RedSox (62-45) @ Yankees (66-42), Friday, August 7, 7:05pm **Game Chatter**
Lineups
Boston Red Sox
TBA
New York Yankees
TBA
I had to post this before lineups were available because I’m heading out, but using both teams’ standard lineups the Yankees’ probability of winning tonight is: 53.3%
Winning baseball games is important, but playing the game the right way is even more important. No one excels at that like Josh Beckett. If the Yankees can somehow beat him, they’ll not only get a win, but they’ll have done it by playing the game the right way. That sets an example for the children, who are our future. Teach them well and let them lead the way. Because of that, this game is really important. It’s more than just a game, it will shape the future.
Go Yankees.
Comments
SG, I think you are having the best season of your excellent RLYW career. It’s like a 28 year-old starting to look like a HOFer.
SG for MVB.
Cy Blog?
Children!..Children!
Future!..Future!
Are you ready for the children?
Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!
The future is coming!
Whoa! Whoa! Whoa!
RLYW is a true baseball oasis.
baseball needs to start now.
Not like that.
Ron Swoboda would have made that catch…
“Ruben Sierra would have made that catch.”
-Ruben Sierra
This kind of start…this is not my kind of start.
Fuck you Burnett.
If you’re going to pass Pedroia on four pitches, you might as well plunk ‘im
GITP would be nice here.
Nice DP…
[13] Almost…
If you’re going to pass Youklis on four pitches, you might as well throw all four over his head.
Fuck you Burnett.
Remember when either Larry or SG would break down Randy Johnson into the ‘bad’ Randy and the ‘good’ Randy… I’m getting the feeling that Burnett is coming dangerously close to that characteristic…
“If I can’t get my fastball over and I can’t use my curve.”
-Suzyn quoting AJ
What is Plan B then AJ?
[18] fortunately it seems that good burnett appears far more than good Randy and bad Burnett seems to be able to turn in decent outings.
Wow… Cano played that like an over-50 police softball league game…
1 hit, 2 walks 3 outs 15 pitches 0 runs. mind boggling.
Now THAT was battling, take note Joba (actually don’t).
Fortunate that Big Papi is dead.
[20] Let’s hope so…
the 33% strike percentage is worrisome.
[22] I think the term you were looking for is “mind-bottling”, you know like when your mind is stuck in a bottle.
If I could save mind in a bottle…
BTW, as i was leaving the game last night, a guy was selling T-Shirts that said “All it took was 86 years and this {a picture of a syringe}”
speaking of mind in a bottle any of you ever seen City of Lost Children? Very good, weird film.
From IMDB:
In an alternate reality, children are being kidnapped by strange cyclopses and taken to the laboratory of an evil scientist named Krank, who steals their dreams because he has never had any of his own. Elsewhere, an orphan girl named Miette is sent on robbery jobs by her keepers, a set of female siamese twins known collectively as Octopus. Miette meets a man named One, who is the strong man at the local funfair. Together they embark on a journey to find One’s little brother who has been kidnapped by the cyclopses.
Clay… you need to get out more…
Seriously.
[30] Heard really good things about it, just have never gotten around to it. Going back and plowing through The Wire and Deadwood for a second time each is quite time consuming.
Suzyn to John, “I know you don’t like stats, but (then she lists some Beckett stats). Then John goes on the next two minutes doing nothing but listing stats. Will someone please throw him in the East River.
[31] Director of Delicatessen and Amelie (and Alien 4) starring Ron Perlman.
The IMDB description really doesn’t do it justice.
Watching on NESN, Heidi Whatney is looking very delicious tonight…
I had no idea it was directed by the Amelie director, it’s becoming more intriguing by the minute.
[33] I know… i’m just jokin’... Many of those IMDB summaries are weak…
I liked Amelie
[36] the description is kind of accurate, but the plot/setting is almost indescribable. Its almost kind of like a weirder, less violent, French Pan’s Labyrinth, a bit less dark as well.
My recollection: great set design/production values, interesting ideas, rather overselfindulgent writing, after a while just tiresome - I had high hopes going in and was disappointed.
I enjoy more strike throwing Burnett much more.
Does anyone have the count of how many times A-Rod stikes out looking?
It’s definitely flawed, but I enjoyed it. If the stuff with the narcoleptic clones was cut down it would be much better.
Hey Clay, given that it’s a warm summer night, does the ice cream truck still come around your neighborhood?
hasn’t been around recently actually. Maybe it got busted.
