head..hurts…
let’s win a game yo
runs please and not the GI type

I’m hoping Wang will cure my hangover blues.
at least it’s not sunny out.
4 strikeouts and 4 groundouts in 3 innings = 1 stiff Wang
the shittiness of that play offset how good melky continues to look at the plate.
One gets the feeling the Yanks will never get a hit with runners in scoring position…perhaps not until May. Melky does look good, though.
Sterling keeps blaming the Yanks hitting woes on the cold, but yesterday wasn’t cold and the weather certainly hasn’t kept the Rays from hitting.
Horrible AB by Jeter. The first 6 pitches were balls
The season so far is like “deja vu all over again.” I can remember more then a few times that we would go through these offensive malaises and made journeymen like Jackson and Sonnastine look like Maddox and RJ. But at least last year we could beat Shields. I predict we will score 3 runs today.

oooooooooooooooo that 1-0 change to Pena was a beauty.
Jeter had some horrible ABs yesterday
so was the 3-2
I love my Wang.

WANG IS DEALING

Give Upton credit for not swinging at that 3-2 change. It was filth. If Wang can consistently throw that pitch, he can win the Cy Young. Period.
But.. but.. Wang is just a flash in the pan! Everyone said that!
What happened to all those scouts who were “concerned” that Wang had been permanently shell-shocked after the last post-season?

I know everyone’s pissed we’re 2-3, but from an entertainment standpoint, this duel is pretty fun to watch. Shields is really an artist with that change-up. The Yankees better win though.
A-Rod is the man.

OK… how bout Matsui stays back on a change-up and gives us a 2-0 lead?
Finally. The Yanks really needed that.
An H-bomb for Hideki.
that fella’s got a nice swing
Godzilla!
At least Cano is having a decent at bat here. It’s a good sign.
cano is revving up
that’s so great
Great AB.
atone wilson, atone
This team has been going so many things wrong
hahaha. it’s always nice to get outsloppied.
It’s quite early, but Eric Duncan is raking at Scranton thus far. Obviously, it may not amount to anything, but it’s encouraging at least.
Wang is a monster.
anybody else think aybar tried to throw an elbow into posada’s chest?? that looked pretty suspect
Shields really does have Bobby’s number.
calling grand slam..
never mind
“Yankees threatened don’t get it done” No shit. Team batting 152 with RISP going into today’s game.
Beckett loaded the bases in the 5th with two outs, then Delcarmen came in and served up a slam to Frank Thomas. Pretty sweet.
that is sweet.
The Yanks better remember how to hit by tomorrow because Mussina is not going to shut this lineup down, cold weather or not.
very smooth play
Lets hope Moose is the only hole in this rotation
If Mussina remains a hole, there are plenty of candidates to supplant him. In any case, it’s nice to see Cano stinging the ball. It would be great to blow this one open so that Farnsworth can get some work.
cano is in pure battle mode all of a sudden.
Seems like things are back to normal, nice.
Why not PH Ensberg there? He is on the team for a reason isn’t he?
Leadoff double!!!
Seems like things are back to normal, nice.
If, by back to normal you mean 2 runs in 6 innings. Then its back to normal.
Thats just about what the Yankees are scoring this year.
Ensberg is a poor 1B and you don’t necessarily want him in there with Wang pitching. You perhaps make that move down a run or two but with a lead I would keep Betemit in there.
TB’s pitching reminds me of the Brave’s teams of the 90s except with a relief staff like the Yankee’s teams of the late 90s and early 2000s
Good point re Ensberg but if he only has value as a backup 3b he’s not terribly valuable on this team
Singleton and Kay are basically talking their way into the idea that this inning might be the most important inning of the game.
Nice to see this move from Girardi.
If, by back to normal you mean 2 runs in 6 innings. Then its back to normal.
Actually, I’ll take Yankees Runs > Rays Runs at this point. We can worry about the pythag stuff later.
!!!
Phew.
god I love robbie cano
Nice! Very Nice!
Joba rehabilitates the Chamberlain familly once sullied by Neville. Wonder if this guy might win a Cy Young award one of these days as a starter
Hey, there’s still time for Joba to hand over the Sudentenlands. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
Wow, MacDonald just had a sick play to rob Pedroia of single, then collided with Wells on the next play.
I’m not bothered by the offensive production so far- we’ve gone against great pitching teams- but I don’t think we’re going to have a lot games like this first week.

