

By the way, Zach McAllister has really emerged this year.  He’s more than holding his own as a 20 year old in Tampa - which is impressive.

Is 20 young for Tampa?

Given what’s he’s been like as a hitter with his shoulder the way it is, I wish he’d get the surgery tomorrow and come back next year.

I just hope it’s misinformation for trade negotiation purposes.  If it’s really the plan, that is insane.

Couldn’t agree with you guys more.  And the last thing the Yanks need is another 1B/DH, especially if it’s a risk to rob them of a healthy Posada in the years to come.

There arent enough charts and graphs accompanying this blog post.

Posada is going to have the surgery shortly after the trade deadline.

it’s a really weak attempt to maintain a shred of leverage in any talks for a bat.

the Yankees aren’t going to risk Posada missing part of 2009 to see if he can come back and DH a little in September.

i am 100% positive about this.

The assumption that this idea with Posada rehabbing to be a 1B/DH is for leverage in trade negotiations is that the Yankees are actually in the market for a bat to DH. Could be an interesting week..

BTW AJ has really been of fire lately.  So no official chatter until the Yankees lose I gather

Tampa down 2-0 already! Yanks need to put the nail in the Twins coffin. That’ll teach em to screw with Liriano.

So no official chatter until the Yankees lose I gather

SHHHHHHHHH!

I doubt the lack of an official chatter has anything to do with this winning streak.  CLEARLY, the winning streak is the result of me paying an arm and a leg for the last home game, under the assumption that there will be no playoffs.  They haven’t lost since I purchased them.

you can all thank me by chipping in.

SHHHHHHHHH!

What? I didn’t hear (read) anything..

“Loves twinkies”

Dang, I thought we were going to get another Moose Confection-Incentive.

you can all thank me by chipping in.

Thanks kronic.  By chipping in, if you ever find yourself in Wilkes-Barre, PA look me up and I’ll gladly buy you a beer!

Moose has good movement on the fastball today.

Wow, batting the backup catcher third.  That’s…odd.

Re: #20:  Yeah, Moose is looking great today, on the whole.

Wow, batting the backup catcher third.  That’s…odd.

Gardy bats the catcher third. Period. Mauer, Redmond, Wil Nieves, David Parrish. Doesn’t matter.

Wiining streak could be result of Mercury moving into Uranus

I’ve heard of a Barium enema, but never Mercury.

Wiining streak could be result of Mercury moving into Uranus

Don’t look at me. I take my temperature orally like a big boy.

Actually the winning streak is the result of me not being able to truly watch a game in recent weeks.

Meanwhile, while that inning wasn’t a success, Perkins looks hittable.

ym:  I was worried about that as well, I was in Omaha for a family reunion Friday-Monday, and was unsure if I should watch the game last night.

Meanwhile, while that inning wasn’t a success, Perkins looks hittable.

He’s a lefty.  Which means he’s unhittable to anyone wearing pinstripes.

No, you’re ok to watch.  I actually heard Girardi say in the post-game that they’ll keep winning as long as Marv Cook doesn’t watch.

Moose has 5 ground outs and a K to start. Awesome.

Haha, I think Marv’s probably a Cub fan, so we shouldn’t have too much to worry about.

Actually the winning streak is the result of me not being able to truly watch a game in recent weeks.

My cable just cut out on me as they were throwing out Abreu. I think I forgot to pay for awhile.

I hate foul outs.  Its like having to take a really big dump, and then nothing comes out.

Did anyone catch the “Mr. Robinson’s Neighborhood” graphic for Cano during the game lead-in?

Couple of lineouts so far, I feel pretty good about them getting this guy the second time around, lefty or not.

I would love to see Mussina get 20 wins.  Its about time.

Lets get 2 moose!

I’ll take the K.

Beautiful pitch for the strikeout.

How many more starts will Moose get?

Keep up the bunting, twinkies.  We’ll take the outs.

That was a sweet pitch.

How many more starts will Moose get?

My rough guess would be around 11 or 12 not including today.

Gomez sucks a lot.

That guy with the beer totally blew that catch.

A few more reps on the bench, Justin.