I really dislike Beckett. On the plus side. Cano up next inning with no one on base.
“You know Suzyn we broadcast every inning of every game, and sooner or later there is going to be a groundball that Teixeira boots.”
-Jinx Master John Sterling
Posada with a bullet to 2nd…
So is Pedroia’s strikezone just too small for AJ to hit?
The elf now 14 for 21 on SB attempts, let’s hope no one informs him that he is hurting the team with his grutty baserunning.
Let’s not mention Cano’s SB%.
Much better to get to 2nd on one hit.
Cano owns Beckett. I am always amused by this.
Beckett is getting the low strike tonight…
Beckett now at 40 pitches…
Awesome.
Swisher is 2nd in the league in ‘pitches seen’...
C’mon Melky…
The Melkman delivereth and he taketh away…
Did he try to pull a pitch away? I was imagining a single to left before the AB…
That inning went to crap quickly.
[57]Sort of… It looked like he was going for the 3-run jack…
Apparently it take 5 strikes to get Youklis out.
Didn’t get the bottom of the zone that AB.
That was one of the prettiest double plays I’ve ever seen
Apparently it take 5 strikes to get Youklis out.
It looked more like six on Gameday. It took five to issue the walk. But Ortiz made it allllll better.
Well, in fairness it at least took five strikes to strike Damon out, too.
You know, it’s just about time for A-Rod to go on an absolute no-out-making tear.
I agree they should try a strategy where they stop making outs on offense.
If we could score a few runs here we’d be right back in this game.
Apparently it take 5 strikes to get Youklis out.
There’s an Onion article about that.
A-Rod 68 ABs without a HR is longest of his career…
Somewhat reminds me of this How the hell did Farnsy hold a 1-0 lead in Fenway?
Anyone here ever read Ender’s Game? It’s pretty excellent pulp sci-fi. In it, Ender learns how to make war as a child, performing war games with other bright kids. They do this zero-gravity-lazer-tag type of game where your suit freezes up when you get hit by the guy. Most of the other kids played it facing forward, aiming their heads and shoulders at their enemies, trying to shoot ahead of them. I call them the “Jerry Manuel” school of fighting. Then Ender figured that it didn’t matter if your legs were frozen, you could use them as cover as you “fell” through zero-g, hid behind your useless legs, and fired away at your opponents. I call this the “Manny Acta” or “Baseclogging” school of fighting, where you protect, at all costs, your outs. In this way, a good offense is a good defense. Defend your out!
[70] blind, retarded, two legged squirrel finds a nut, once?
[71] yes, there’s also been a movie rumored on and off again for something like 10 years.
“Anyone here ever read Ender’s Game?”
Anyone who reads any sf almost assuredly has. It’s got some of Card’s characteristic (deep) problems, and it’s not as good as the sequel, _Speaker For the Dead_, which is a masterpiece of the genre, but yeah.
Double steal ?
Let’s go Robbie. Defend your out!
Yeah, Speaker for the Dead was excellent.
Hmmmmm….. a 2-strike strike out…
Need some milk here.
In defense of the blind HP umpire, Beckett’s stuff ‘is’ filthy tonight…
Have Umps always been this bad? And they’re only now being revealed by gameday using Questec or is it just this year?
Cards first 10 or so novels are all pretty great. After that it’s spottier but most are still worth reading.
Before Questec, umps had ‘their zone’ and were more consistent. Now, it seems as if they feel that someone is looking over their shoulder…
Out: defended!
Time for Jeter to act…. well…. Jeterian…
That sucked…
Bummer.
Okay, it’s uh, Nick Green here. Strikes, please.
Five walks…
Un-freakin’ believable!
We now deserve to lose this game.
A walk to Nick Green and catcher’s Interference…
You can’t make this up…
Nice. Big K there.
I loved Youklis in Con Air.
Hellz yeah.
I freakin’ loved Ender’s Game when I was in middle school. I should read it again now that I’m slightly less dumb.
I loved Youklis in Con Air.
I though he was better in The Hills Have Eyes.
I think A-Rod crushes one coming up.
Off topic:
Any chance the Yankees are the mystery team that has claimed Alex Rios off waivers?
You can’t make this up…
Or predict it!
[98] - Highly doubt it. If Cash couldn’t add salary for Halladay or Bannister, I doubt Hal approve it for Rios.
