Did you event the Snacks nickname? Google is telling me that it’s only been used to describe Sir Sidney.

Tonight we start our march towards the post season!

I’m going to meet Sidney at a carvel after the game to celebrate, win or lose.

So does nobody have anything to say, or has everyone decided to take the night off after the way the last few have gone?

I’m waiting for glory or doom.  I figure the way things are going its one or the other

that was unexpected

My stars. I had forgotten what a lead feels like.

(It feels good, in case that wasn’t clear.)

Lots of fly balls and line outs for Snacks.  Is he pitching with smoke and mirrors?

Thank you for the jinx, Nate.

The highway’s jammed with broken Ponsons on a last chance power drive.

lead gone Mr. Conkles.  Return to status quo

lead gone Mr. Conkles.  Return to status quo

And just like that, it burns when I pee again.

Jeter failing in his bid to extend the team double play lead. Maybe next time, Jetes. Why so many ground balls this year, bud?

I blame that new Gillette commercial

Jeter failing in his bid to extend the team double play lead. Maybe next time, Jetes. Why so many ground balls this year, bud?

Jeter’s never been a big fly ball hitter, has he?  I think it’s more because Damon’s having a great year and is on base a lot more than last year, which means that Jeter’s groundouts are turning into double plays.

Rally ‘staches on, folks!

The thong remains the same.

Micheal Kay is the master of the reverse jinx. Seriously, how many times did he say that Giambi is .174 with RISP and 0 for 9 with the bases loaded?

thank god

I’m not confident were going to win this game with Ponson on the mound but the offense showing up feels good.

Moose and Joba gnash their teeth.

glad he made that mound visit

18. Yes, Jeter has always had been a heavy ground ball hitter. But I’m concerned that he isn’t really driving the ball with any consistency this season. Meanwhile, the Stache keeps the team upright.

Sidney Ponson just gave you a gift there fellas. Let’s show some appreciation and run it up some more.

18. Yes, Jeter has always had been a heavy ground ball hitter. But I’m concerned that he isn’t really driving the ball with any consistency this season. Meanwhile, the Stache keeps the team upright.

According to fangraphs, he’s always had about a 2.3 GB/FB ratio.  This season it’s been 2.7, with only 15.9% line driver percentage, so it looks like he is indeed replacing line drives with ground balls.

Drive the ball, Jetes.

Didn’t SG say batting average is usually line drive percentage + .12?

Kid can’t catch a break..

expected BABIP is LD +.12

Is it too much to ask Luis Mendoza to change his name to Linus Mendoza? It’s already very close, and would be relatively badass name for a pitcher, and, most importantly, would make me smile.

Also can we start taking bets on when Gardner gets his first hit

Ponson is throwing a lot of breaking balls tonight and I’m not sure why.

They’ve been beating us with soft-tossing junkballers, so Girardi wants to return the favor.

Somebody get a sweat bucket for Ponson out there.

Some heinous base running there from Texas, but I’ll take it.

Some heinous base running there from Texas, but I’ll take it.

Their infield defense, on the other hand has been stellar.

How did that look? Did it just get away from Linus?

Show no mercy! banana_smiley_46.gif

According to Wikipedia: “In 2006, Benoit ranked in the top ten American League relievers in strikeouts, innings pitched and percentage of inherited runners who scored.”

Baseclog away!
It would be really amusing if Abreu could steal home considering how big a lead he’s getting.

Well that sucked.

It would be really amusing if Abreu could steal home considering how big a lead he’s getting.

Or they could just give it to him.

They should now attempt the ol’ triple steal. I bet the Rangers aren’t expecting it.

Or not. Stupid slow Gameday.

Lead off walk with a three run lead? That’s just snacks being snacks.

I was about to say that people are going to think that Ponson has had two good outings now.  sorry.

If you were to argue that a reliever should have been heating up before this inning started, I would commend your insight.

How the hell did that go out? ughhh

Can we just cancel the rest of the season.

Joe Girardi is a serious fucking moron.

Discuss:

Does this performance make it more or less likely that the Yankees will sign Shawn Chacon?

I am so angry right now.

Well, that went to shit in a hurry.

They have to win this fucking game.

Joe Girardi is so clueless.

I was always OK with Chacon and not ok with Ponson so I say bring it on.  The season can’t get much worse; can it?

Girardi is terrrrrriiibbblllllleeeeee. Those extra letters are for emphasis. The people who lambasted Torre would be really hypocritical not to destroy Girardi for the way he has handled this series. Disgusting.

I’m not giving up on this game, but if they lose I’m not sure I’m not giving up on the season.

Anger is relative. Free Smileys & Emoticons at Clipart of.com

Ooops, I forgot: those extra letters are for Charles Barkley emphasis. Leaving in a bloated and obviously gassed Sidney Ponson to blow the lead?  That’s terrible, Joe, just terrible. It harkens the Ohlendorf Baltimore calamity. Joe made his move, and would not let the situation dictate his strategy. He was inflexible. He is ROBO-MANAGER 3000, and he is pissing me off.

