Rays haven’t had a day off in a while, which may be why Glover was in there.
Haters to Melky. Its called a bunt stupid. You are a 23 year old baseball player.
Learn how to lay one down.
After an extended bottom of the eighth I’d be really surprised if Andy came back out. I’d love to see it but if I was managing I wouldn’t let him pitch the ninth.
Abreu and Iwamura were talking after that play. What language were they speaking?
stupid drew+manny.
Andy was at 114 pitches after 8. I would’ve taken him out regardless of the inning length or score.
In-sur-ance Runs! Clap Clap! Clap Clap Clap!
I’d rather Boston lose, but eh, at least Minnesota is ahead of the Yankees, too.
Stupid Twinkies.
Instead of signing the Latroy Hawkins’ of this world we should put that $4M or so in an E-Savings account until draft/sign time. We still have a huge financial edge- we can raise the bar when we need to. Did I mention that ever since this offseason I HATE the Twins. My most hated: Sox/Mutts, Angels, Dodgers, Twins, Marlins, Cubs.
Stupid Twins.
I’d rather Boston lose, but eh, at least Minnesota is ahead of the Yankees, too.
Most seasons, I’d just try to figure out how difficult it would be for the Yankees to get to 95 wins and not worry too much about the other teams until September. It might take more year.
It’s quite early to watch the scoreboard in my opinion. If the Yanks take care of business, the standing will sort themselves out.
I don’t ever like seeing people wearing Red happy in Fenway Pahk. I just hate those people.
By the way, I love how Waldman says the Red Sox are worried about Varietk hitting .211 but then adding, “he’s the heart and soul of that team.”
You need another hobby, Pags.
The Dodgers? The CUBS???? What’s wrong with you?
Longest. Cano. AB. Ever.
IE: I’m of the same mindset in regards to the Yanks taking care of business being what matters, but my curiousity always gets the best of me about this time of year.
I hope Betemit is taking note of this at bat.
Cano has had some great at-bats tonight and so has the rest of the team for the most part. More insurance!!!
In-sur-ance Runs! Clap Clap! Clap Clap Clap!
pags, you need to buy a warm fuzzy animal and care for it, lovingly.
Quite the at-bat there. That should help the P/PA.
Did Meacham actually send Posada there?
Wow lay his ass out. that was the time for payback for that spring training bush league bullshit.
Posado running the bases. Can some one explain what happen there?
Why not replace Posada with a pinch runner in this situation?
No way the Yanks can win tomorrow. Settle for the split.
I hope tomorrow’s lineup doesn’t have Melky or Gardner leading off. I’d go Jeter, Abreu, ARod, Cano, Giambi, Posada…
If this team plays big games in Sept. and beyond, Meacham could turn out to be a problem.
Fuck me. Cano is so awesome. Why can’t he be awesome all the time? He’s so obviously a natural hitter that it’s just stunning how he can not hit for months and months and then hit like .500 for the same amount of time.
And. Um. Send Posada? WTF?
Baseball Prospectus rated all of the baserunners in MLB last season. Juan Pierre was first. Guess who was last.
You’d be right.
Pags- I’ll lend you Thurmm The Norwegian Forest Katt but you have to hide your neighbors dogs. Unless you can afford to buy them new ones.
The Yanks can certainly win tomorrow if they give Ponson the 13.5 runs they are averaging in his starts. Also, Edwin Jackson is just not that good. The Yanks used to beat him to a pulp last season. They’ve seen him before lots of times. There’s no reason they can’t knock him around.
I have no illusions about Ponson being decent, though. Unfortunately, IPK was less than impressive at Scranton tonight.
I like the Dodgers if for no other reason than Vin Scully.
I vacillate back and forth on the Cubs - their fans are mostly insufferable, and VERY bandwagon-y. And Wrigley Field is a total dump. That said, they were on TV everyday where I used to live, and I listened to them on the radio at work several times a week. And you have to feel for their fans (the 20-25% of whom are legit).
If this team plays big games in Sept. and beyond, Meacham could turn out to be a problem.
That comment gave me a Mike Ferraro flashback.
