While I understand sitting Gardner against a lefty I do think I’d rather have him in the lineup rather than Melky whom I doubt will be getting a hit from the right side anyway. At least Gardner brings speed tot he lineup.
Considering how well Gardner hit lefties at SWB this season, I don’t really understand him not playing, although Girardi said that Melky has been hitting in bad luck.
Even if he has been hitting in bad luck, he has looked awful. And it is one thing if there is no ready replacement, but come on, Joe, Gardner has looked good at the plate!
Girardi said Pontoon woould get another start. Who would be our best of a bad lot as the best choice for the 5th spot in the rotation? IPK? Geise? Kei? Pontoon? Karstens?
Definitely IPK.
"Who would be our best of a bad lot as the best choice for the 5th spot in the rotation?”
Forfeit & rest everybody.
Girardi said Pontoon woould get another start. Who would be our best of a bad lot as the best choice for the 5th spot in the rotation? IPK? Geise? Kei? Pontoon? Karstens?
Sticking just with those, I’d go IPK, Giese, Karstens, Kei, Ponson, in that order. I think the order the Yankees are going - at least for right now - is Ponson, Giese, Kei, IPK, Karstens. Performance of each over the next week will probably change that…
IPK isn’t in the “bad lot” category in the first place.
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, LET’S GOOOOO!!!!
Bad luck?
Yeah, that’s it, bad luck. Like the killer DP the other night.
Clueless Joe. Does Melky have [compromising] pictures of Girardi or something?
Could mlb.com have put up a worse picture of Pettitte?
LETS DO THIS!
ugh.
I predict a Manny 3 run homer.
There isn’t another player on the Red Sox that I’d get more pleasure from punching in the face than Pedroia.
Jeter you freakin’ asshole.
COME THE FUCK ON! THANKS FOR BLOWING THAT GIFT JETER
umm guys its really important to start playing well now
That is disgusting. Gardner for shortstop.
I was waiting for them to find a way to blame the error on Cano.
Fuking Jeter
absolutely disgusting
That was the most routine of routine thows. very VERY frustrating. And Damon fucking is a joke when he throws.
*sigh*…
I’m about to have a fucking stroke I’m already going ripshit.
"There isn’t another player on the Red Sox that I’d get more pleasure from punching in the face than Pedroia.”
Pappelbon?
I’d rather punch Youkilis.
Oh my god fucking shoot me. Where was the fucking cutoff man. You
I’ve always wondered what the fuck does Youkalis think he’s doing when he spreads his hands so far apart on the bat when hes getting ready to hit? other than looking like a total retard who’s never held a bat.
Those runs aren’t even unearned because you can’t assume the double play, I think. Jeter deserves an assfucking with a rusty saw.
Jeter is such a loser.
Its alright we have a 5 game lead and the pitching matchup tomorrow favors us big time so if we give this one away its no big deal
And how many pitches is this adding to Andy’s arm. Thank God Cano was throwing that one and not Captain Douchefuck.
The runs will be earned, Kay. Can’t assume the DP (I don’t agree that you can’t assume an easy throw first get to an extra out on the play)
I’d rather punch Youkilis.
Oh yeah, toss up. Papelbon is up there too.
I can’t remember the last time 2 first inning runs made me so bad. A hugely important game for the team to play well in, Pettitte gets a routine DP grounder from one of the best hitters in baseball, and our sad sack, can’t even outhit his own defensive suckitude playboy “Captain” airmails it into the fucking dugout for no conceivable reason. Not a rush play, not hard slide, nothing. There are very few times when I say I could have made that play, but I could have made that play. Revolting and embarrassing. An absolute disgrace. FUC
Yanks go down 1-2-3 here, just because it will screw over Andy even more.
Pitching a no no against the Royals does not fucking count.
The error was given because Ramirez advanced to second. I don’t know how that affects earned runs.
