I think Joba works like faeries. If enough people believe in him throwing strikes, he will.

Think strikes.

Joba’s throwing hard today, at least.

90-93 is hard?

Gameday has him from 90-96 Mostly around 93. I don’t know about hard.

Does Jon’s dog believe?  My cat is agnostic on the subject(and all subjects.)

He’s at 9 strikes and 8 balls. Not enough people believing.

Posada three games in a row?  Even after two wins?  Girardi must be trying to step on the neck of the Tigers and take them out of the WC race.

JObber is very annoying to watch.

Lester at 80 pitches through 4.

He really has to go 3-2 on every hitter.

Hallady needs to hold the line!

[4]  We haven’t been seeing 93’s, much less 96 in the 1rst.  Since his velocity generally builds, I’m hoping he’s consistently at 94-95 by the 3rd.

No a terrible IP.  Don’t like the walk, but the single was just a little jam job.

Twenty three pitches, two baserunners, same old same old?

Twenty three pitches, two baserunners, same old same old?

Believe damn it! Believe!

Alright, screw Joba. This sucks.

Couldn’t they have started Mussina in stead of Joba?

Gardner is playing CF and LF today.

Couldn’t they have started Mussina in stead of Joba?

Or combine them into one super pitcher: Jossina!

Here comes the obligatory “Joba to the pen” question to Gossage.

A balk, are you effing kidding me

The ridiculous amount of walks this starting staff yields is unnerving.

Marginally better inning.

Aren’t we second in the AL in walks yielded?

I heard Eiland say OBP is a bulls..t stat, only BA is meaningful.

[23] tied before today…with Detroit.

Suboptimal.

[24] Link or pointer?

2 strikes. In a row. Things are looking up.

28 made up

They let Halliday pitch against Boston?

Damn again

Was kind of hoping for a deja vu all over again game

Yesss…... and it counts

Hey, velocity!

It seems so wasteful to have a pitcher that can hit in the AL.

RISPy Robby?

TBS is only giving averages that seems… so ancient.

Nice crisp Yankee baseball

Scored a triple?? That’s stupid.

You can tell this is going to end well.

Joba K please

Yessss…now you can go back to the bullpen

Swisher owes Joba dinner.

Joba’s velocity this inning 91-97. What the hell? It’s just puzzling.

Arod has been the sum total of our offense since yesterday

Ron Guidry has a great accent.

I really like this version of Joba.

Joba deserves a W here guys.  Let’s do some damage.

I hate Gardner’s swing, looks almost as if he’s trying a back handed table tennis slam.  I suppose it was too early to PH there.

The T&A guys come through

Maybe should have just given that walk.

I love Teix and A-Rod.

Joba 7th with Aceves/Coke in BP;Hughes 8th

Joba 7th with Aceves/Coke in BP;Hughes 8th

I approve.

I love that Joba is coming out for the 7th.

RISPY Robby?

How much bad luck can a guy get?

He can’t beat the bad luck he had last year. That was unreal.

boooooo Girardi

[49] Yes, a much better version.

Halliday with a CG win against the Bosox.

[64] it worked out with Coke, but I would’ve liked to see Jobber finish the 7th - the stadium crowd agreed

my “why” was directed towards Girardi, not you.

Jackson and Verlander have amazing stuff. A series sweep would be most impressive, I think.

gotcha. so Hughes for 8th now I guess, with 3 RH due up. I’m looking forward to it.

[64] The K was his 108th pitch of the outing, tying his maximum, achieved on two other occasions.

Makes as much sense to me as anything else.

It wasn’t an unreasonable move but my heart wanted to see Joba finish the inning.

Question to TBS guy: why on Earth would the Yankees only want one run in this situation?

Girardi made the right move, IMO. Joba got to walk off the mound with the lead and a nice ovation. Had to be a good feeling for Joba, positive reinforcement and all that.

Haha I love how on gameday it says under Phil Hughes - Out Pitch: Premium

Yay, Yankees!

I think that I’m going to selectively focus on the pitching this series (which has been good and occasionally lucky) and ignore the hitting (which has been below average and occasionally unlucky).  I’ll stick with that selective focus and feel more confident that the pitching is getting it back together.

Yay!  Win

all these 1 run wins….noice!

Way back in the 20th century, Bill James wrote the first essential book about baseball managers. Chris Jaffe has just written the second.

From now on, whenever I have a question about a manager, Jaffe's book will be the first and last one I reach for.

John Brattain Memorial Fund

The Hardball Times has set up a memorial fund for John Brattain's family. He left behind a wife and two teenage daughters.

Four years ago, I found from personal experience how generous the online community can be to its own in their hour of need. I am now literally begging you to be even more generous than you were to me.