I’ll explain. Dodgers: Dodger Stadium is over-rated, LA is lame and so are Dodger fans, and Didger Dogs are terrible. Cubs: that loveable loser thing reminds me of The Mutts and is annoying- I almost moved there and decided I’d root hard for the ChisSox if I lived there. Marlins: nonsense organization/fandom but had talent to be force dominating hated Mutts in NL East but instead traded their talent to Metts and Satan (Boston). I really only HATE two teams: Mets and Red Sox. Angels are close but others are just a strong dislike.
For my money, Boston fans are easily the most obnoxious. I don’t wish them death or anything though - just lots of losses.
great game
Nice win.
Who was that terrible third base coach the Red Sox had a few years back?
What a waste of 4 perfectly good runs.
Wang’s injury has really killed this team. After all, a front four of Pettitte, Mussina, Joba and Wang would have been quite formidable - especially given how good the bullpen has been.
Solid.
How many Yankees do you reckon Kim Jones has blown?
This team should be happy with a split. Take tomorrow off boys. Keep WOE alive.
Also, Edwin Jackson is just not that good.
He was one of, if not the, best pitching prospects in baseball less than five years ago. Yeah, I, too, think he’ll come back to Earth, but it would not shock me if he does not.
The Aruban Outrigger shall triumph.
Well at Nathans he shall.
Wavin’ Wendell Kim.
By the way, Kennedy’s line from tonight: 84 pitches, 4IP 5H 2ER 3BB 4K. He’s not going to get called up with those sorts of performances. Right now the team’s hottest minor league pitcher is Dan McCutchen.
Pags is beyond the help of a living pet. Stuffed animal and a padded cell, maybe.
What a great game. Great great great great great. Great.
Corey Patterson was once one of the best prospects in baseball, too. You can’t read too much into that stuff.
Jeez Pags. There are other sites for those speculations.
I rescind the Katt offer.

Enrique Wilson was a high level prospect. Enrique Wilson.
Besides, most if not all of the Yanks can do much better than Kim Jones.
@342 Dale “Send Em” Sveum.
That’s Enrique Freakin’ Wilson, to you buddy.
Getting him for Damaso Marte was highway robbery, huh?
Corey Patterson was once one of the best prospects in baseball, too.
And if Patterson put it all together five years into his career, I wouldn’t have been stunned, either.
I know some girls who have been with star ballplayers- sometimes they drink and aren’t very discerning just like the rest of us mortals.
Hey, the Pirates flipped Marte right away, too (and then got him back for Rob Mackowiak)!
Corey Patterson was once one of the best prospects in baseball, too. You can’t read too much into that stuff.
So was Phil Hughes.

So was Phil Hughes.
*cries*
Phil Hughes was a rumour.
Anyone else worrying about Hughes? At first it was August, now it’s maybe September.
At least Phil Huggies has a rested arm.
Don’t worry guys. Pavano is supposed to be back by August. (and, oh god, he look good next to Ponson)
Pags is beyond the help of a living pet. Stuffed animal and a padded cell, maybe.
ha! When Don calls you out, you may need to meditate and look inwards.
Just messin’ Don.
also in regards to: sometimes they drink and aren’t very discerning just like the rest of us mortals.
I am always discerning, thank you. Even when absurdly drunk.
Never really heard a schedule for Hughes’ return, so I don’t really know how to tell if he’s behind schedule. He says he threw 90 feet on level ground a few days ago, and hopes to throw from a mound next week. Barring further setbacks, I would think that he’ll need the rest of this month to get his arm strength back, and then at least three rehab starts. That’s mid-August, which certainly could turn into September.
I really don’t see the value in pushing a guy with a broken rib. Wakefield had the same injury last season for Boston and had all sort of trouble, at least in part because he came back early. Obviously, the team could use him - the way Rasner and Ponson have been pitching, but the Yanks have other guys who can help them and sooner or later they will give them a try.
I guess what should be on our horizon is at what point IPK will be a better option than Ponson or Rasner. I’m presuming he’s the next in line. Perhaps Karstens has a spot before him.
I’m basically hoping that Joba, Pettitte, and the old Man Moose can hold it together. After that, getting anything decent out of the 4/5 is just a bonus. I hope Rasner can get back to a 4.5 ERA or so.
McCutchen has to be on the radar too. He just pitched a complete game shutout his last time out, with 10 strikeouts and no walks.
I’d feel pretty good about the season if we still had Wang. God damn interleague play.