Damon walk and Jeter DP here? Or bunt?
time for a patented DJ DOUBLE PLAy
Jeter’s throws have been so terrible this year, it makes me wonder if there’s something amiss with his elbow.
OK, I spoke to soon. But Jetes will promptly ground into the 4-6-3 in classic Captain fashion,
Im gonna go with the 1-6-3
That might make one of the runs unearned, since Manny would not have scored on Lowel’’s single.
That looked like a strike to Jeter. Wow.
I sure hope the Sox dish out a long contract to Vtek after this season.
alright, here we fucking go!
love arod up here
whoops check that my bad
alright, here we fucking go!
I will continue to be negative here. Its led to two baserunners.
Here comes the 4 unassisted triple play.
fuck your couch lugo
Stupid play by Lugo.
Lugo is stupid. 5 steps to the bag.
53. Hahaha indeed
Abreu’s stats are better then my impressions of his effectiveness
agreed.
13 registered users on right now and 13 at the plate. Of course a strikeout.
Did we really think the Yankees would score with men on base?
Fucking fabulous. Im going to end up breaking everything in-front of me tonight it looks like.
in the stache we trust
Those two ABs microcosms of the season. Arod has had a lot of bad ABs runners on 3rd less then 2 outs
so bad
Fuck this pussy ass team. There fucking no shows when it counts this year.
Kay is tooting Lester’s horn for getting out of that. By now you’d think he’d realize that the Yankees epitomize the term ‘epic fail’ in such situations.
"How about Lester?” How about the fucking Yankees inability to capitalize on 2 on, none out, two quasi lucky calls, our 3 and 4 hitters up. Remember all those years when you just KNEW that someone would do SOMETHING big in an important situation
Where have you gone last year’s Clutchrod
how the HELL do you walk Varitek!!!!!
Walks a guy who forgot how to hit-perfect
Did he just walk Varitek on 4 pitches? Did that really happen?
Rasner vs Beckett tomorrow, how big is this game?
Don’t blame Pettitte for screwing up here, though. He’s distracted by all the thoughts of murdering Jeter.
Is Survivor Upper Volta on tonight?
If he’s going to be this wild can he at least hit somebody and give me my money’s worth
Yankees suck. That is all.
hahaha jacoby is so gay
WOE is back in all its glory. Wait and watch.
At least I get to hear Remy and Orsello calling the game. They are pretty good.
Posada.
Weak, man, weak.
Jeter fucks up the first inning and then Abreu and Arod bail out Lester who was ready to shit his pants. But nevermind because we’ll probably lose 3 out of 4 and score 25 in the win and everybody’s stats will get healthy. It sure seems like our standard deviation of average runs scored per game is awfully high
Remember when people on this board were making fun of The Twins for valuing Lester as much as Hughes? Who wouldn’t trade Hughes for Lester right now? I’m tried of this Yankee team shitting the bed in important games...and that includes Jeter and Pettitte.
more fucking bullshit.
so pathetic
this seems like its gonna be one of those games where everybody is just gonna swing for a longball and screw tryin to get on base
Oh Michael Lester is so “impressive” and its so rare that that adjective can be used against an opponent’s starting pitcher this year
Wow thanks for coming up big in this one Pettitte, fuckin ass.
alright lets build on this
Right now I’m way more inclined to blame Jeter, Abreu and Arod the latter two who could easily have undone Jeter’s damage
dont worry guys, Melky will start off a rally!!!
I agree blames on Jete for the big E and bobby and Arod for having no spine but pettitte is all over the fuckin place.
well that was unexpected by Melky. followed by a 1 pitch out by Damon… lovely.
I’m stunned.
fuck you Jeter seriously. Your one of the biggest problems on this team.
jeter did not appear to be hustling on that play
Jeter’s “WARNING, AGING PLAYER IN DECLINE” indicators are alarming bad right now.