If Gardner needs to play everyday he should go back down to SWB.  Christian just seems so much better up there, like he can actually get his weight back and drive the ball. Gardner’s swing is seriously fucked up.

I want Moose to win 20, pitch a no hitter agains the Red Sox, and win a W.S. this season.

What’s with all the 2 pitch outs??

I want Moose to win 20, pitch a no hitter agains the Red Sox, and win a W.S. this season.

And develop and HIV vaccine and a hydrogen-powered car.

and a hydrogen-powered car.

Won’t that blow up like the Hindenburg?

I want Moose to win 20, pitch a no hitter agains the Red Sox, and win a W.S. this season.

And develop and HIV vaccine and a hydrogen-powered car.

No cure for cancer?  Pfft, weak.

WOE is always lurking

I was impressed that the guy with the beer interfered with play while not spilling any beer.

That’s my kind of guy.

But those are all things that he’s has come close to in his career. Fucking Carl Everett.

More than any of the other injuries this year the Posada injury really has me down because (1)he’s one of my favorite players ever and (2)having a C who hits like a 1B is a huge advantage.  Now that he is out I think it is imperative that we get Damon playing a good LF and another C to platoon w/Molina (preferably one who hits RHP since Molina is better against LHP).  Also, Sexton’s reputation as a masher of LHPs is greatly exaggerated so I’d also look to upgrade the 1B/DH platoon.  Some guys who may make sense and are on teams probably willing to deal:

1B/DH: Teixera, Sweeney (crushes LH and is better out of OAK), Nomar, Dmitri Young, Aurillia

C: Zaun, J.Valentin, Bengie Molina, Saltamacchia (will cost a lot but crushes righties), Laird (hurt but due back), Johjima, Ross, Olivo, Barajas, Shoppach, Buck, Barrett

Some CF who hit RH well: Kapler, Ichiro (Matsui+IPK for Ichiro/Johjima?), Vernon Wells, Rios, Freel, Winn, Pence, Byrd

Cashman should be able to acquire 2 of the 3: a platoon CF, 1B/DH, or C.

I’d trade IPK for Teixera contingent on us signing him within a 48hr window (unlikely I know). Having Teixera in our lineup with Giambi as DH would be great. Of course Matsui may in fact be able to come back.

And develop and HIV vaccine and a hydrogen-powered car.

Actually, I read an article in the local news today that Toyata had a hydrogen-powered car in Williamsport (right near where Moose lives), for a conference.  Perhaps he had something to do with it’s development?

Re #54 - I’ve always wondered that about the hydrogen powered car.  I’ll need to ask one of my sciency friends one of these days.

Won’t that blow up like the Hindenburg?

The Hindenburg used hydrogen for buoyancy, but for fuel. Presumably, the hydrogen-powered car would operate on different principles.

No cure for cancer?  Pfft, weak.

Gotta leave Matsui and Posada something to tinker with on the DL.

But those are all things that he’s has come close to in his career. Fucking Carl Everett.

It was a perfect game and yes, fuck Jurassic Carl.

Mussina the surgeon out there.

That should be “not,” rather than “but.”

Hopefully, the Yanks will produce lots o’ runs while I’m busy lecturing to my 2PM class.

Re #54 - I’ve always wondered that about the hydrogen powered car.  I’ll need to ask one of my sciency friends one of these days.

Supposedly the hydrogen fuel cells are no more dangerous than a gasoline tank.

“Matsui+IPK for Ichiro/Johjima”

Are you serious?

Presumably, the hydrogen-powered car would operate on different principles.

I’m just thinking of the energy density of hydrogen compared to a fossil fuel, and therefore what kind of volume would be required to be held in a tank in the car, and the potential for a huge explosion, say, in the middle of the Lincoln Tunnel. Could be bad.

The Hindenburg used hydrogen for buoyancy, but for fuel. Presumably, the hydrogen-powered car would operate on different principles.

I believe you are correct.  Hydrogen I think is an inert-gas.  There’s some danger based on the amount of pressure they keep it under in the tank, but it won’t easily ignite.  At least, that’s what I’ve been reading in articles when the question of saftey comes up.

Mussina is an artist.

the potential for a huge explosion, say, in the middle of the Lincoln Tunnel. Could be bad.

