Reading that lineup was akin to getting kicked in the junk.

Hard.

Moose better be pretty much perfect because these fellas, despite what I’m sure are many fine qualities away from the park, are not a run scoring bunch.

4th place here we come…

They’ve never face Justin Masterson before… well, I’m not sure how much more pathetic the offense can be. Can the lineup put up runs for the opposing team when it’s the Yankees’ turn at bat?

I think today will be the day where I no longer concern myself w/ the Yankees making the playoffs in 2008.  Sure, i’ll still follow the team (especially Joba starts), but it will all be with an eye towards 2009.  Are there any playoff teams that could use guys like Abreu, Giambi, etc?  and would they be willing to offer something better than the two draft picks we could get when they leave?

sidenote:  this lineup is terrible.  The top of the order should be Abreu, Jeter, Arod.  There’s no need to put a poor hitter at the top just b/c he’s fast.

Rather have Betemit at 1st than Posada? I don’t get it.

.500 here we come.

kronic —What about when Hughes starts?

Go Yanks!

Abraham said Posada is not feeling well enough to play.

We play today, we win.  Das it.

Walk Manny.

There’s no need to put a poor hitter at the top just b/c he’s fast.

You want someone at the top of the lineup who can get from the batter’s box to the dugout really quickly.

I always wonder why, when a pitcher wants to not pitch to someone, they don’t just plunk them.  Not like with a 95-mph FB, but a soft breaking ball of some sort.  Saves time AND pitches.

You want a Yankee to hit Manny?? Sacrilege!

Yanks double parked.

Ooooh yeah, that’s what I’m talkin’ about!  Way to swing those bats, Yankees!

Look! Baserunners.

You know what that means? Men LOB.

Nyah nyah, Don smile

Reverse jinx. Worked for one run anyway.

.500 here we come.

Kid can’t buy a hit.  Bleh.

Gardner always struggles in a new league. But you can’t learn to hit ML pitching in AAA.

can someone explain why prince fielder is going to be traded in the offseason?

Amazing, simply amazing.

OK, Don, you were right.  It’s another LOB parade.

can someone explain why prince fielder is going to be traded in the offseason?

Because Ken Rosenthal said so?

The Brewers have some top prospects - and isn’t Fielder gonna appear in Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade?

Giambi, either hot or cold, and he’s cold again.

Manny hit again.  Hmmmmmmmmm.

so there are three of us on this board?

Gardner’s promotion lit a fire under Melky.

Two…. I have to go.

Go Yanks!

I’m here.  The Yankee offense is still MIA.

Molino can’t get out of Moose’s way but he can sure throw.  Prowess-y!

I just tuned in or is this the same game I’ve been watching most of the time since we last played Cincy and it seems like the optimal strategy for the other team is just to let the Yankees load the bases.

Pitch to Manny?

Are they saying Moooooooose or Moooooo-urns?

Two on one out and Molina and Chauncey Gardiner coming up

Very clever Mr. Molina

Holly cow White he got it out of the infield

Might be nice time for DJ to hit that elusive 200th homer…

Or a gapper double-not to be

Brett Gardner is my favorite scrappy player.

Hi Guys. Hoping WOE could score more than one there.
Moose manning up bigtime today. So far…....

OTF, it’s WOE, you can’t ask much of them.  Moose da man today, although I was disappointed not to see him back out to start the 7th.

Please Veras . Shut these Foxy Ladies up.

Wow! Pulls Mussina wit only 89 pitches. I don’t care if that move turns to be right, because it sucks.

Yes YM I thought another inning was in order also.

Just got home, can I just say:  Mooooooose!  This team has been missing a good start.

This ump loves Veras. I love this ump.

This ump loves Veras. I love this ump.

Ergo, you love Veras?

Yes I do. Vtek sit and STFU.

Ergo, you love Veras?

Psh. Your syllogism is somewhat flawed. Glavin.

Psh. Your syllogism is somewhat flawed. Glavin.

Hush.

