jack bauer really did say please a lot

The Royals are less bad than the Yankees are good.

No, wait, reverse that.

Sounds like Yanks have signed Lassiter and Cole is gone.

Indeed.  Lassiter was supposedly a signability guy, a lefty hitting SS with pop and strong arm but raw.  I wonder how he compares to say, Carmen Angelini.  In any case, it seems a bit odd that Bleisch is still unsigned as well.

Reads like it too.

I’ve been awaiting the return of “Whatever.”  Does that mean another 9-game winning streak (to be followed by a 5-11 stretch)?

Bleisch is another Boras guy, isn’t he?  That one will probably go down to the wire as well. As we’re not hearing how he’s suddenly dying to go back to school or something.

Honestly, it sounds like Cole and/or his family have some serious growing up to do.  If that’s the case, better that he gets that done in college.  It’s a shame to lose him because he’s so talented, but at this age, no one is a sure thing.  Hopefully the Yankees can put the comp pick to good use next year.

“Honestly, it sounds like Cole and/or his family have some serious growing up to do.”

How so?

How so?

Because the Yankees were led to believe that he was signable.  Other players who were in the draft and had no plans to sign informed all the teams not to draft them and thus waste their time/pick.  If Cole was so dead-set on going to college that he didn’t even want to listen to the Yankees’ offer, don’t you think it would’ve been a good idea to warn the teams ahead of time that he wasn’t interested?  The whole thing just played out very strangely.

I will admit that it’s not uncommon for a 17-year old kid to change his mind as to what he wants to do with his life, but that’s part of the maturation thing I was talking about.  If he’s not sure, let him work out his issues elsewhere.

Granted, there are still ~5 hours till the deadline so who knows.

Hmm, that seems rather a harsh take, but I’m not up on the expectations on both sides going into drafts.

As a lefty, Bleich is arguably more valuable to the Yankee system at the moment than Cole.  While Cole has a very high ceiling, the Yanks already have Betances, McAllister and Brackman - not to mention Brett Marshall.  The Yanks’ southpaw contingent is notably less talented - including the likes of Phil Coke, Chase Wright and Wilkins de la Rosa.

In Hughes defense he did seem to have some beers in the fridge as well as Mike’s Hard Lemonade.  Kennedy joked about his jersey being on Hughes’ wall soon- guess he’s off his high horse by now as this was filmed a while ago. Him and Hughes seem like a couple of SoCal flamers. These two dorks better be good. Joba’s much cooler.  I hope Dellin pans out- he’s a BK kid.

I kinda feel bad for the kid. He’s supposedly a pretty bright kid and now he’s getting shit for doing what he is supposed to do if he couldn’t throw the ball 95 mph. Sure the Yankees kind of get a bit screwed on it, whatever they’ll survive.

Clay, any chance you’ll wind up in class with him?  Probably not.

No chance. Don’t go to the same school. And I don’t really want to got to UCLA for grad school. Their writing grad program isn’t really my style.

Well, if he really truly wants to go to college because he wants to get an education, my hat is off to him.  However, if he’s just pulling this shit because he think he’ll get more $$$ down the road, not so much.

The only “shit” Cole is getting is from Yankee bloggers and message boards.  It’s not as if he has a squadron of media on his front lawn or anything.

yet.

I agree. But maybe he truly does want to go to college. and a Scholarship to UCLA is a pretty good deal.

Yo Gothamites. Hows the weather? Not so nice here in New Haven.

It’s hot in LA. But sunny. Has been for basically the whole summer.

Clay. I said Gotham not Sodom.

My mother called me to inform that there was a tornado(!) warning issued for later tonight in NYC.  Currently raining like the dickens.

I agree. But maybe he truly does want to go to college. and a Scholarship to UCLA is a pretty good deal.

Right, which is where the first part of my post comes in: if he wants to go to college, more power to him.

Get in the root cellar Dorothy.

I want to see Brett Gardner run through a tornado on the way to an inside the park, walk-off HR.

E, YM- The best bacon I have ever had is served at the breakfast places in Lancaster PA.  Sausages and scrapple. Pork Paradise.
Great nightlife too. You get crickets aaannndd lightning bugs. Lotsa bats too.

Hey IE. Howyaben?
Bitterly disappointed at Big Cat Diary on Animal Planet.
The cats don’t even write.

By the way, Chris Garcia had a nice outing in Tampa this afternoon: 5IP 2H 0R 7K 0BB.

All is well, Thurm.  What are you imbibing in these dark, tornado-ridden days?

Also, Montero already has a single and HR for Charleston thus far this evening.  That guy has to be the Yanks number one prospect at this point.  He’s absolutely dominating A ball as an 18 year old.

I could see Gardner’s inside-the-parker come on ball four as wild pitch in the tornado’s midst…..allowing the yanks to win 1-0 despite going hitless against Meche…..

Just a wee ale so far. I’m kinda fatigued and would like to catch the game.
Think it’ll happen?

If the game happens, it will start at at 10PM like a West Coast road trip.