Theyve already quit.
god i hope mike and the maddog are off the air soon
Over the course of n games, I wonder how many runs Damon-Jeter-Abreu-ARod costs versus D-ARod-Giambi-Posada, or othersimilar lineup where Jeter and Abreu get dropped.
O CAPTAIN! my Captain! our fearful trip is done;
........
Fallen cold and dead
count me among people suprised damon got it to 2nd in the air
Posada can’t throw.
games like this make me happy i dont have a wife or kids because I would surely be beating them right now
pmacker: Mike and the Pooch, while stupid, aren’t nearly as irritating as Carton and Boomer in the AM. Come to think of it, Kellerman, JodyMac, and Brandon Tierney are the only tolerable voices on the AM dial...oh, and Jim Rome- he’s great. So tired of this spineless Yanks team.
The red sox are so much better at baseball in general than us. it makes me sick.
Kellerman has a lot of baseball knowledge but he’s so egotistical and worse he’s such a shill
pags- i too like the espn guys i used to listen to carton and boomer when they first came on and carton wasnt such a douche now hes almost unbearable. The best tho was Star and bucwild, which has since been taken off the air because star said he wanted to piss on another dj’s kid
attaboy tinman
At least Abreu will be gone at the end of the season.
bobby will probably be type A right?
Glad to see Posada is our catcher for the next few years. Unless you make him the DH and then find a suitable catcher.
Then they only have to find a spot for Giambi and Matsui. A logjam is a nice thing to have in the rotation. At DH? Not so much.
poor widdle dusty
whats the all time low for comments for a game this season? bc this might set it.
Star and Buch were solid- I’ll give you that. I was just talking sports talk but if you want to go there, there is really nothing non-sports to listen to. Howard was usually good for a few big laughs but Opie and Anthoney are just a couple of idiots pretending not to be copying Howard. So now I just use Bloomberg news as my alarm clock.
This team sucks.
The way this team plays I think we all get to thinking about 2009 every other day. So this is one of those times when your thoughts start drifting to 2009. So we have someething like $80M coming off the books. I hope we sign Teix and let Giambia walk- would you prefer Burell or Abreu in RF? Can Burrell play RF? I think he is a bad glove and friends in Philly tell me they’ve seen him around town absolutely piss drunk on many occations- not sure NY is the beest place for him. So assume we sign Teix and Abreu (no more than 2/yrs, $11M per) we can have a lineup of: Posada, Teix, Cano, Jeter, ARod, Damon, Gardner/Melky, Abreu, and Matsui DH with- hopefully- AJax forcing himself into the mix around this time. A staff of Wang, Joba, Pettitte, Moose, and Hughes/IPK/Horne/etc. with Cox/Melancon/Veras/Ramirez/Robertson supporting Rivera. If you add Sabathia and subtract Pettitte and/or Moose then that is a formidable front three that will allow the back 2 to emerge.
AND THE GEISEMAN DELIVERSSSSSS
but yea pags I think ur pretty much right on I still think if we carve out a specific role for ohlendorf he can be very successful as his pure stuff is very very good. I think hes actually gonna be pitching as a starter in the minors for the time being
arod to tack on a meaningless HR
orrrrrr not
Just stopped in to say argh.
o god the boston sucks chants are the WORST
nothing makes you look more ignorant or more of an asshole than chanting boston sucks while getting killed at home
Yes Frog. Me too. Nice Andy mask Mr Igawa had on tonight.
Anyone ever watch game 6 of the 2001 WS?
I picked a fine night to have “music” people over instead of sports people.
They are saving my sanity right now.
Not even Comma Guy darest show his face.
Things are getting lonely. Single guys/gals have forgone the game and headed to their nearest place of drink. Or changed the channel. Either way, a blog is no place to spend a Friday night. Unless you have kids sleeping at home and no babysitter.
Like me.
I guess I’ll ask myself: what to do with Jeter and Posada? Unless he gets lucky with surgery, I’m thinking Posada’s days at catcher are over. Unless the Yanks like the way he calls a game and don’t mind teams running. Jeter needs a new home. I think his days as a servicable SS are coming to a close. Matsui will need to be a full time DH.