That’s why I always take the GW smile

Wow, Moose.  Just, wow.

Pags, Are you just listing players from teams?

Mike Mussina is a fucking assassin.

Mooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooose!

Man, i’m on a computer at work with no flash. Keeping up with auto refresh on yahoo sports is a bummer.

figures cano has our only hit though.

Oh, hydrogen will ignite ridiculously easily.  I use it all the time in the lab, you’ve got to be pretty careful you don’t spark anything around it.  Anyone who says that a hydrogen tank is as safe as a gasoline tank is bonkers, or suicidal.

Yankz: just threw it out there- Ichiro would be useful for us this year, a healthy Matsui would be useful for them next year as would IPK and both teams would keep a Japanese player.  I dont know much about Johjima but he’s having a bad yr.

There’s some danger based on the amount of pressure they keep it under in the tank, but it won’t easily ignite.

Alright then. I’m going with the electic car as soon as it is somewhat mainstream. Hopefully my car makes it until then, I’m thinking it’ll be around in the next 5 years.

Lets hope the rain holds off long enough for Moose to get W number 13.

I believe you are correct.  Hydrogen I think is an inert-gas

Hydrogen explodes; helium is an inert gas.

the potential for a huge explosion, say, in the middle of the Lincoln Tunnel. Could be bad.

That’s why I always take the GW

Hmmm.  I think an explosion there might be almost as bad, particularly in rush hour. (or any hour on that damn thing, really)

Moose’s ERA is at 3.38, the last time it was that low was in 2001 (which is a bit deceiving given that it’s a lower offensive environment, but still).

I don’t think the hydrogen cells they’re talking about would require a tank full of hydrogen gas. But I don’t know anything about this stuff. Chemistry and physics weren’t my bag.

There are several really big problems using hydrogen.  The energy density thing is a big one.  To get hydrogen to a usable energy density, you either have to liquify it or compress it a lot.  The energy it takes to get to either one of those states is about 40% of the energy you can get out of that hydrogen itself.  The other problem is how you get the hydrogen.  It takes energy.  Until we come up with fusion power, or a much much more efficient solar cell, I’d be very surprised to see a full-scale “hydrogen economy”.  Hydrogen is a currency, not a source of energy.

Lots o’ runs.  Now.

The Rays hit back to back homers with 2 outs to take the lead 3-2.

Fuck the A’s

Until we come up with fusion power, or a much much more efficient solar cell, I’d be very surprised to see a full-scale “hydrogen economy”.

Some dude came close to fusion but then the experiment went bad and he had these mechanical arms attached to his back.  He also went a little nuts.

Yeah, I think I saw that news report.  Octa-something, right?

I thought this whole hydrogen car discussion was pretty boring (in this context) until I started imagining it was Kay/Leiter/Flaherty having the discussion.

Wow, what a crappy way to ruin a promising inning.

Fuck Abreu. I hate that guy.

Fuck Abreu. I hate that guy.

He hit the game-winning homer less than 24 hours ago.

A fielder’s choice followed by a CS is just as good as a gidp right?

37 pitches for Perkins.

I guess WOE is not going to hit every day.

He hit the game-winning homer less than 24 hours ago.

He’s also the worst everyday starter on the team and making 16 mil. I don’t hate him, but there’s good enough reason to if someone wants to. Last night’s game wasn’t close enough to buy him a grace period I don’t think.

He hit the game-winning homer less than 24 hours ago.

If he weren’t such a soft player, he’d have hit the game winning home run in this game already.

Well I’ve learned a lot more about hydrogen today than I had planned too.

Hmmm.  I think an explosion there might be almost as bad, particularly in rush hour. (or any hour on that damn thing, really)

Open space allows the force the the explosion to disperse more gradually, etc.  If I was within a couple-hundred yards of it it probably wouldn’t matter anyhow…

There’s something to be said for an offense that scores the most runs for its worst starters.

Not sure what that something is, but it’s definitely something.

John Brattain Memorial Fund

The Hardball Times has set up a memorial fund for John Brattain's family. He left behind a wife and two teenage daughters.

Four years ago, I found from personal experience how generous the online community can be to its own in their hour of need. I am now literally begging you to be even more generous than you were to me.