Tarp off. Yay!!!! Lets go out there and win one for Chris THE TENNIS EXPERT Russo.

Kay just said Nady has a slugging % of 6….........................................................................................77 since joining the Yankees.
He was looking at homeruns and then someone nudged him.
Funny stuff.

Nice play Nimrod.

Jeter bunt = gun to the face.

Let the LOB in SP parade begin!

I hate this team.

Our name is WOE.

let’s go get a beer thoim’

I want a beer.

*sob*

why can’t you get a beer monk

Lets. Lets get many.
Hop the Train. I’ll get yuz at the station at 11.

Cuz it’s raining and I’m too lazy to actually go out and get one, plus drinking alone is not fun.

only if the monkey comes too. and hoadley

just go get yourself an OLde E. you’re not really alone. you’ve got mike kay, ross gload, and telnar. plus i’ll be ‘round til phelps swims and thurm and his katt will be chillin til the sun comes up

Hoadley won’t make it E. Unless he has an F-18.

x-nady makes me feel safe and secure somehow. like having a chainsaw under my pillow

Hoadley won’t make it E. Unless he has an F-18.

If only.

what kay meant to say: “nady just FEELS white”

Hoadley can run really fast, can’t he?  I’m sure he can make it with seconds to spare - Tyson Gay eat your heart out.

...it IS Tyson Gay, right?  I don’t follow t&f too closely…

his swing is ridiculous and stupid

yeah, Ussain Bolt is the WR holder right now though.

CMB (clutch molina bop) in t-21 seconds. i’ll be back after i gotta drop by the bodega

“Bolt”? Seriously?  Is that his real name?

“Bolt”? Seriously?  Is that his real name?

yeah, isn’t that great?

This is like Groundhog Day.

he’s also 6’5” and a 200 meter specialist. So he could conceivably break Michael Johnson’s record.

Oh.  My.  God.

If anyone need me, I’ll be in the fetal position.  Ugh.

Gardner needs to swing at pitches early in the count.  Pitchers are going to throw him a first pitch fastball to get ahead.  He has to do something with those pitches if he wants regular playing time.

C’mon did anyone not see that coming?

Ah yes, the retard Suzyn Waldman, after having reported that Hideki Matsui had been rained out in Tampa even though Pete Abraham had posted otherwise, is finally correcting herself.  Journalism doesn’t get any worse than these two.

How the hell is James Black only 28? it seems like he’s been playing as long as I can remeber casually following tennis.

Gardner can come over and dial in my landscaping issues Saturday.
E, YM , Clay and Frog will be passed out on the porch. You too IE.

Is anyone else’s MLB.tv not working? Not that I want to watch this garbage.

damn, Blake. I suck at typing and eating.

Hey Don. Come on up.

At least Gardner can play defense.

Cashman says Cole won’t sign.

Nice line for lefty Wilkins de la Rosa at Tampa: 6IP 5H 1ER 0BB 8K.  He’s a bit old for the league at 23 and a converted OF, but he’s lefty - perhaps with the highest upside of any southpaw in the system until Bleich signs.

2nd ale just poured.

How many men will the Yanks strand during this inning?  Tune in to find out!

perhaps with the highest upside of any southpaw in the system until Bleich signs.

probably a higher upside but a much lesser chance of reaching the MLB.

I’ll set the o/u at 3.

Here comes an inning ending double play.

Bleich has more upside than de la Rosa, but Wilkins has a higher ceiling than Phil Coke or Chase Wright.

ARod bomb. not clutch because there are either 2 outs nor is jeter in SP

This game reminds me of the game against Perkins where he struggled for two innings and then the Yanks went quiet as wee little lambs thereafter.

I’m listening to the best videogame music of all time compilation. Final battle from Final Fantasy II is pretty great!

It also has to be later than the 7th inning, Clay.

If Bleich doesn’t sign, somebody in the organization will have to answer.

Nah. George is out of the loop.

Wow, if gimpy Jeter can steal, this catcher has nothing.

god damn it! what is Jeter doing?

I will pose this question again (now that Walsh/Treanor are no longer present):

Beach volleyball: pointless Olympic sport or most pointless-est Olympic sport?

Giambi needs to get on base.

I love killing Nimrod but Meche is not pitching poorly.

10m air gun shooting.

when i was 12 i bought the final fantasy VII soundtrack. it is still fucking awesome

Baby Jesus weeps.

If the Yanks are playing this tight against the Royals, there’s no use in them making a run at the playoffs anyway.

When are the Olympics on?

Way back in the 20th century, Bill James wrote the first essential book about baseball managers. Chris Jaffe has just written the second.

From now on, whenever I have a question about a manager, Jaffe's book will be the first and last one I reach for.

John Brattain Memorial Fund

The Hardball Times has set up a memorial fund for John Brattain's family. He left behind a wife and two teenage daughters.

Four years ago, I found from personal experience how generous the online community can be to its own in their hour of need. I am now literally begging you to be even more generous than you were to me.