Very good AB for Alex there against Howell, despite the fly out… I’ve actually seen some good things from the offense, despite the continued ineptitude with runners in scoring position. That should balance itself out, though.
For some reason I’m really in the mood for Stolichnaya Russian Vodka.
Matsui’s been a monster today…. dare I say, a giant lizard capable of destroying Japanese cities?
Must be the wife!
C’mon Po this Thurston Howell guy is made to be beaten up
we had some game last year against howell where we just knocked his block off. there were lots of doubles.
What does Matsui’s wife think of his massive pr0n collection, anyway?
The offense had been fairly consistent: 3-2-3-4-3-2.
(assuming today’s score holds up)
That’s a mean of 2.83 and a standard deviation of 0.75.
the man-love i feel for mo rivera is powerful stuff
The pitching today was filthy.
3-3
Last season, the Yankees got to .500 at 31-31.
Nice.
So the RS just left two men on, down three in the ninth. They let the number nine hitter, Lugo, decide the game. Do they not have a bench?
Of course I missed the best game of the week.
Did see Mr the Hutts gunslinging.
Wonder what to name my next ForestKatt? Forest Hutt. JobaKatt?
Hard Wang humbles soft Rays.
Pornzilla goes Deep. Keeps a hard Wang in the groove.
DVR alert. Raging Bull on IFC at 2045 tonite. Some folks feel its a pretty decent film.
Last season, the Yankees got to .500 at 31-31.
And 3-3, 4-4, 5-5, 6-6, 7-7, 8-8, 10-10, 15-15, 16-16, 17-17 and 18-18 I believe. After 18-18 is where it really started to get ugly.
J I hate to be the voice of reason here. Truly. I’m so not worthy of that crown.
So for Chrissakes give them another week before jumping onto the looming iceberg.
AND THE LORD SAID….. LET THERE BE HITS…. And he saw that they hit and it was good.
We smack em around monday, humiliate the mighty Royals the rest of the week then kick the crap outta the Sam Adams Bitches.
It shall be fun.
BTW this Jesse James film I’m watching now is pretty good once you get past the first 45 minutes.
What I meant to say is we win 4 of the next 7 without breaking our Wangs.
Not having a Wang to start the season pretty much summed up the 2007 season.
Detroit could only score 2 runs tonight in a blowout (one was on a wild pitch that hit the ump in the head). Hit into 5 double plays. Is it bad to be enjoying it this much?
I just like how Phillips has just been ignoring it on Baseball Tonight.
Hey, look at it like this. If anyone told you that the Yanks were going to average less than three runs a game through the first six games, what kind of record would you expect them to have? I’m delighted they’ve won 3 games despite bad luck at the plate. This team is going to hit. Most of them are having good at-bats and balls just aren’t dropping in for hits. The defense has been solid, Wang, Hughes, Joba and Rivera have been excellent, and nobody in the AL East has done too much, except…hahaha….BALtimore. Yeah, it’s early all right.
Hey guys—wanted to apologize for disappearing off the planet—this last week has been insane, and I haven’t even seen the Yankees play since the regular season started. And I won’t for the next two days, either, as I have dinner engagements Monday and Tuesday night. *heavy sigh*
I really want to liveblog again, and I’m hoping the opportunity presents itself Wednesday night…............
I’m with Dave. If the Yanks win 6-4 tomorrow with Mussina stranding a few runners then all of a sudden we’ll all be feeling good about the first week. And that won’t mean jack either. Let’s just let ‘em play a little. I’m just glad that Detroit’s pitching has looked as fallible as I hoped it would be and that Boston’s young gun looks like he will have the same growing pains that our young pitchers are going to have.

and if they blow them out like 20-2 , we’ll complain that we’re underachieving out pythag record
So for Chrissakes give them another week before jumping onto the looming iceberg.
I’m not jumping onto any iceberg, just stating fact. This team looks a hell of a lot better than it did in 07.
well, the fact that they actually got the roster they had planned through a week intact in itself is a mega improvement over 07 start… hell forget about 1 week, how about just opening day ![]()
Carl Pavano opening starter anyone?
Remember this, too. Last year, the Yankee bullpen blew its first seven save opportunities. Every one of them.
What’s awful is that, much to my brain’s frustration and contempt, my heart is starting to sing the praises of Chamberlain in the bullpen. It’s tricky, too, because it starts bringing up the leverage of those late innings versus those of early innings and asking my brain to parse WXRL versus SNVAR, and conjures up images of Mo in ‘96. Stupid heart!
I think the trick there, Dave, is that we would have to believe that the other relievers, who are (besides the two overpaid veteran monstrosities) pitching quite well, would not be able to do a comparable job to Joba’s four innings this year.
And I don’t think that is the case, at this point. I would not be shaking in my boots if 08 Bruney comes in in a big spot, nor would I be freaking out if Britton, Albaladejo, Traber or Patterson came in in a big spot.
And that’s a far cry from last year.