Thanks to Edwar the miracle worker the game is not quite out of hand

This would be a loverly spot for Mr. Gardner to get his first big-boy hit.

trouble brewing and 2nd best hitter Damon coming up

Or coax a walk.

Ha, he gets on and he can’t steal.

I hardly think 4 straight balls is “coaxing” a walk

Especially for you Joe. Free Smileys & Emoticons at Clipart of.com

I hardly think 4 straight balls is “coaxing” a walk

He flashed Benoit his “walk-me” eyes.

Sub-optimal Johnny.

Oh Derek! Free Smileys & Emoticons at Clipart of.com

That really sucked.

Anyone think it was a no brainer to send the runners there. fucking Girardi, everything he touches turns to shit.

Sigh. Just, sigh.

This team is in absolute shambles right now.

If George were well, Girardi would be gone. Though I doubt he would have hired him in the first place.

Weekly Journalist is obviously on the Anti-Girardi bandwagon. I am driving, and recommending all riders wield pitch-forks as we ride into battle against all the bloggers who crowned Girardi as a genius before the season started.

Yee-haw.

Bring back Bobby V?

Edwar keeping it at one run, we can win this game.

Well, Edwar is back. That’s nice.

Rally banana will not be banned! banana

Anyone get the feeling this inning could basically sum up the season?

The Stache!!!!

Giambi! Rally banana lives! banana

So, is Jason Giambi cooked?

Even though I already know the answer is no, I’ll humbly suggest Mo for two.

I’ve been watching the banana in #91 for like 5 minutes, and he hasn’t repeated a move yet.

Farnsworth ready.

Stat padding time.

Farns-proofed?

Rays rally underway.

I think this one is officially busted wide open. Total team slump over?

I’m 2 minutes behind everyone else. Stupid Gameday. And stupid toggling between tabs. This is not how baseball should be!!

Rays grab lead, sting Bosox.

i could get used to this....oh yeah ....i am used to this

we have a chance to really take boston down a notch this weekend

Hawkins-proof?

Hey, all. It’s been a while. I just dropped in to say:

It’s about damn time we realized we were playing the Texas Rangers.

That is all.

7-4 Rays in the 7th.

Michael Kay’s out-of-context stats FTW.

Okay, save some of these for the next series.

The secret of sucky pitching? Do it for the Yankees.

The secret of sucky pitching? Do it for the Yankees.

Of course, seeing as the game is in the bag, there’s no reason for Hawkin’s to test your theory.

Hawkins. What the hell was I doing with that apostrophe?

21 runs for three games against Rangers pitching is about right.  Too bad they couldn’t have spread them out a little better.

Hey, just think of the pythag.  They’re doing okay after this series.

that’s my only knock on the pythag. Games like this, it just seems like it’s natural to hit better when you’re relaxed, and so once you’re up by 5 runs, the rest don’t seem to mean as much. Dunno, i know i sound old-fashioned and it’s possible I’m wrong.

Either way, thank God we hit the ball today. What was it Jeter said a while back, “Maybe we need our starters to pitch worse”. Prophetic.

I think for every game like this there are a few games where the team doesn’t score as many runs as they should.  It all evens out.  For the most part I think pythag is fairly decent.  I was just joking around.  I love $2 pints at the local pub.

When are Daisuke Matsuzaka’s walks going to come back to haunt him?  He had 5 in 5 IP.  I demand regression!

hey JTTM69 -

can i pls have kennedy now OK THX!

Wall-E was awesome.

Yankee offense (apparently) was awesome.

Sox lost again.

Mets just blew a 2-run lead.

It’s a good night!

Disappointing to see Hancock get pretty bad reviews.

Has anyone noticed that Posada is hitting the crap out of the ball this year - even his outs all seem to be line drives.

Apparently A-Rod’s splitting up from his wife?  Hopefully this doesn’t mess with his head to much…

Red Sox hunting season begins today. Free Smileys & Emoticons at Clipart of.com

hank is a genius. How can anyone hate him? everytime he says something the team responds in a big way.

Hancock was alright. I thought the twist in the middle was stupid and probably unnecessary. Up to that point, it was really good and really funny. The ending was as anti-climatic as could be. If you like Will Smith or Jason Bateman (if you don’t like Will Smith something is wrong with you), it’s probably worth seeing. Some of the special effects are awesome.

wow. this blog is almost abandoned.

Haha yeah when we lose you see 400+ posts. Yet when we win big, 130? Weird.

wow. this blog is almost abandoned.

I’m surmising that everyone is trying to finish their work as early as possible. That was my goal until I remembered that I can’t leave early anyway.

Aren’t you in grad school?  I’m not sure I’d call that a living.  Mine isn’t.

No, I’m on leave from the grad school until I defend my thesis.  In the meantime, I have a real job, with an office and everything!

Isn’t it great?  I’m on a little vacation right now at an internship at a pharma company.  It’s so awesome.