Gosh I wonder who will pitch the 8th for the Yankees?  Best hope Farnsie only gives up one.  Jack Buck is really explaining that Pontoon is merely getting loose for a future strar(ugh) and not coming in today

Gosh I wonder who will pitch the 8th for the Yankees?

LaTroy Hawkins. Duh.

In spring training do the Yankees ever practice the concept of adding on?

God save us, it’s KK in to pitch.

I’m confident.. I’m lying. I’m afraid.

Ouch, Molino is really taking a beating today.

injury delay?

Pedroia did that on purpose.

Fouled off Molina?

I would once again like to register my dissatisfaction with the national blackout rules. If the game isn’t the one that’s on your local FOX station, you should be able to get it on mlb.tv.  I hate the Cubs.

Fouled off Molina?

Nailed him right in the side of the neck or the jaw.  Luckily the mask cushioned it a little bit, but still had to hurt like hell.

I’m actually not sure Julio Lugo counts as a defensive substitution, no matter the circumstances

Did Buck say Grizzled Veteran yet?

I’m actually not sure Julio Lugo counts as a defensive substitution, no matter the circumstances

Well, presumably it’s better to have him in there than just leave the SS position on the field empty.  Besides, “defensive substitution” doesn’t necessarily equal “defensive improvement.”

I’m not convinced Sean Casey isn’t the same caliber shortstop as Julio Lugo

That is true.

Mo is going to have to earn his money today.  Go Mo!

Fuckfuckcfuckfuckityfuck.

This sucks…

How can you hit Manny 3x in one game.  Should be mathematically impossible

But, but, but, This is a save situation!

How can you hit Manny 3x in one game.  Should be mathematically impossible

Especially when it’s someone with control as good as Moose doing it 2x.  Maybe he just got tired of being a pinata?

What the fuck?!

god. dammit.

i hate this game

When was the Mo/Farns Face/Off operation?  I’m so confused/angered!

I’m back, for this?

Mo dedicating this inning to John Wetteland and the Memorial “Make It Interesting” Save Foundation.

I think Mo was upset Chacon was upset and wanted to give him a tribute

HO-LY SHI-IT.

Was that really necessary, Mariano?

Anyway…..

Oh good, Mo is the best, because if that was his plan, it was interesting.

Swear to god I’m naming my first-born Mariano 42 Rivera Greatest Closer In The Past, Present and Future of Baseball.

Even if it’s a girl.

ESPECIALLY if it’s a girl.

Go Joba!

Thank god for Julio “defensive substitution” Lugo

I think Gardner is going to settle in well, just try to overlook that ugly sub .100 batting average for now.

Fuck, shit that was no fun until the end.  I’m all for hitting Red Sox hitters after chickenshit PimpleBum threw under Jeter’s chin yesterday for no reason but not in the 9th inning of a close game.

Thanks for the stress test Mo. We passed.
Hebrew Nats just went on the Weber. Ya’ll invited . Plenty of Ale. Me happppeee.

Wow, we didn’t even make it to 100 comments today, and in a Yanks-Sox nailbiter too!

I’m having a glass of wine to calm down.  Part of me wishes I didn’t see that last inning.

By the way, I like Gardner too.  He may very well be up for the duration.

I hope you guys are right about Gardner but I guess I just don’t see what you see.  Right now I much prefer Melky.

By the way, I wasn’t impressed by Masterson at all.  If the Yanks were not hitting like middle-school girls, they would have roughed him up.  Boston would be far better off trotting Buchholz out there.

As I said earlier, Gardner’s promotion lit a fire under Melky.

Gardner always struggles in a new league. But he has always wound up improving his OBP after settling in.

Way back in the 20th century, Bill James wrote the first essential book about baseball managers. Chris Jaffe has just written the second.

From now on, whenever I have a question about a manager, Jaffe's book will be the first and last one I reach for.

John Brattain Memorial Fund

The Hardball Times has set up a memorial fund for John Brattain's family. He left behind a wife and two teenage daughters.

Four years ago, I found from personal experience how generous the online community can be to its own in their hour of need. I am now literally begging you to be even more generous than you were to me.