So you have Matsui and possibly Posada lined up as your DH. Can you afford to keep Giambi and have three DHs on the team? Do you put Posada at first? Do you try Giambi at first full-time? Both are pretty old to be playing first base full-time.
I drank the kool-aid when they resigned Posada. But I’m thinking they should have let him go. I hope they remember the risks of signing older players when they feel tempted to resign Giambi.
Conkles - your handle amuses me. It reminds me of the term cankles.
I knew Kay was going to say “anemic” before he did.
this was probably the most depressing game i have ever had the displeasure of watching we looked absolutely disheartened and could not have played with less life
I popped Lawrence of Arabia into the DVD player at 2140. This is a form of self imposed torture I feel compelled to experience simply because The Yankees are consumed with ruining our holiday.
I’d like to take Pettite to a Korn show to torture him.
Yatt, I think we’ll have about four, maybe five DHs next year. Sure, the team’ll give them a glove and tell them where to stand for half the inning, but we won’t really expect anything. If they can track a ball a little or stretch for an errant throw on a force now and again out it’ll be an unexpected bonus, sort of like that time Wade Boggs pitched an inning and actually did alright. (Aside: I’ll bet Wade’s arm is in fine shape since it has almost zero miles on it. He should pitch the 8th. Seriously, he’s got a career ERA+ of 123.)
So Jeter, Posada, Giambi, Matsui, and Damon will have to play some combination of first, corner outfield, and DH. And short of course since Jeter will never relinquish it. Ever. You know how Prince Charles has been waiting his whole life to be king, something like 50 years? Jeter is Queen Elizabeth. He’ll bury us all.
Can you tell I’ve been swept up in a malaise?
*Sigh*
Bring back WOEEEEEEEE plz until they either clinch the playoff or mathematically eliminated.
Wow, they bad.
Nothing beats the joy and rapture of experiencing tonight’s futility first hand. Not even an elective root canal.
I don’t understand why root canals get such a bad rap. It really wasn’t that bad. I’d take a root canal over getting my wisdom teeth out any day. Sitting in the waiting room after the procedure drugged out of sorts with blood dripping out of my numb mouth was less than fun… sort of like watching the game tonight.
I wonder who will tell Jeter that he is an ex-SS? Because this is something the ownership, and whoever is GM in 2009, needs to address. Amongst other things.
Jeter 2010, his last year a Yankee? Maybe new ownership by then as well.......
No expensive starting pichers, they are not worth $150 million.
So Giradi held a 30 minute post game closed door meeting. This team needed that against the Bosox?
If they’re bad, let them be bad all year. Any furious comebacks in the second half will only delude fans and the ownership into thinking the core group of guys are still the CORE GROUP OF GUYS. This is an old team. Cashman’s known this for a couple of years now, and I think he’s been addressing it with cold compresses and band-aids rather than radical surgery in deference to the Jeters, Posadas and Marianos being in their prime. I think not trading for veteran help last year at the trading deadline was great, not trading for veteran pitching and signing them to long and untradeable contracts was even better. We all thought the answer this coming offseason would be a first baseman and a starting pitcher, but I’m not even sure that’d be enough to bring this team to a championship level. I’ve been advocating for blowing this team up since about three years ago… it’s never too late to rebuild.
as much as people talk about rebuilding, this isn’t a team you can rebuild and baseball, unlike the NBA & NFL is much harder to rebuild in due to the draft/minor league system. Furthermore, the team is unlikely to undergo serious change due to contract length and even those guys who are willing to be traded are either (a) having down years or (b) old rental players who won’t bring much in the way of young quality in return. Like it or not the rebuilding is going to have to come from within and calling up players from the minors just to get them major league experience isn’t rebuilding, the minors exist to get them acclimated at an appropriate rate.
