At this point, Sexson is sort of pointless, no? Seems like they should move on with that roster spot.  Maybe another arm in the bullpen to protect against a Rasner/Ponson implosion, although I suppose Giese provides that.

Just from casually watching highlights, it did seem that Quentin has been crazy hot - nice to know that was accurate.

And the Mets, wow, Delgado is on fire.

But yes, it’s great to see Cano hitting well.

Hey, folks, want some early Sunday laughs? Read Lupica’s column today, especially his part about how everyone would be talking about Mike Pelfrey if only he had a fun nickname like Joba.

Suuuuuuure.

12 pitchers on the active is a lot.  No?

Not if you feature Snacks and Rasner as 2/5 of your rotation.

Moeller giving Molina some days off?  Or the off days and such is enough to keep Molina somewhat fresh.  Just checking, Molina’s second half stats usually look pretty good too.

Mike Lupica may be the most despicable person alive.  Praying for another C before the deadline…

And imagine if Joba pitched in AAAA?

Indeed - look at what C.C. is doing to the poor National League.

Brett Gardner…still sucks.

Yeah, the sight of both Harden and Sabathia going to the NL and DOMINATING is hilarious.

I’ve been a casual reader of this site for a while now, but there are still several baseball statistics that are discussed that I don’t fully understand.  Is there a site, or some other source, that explains everything fully?

Thanks in advance.

At this point, Sexson is sort of pointless, no?

I think he has value as a RH bat off the bench.  As an everyday player, his value is very much limited.  But as a RH with some pop off the bench, he could come in handy down the stretch, especially considering the current state of this bench.

Is there a site, or some other source, that explains everything fully?

You can try the following glossaries:
Hardball Times
Fangraphs
Baseball Reference - Batting
Baseball Reference - Pitching

You can always ask in the threads too.  I usually put a legend with the charts for some of the more esoteric stats, but feel free to ask anytime you don’t know what a stat is or how it’s calculated.

Way back in the 20th century, Bill James wrote the first essential book about baseball managers. Chris Jaffe has just written the second.

From now on, whenever I have a question about a manager, Jaffe's book will be the first and last one I reach for.

John Brattain Memorial Fund

The Hardball Times has set up a memorial fund for John Brattain's family. He left behind a wife and two teenage daughters.

Four years ago, I found from personal experience how generous the online community can be to its own in their hour of need. I am now literally begging you to be even more generous than you were to me.
