When your offense sucks, it’s always a good idea to replace Jorge Posada and Nick Swisher with Jose Molina and Jerry Hairston Jr.
Whatever.
Comments
SG’s coda says it all
Aww man, we get the whatever, but not the Whatever girl? That is unfair.
I think this is an extended complaint thread.
Essentially, we are giving Pedro about two free outs at the bottom of the order (1 for Molina, .5 for Hairston and .5 for Melky).
Hairston?
Seriously?
Girardi you suck.
Best hope Girardi is one of those lucky guys who steps in shit and comes out smelling like roses cause he sure ain’t managing very smart.
Last night’s loss didn’t bother me at all (other than it obviously hurt their chances to win the WS). We got outplayed, and you tip your cap.
This game has already upset me more. Overmanaging before the game even starts? This disgusts me.
Just play gardner in CF, move Melky to RF and hope that the defensive upgrade justifies punting a spot in the order.
[6] Agreed.
If you are going to bench Swisher, which is a defensible move, at least switch him for Gardner. I mean they are facing a RHP so Gardner even gets the platoon advantage over Hairston (along with being a superior player).
Have the Yankees forfeited yet, or they still going through the formalities of sucking against Pedro?
Hairston?
Him?
Phillies in 2.
Maybe this is a truly devious move by Girardi and Hairston is actually Enrique Wilson wearing a Jerry Hairston Halloween costume?
you joke [10], but girardi said he liked hariston’s numbers against pedro. 8 for 24.
EIGHT FOR TWENTY FOUR!!!!!!!!!
kronic, you are nowhere near the stadium tonight, right?
dear jerry hairston, please try to ignore the fact that you are jerry hairston.
Just about to leave for game and I see this? I guess I’m gonna have to get drunk, cause if Joe’s gonna panic - I see no other course of action…
To alcohol! The cause of, and solution to, all of life’s problems!
This really is a house money lineup….in a World Series game.
Might as well start Hinske at third over A-Rod and be done with it.
My favorite Simpsons quote ever. Well played sir!
Anyway I do hope they can pull in out in spite of….this
I’m going to go buy some vodka.
Hinske will come in after Garnder pinch runs for Alex in the 3rd inning…
40 minutes via subway. want me to take care of the harriston problem?
hey, if we’re handing out awards for tv quotes, let’s not look past [8] sliding in an arrested development line.
You ain’t got no problem, kronic. I’m on the motherfarnserer. Go back in there, chill them Yanks fans out and wait for the Wolf who should be coming directly
oh, you’re sending the wolf? that’s all you had to say!
Burnett in the 1st vs. Utley/Howard in DNYS. I’m bracing myself.
@22 Shit man, you sendin’ the wolf? That’s all you had to say.
Congrats to Cliff Lee on not experiencing any arm problems as a result of throwing over 120 pitches in Game One.
Actually, Hairston has 10 hits in 31 PAs off Pedro, according to BR.
That changes everything!
Can’t watch the majority of the game tonight, hopefully I miss good times. If not, at least I’ll be spared the pain of watching Molina and Hairston bat 6+ times.
Another Joe won a WS in 1996 while playing guys like Charlie Hayes over guys like Wade Boggs.
“Tonight Aura is named Jose and Mystique answers to Jerry. I’m Joe Buck alongside Tim McCarver…”
before i cut and paste that to my friends, is that a real quote [31]?
Let’s go Yankees!
[32] No, but the fact that you believed it almost makes the lineup worth it.
No, actually it doesn’t.
Derek Jeter, SS (.334/.404/.465, 5.7 WAR)
Johnny Damon, LF (.282/.364/.489, 3.1 WAR)
Mark Teixeira, 1B (.292/.383/.565, 4.7 WAR)
Alex Rodriguez, 3B (.286/.402/.532, 3.5 WAR)
Hideki Matsui, DH (.274/.366/.509, 1.9 WAR)
Robinson Cano, 2B (.320/.352/.520, 3.5 WAR)
Jerry Hairston Jr. Enrique Wilson, RF (.237/.344/.382, 0.2 WAR)
Melky Cabrera, CF (.274/.333/.416, 0.9 WAR)
Jose Molina, C (.217/.290/.268, -0.7 WAR)
Total, (.293/.369/.490, 22.8 WAR)
The Yankees will win tonight. The only open question is the score.
If we need TV for inspiration let’s not overlook Leon from Curb sitting Joe down to explain how to get up and in Pedro’s ass.
The Yanks really to get some hits this game. I heartily disagree with tonight’s lineup construction, but have ordered crow from the menu and am hoping they have some in the kitchen.
Joe Girardi has really really managed to overmanage. Honestly, what is he doing? Its not like this game isn’t already set up to be infuriating enough, what with the WOE destined to appear against Pedro, and Burnett, well, being Burnett, but now we have to deal with BOTH Molina and Hairston. Ugh.
I wouldn’t have minded see Hairston if put Posada in there. Swisher and Posada on the bench seems like too much to give up.
I thought the embers were dying out, but no, I still hate Pedro so much.
Fangraphs analysis basically boils down to this move not making sense because Hairston and Molina hit from the right side. Um, how about the fact that they wholly inferior players to the starters they are displacing?
Am I the only one who is anti-pre game concert? Enough with the f-in media circus. This is World Series, not the Super Bowl. If the game isn’t enough for you, give me your ticket.
[42] It’s double dumb. Or rather, double dumb doubled, so…quadruple dumb.
Mark Grace looks pleased that the Yankees are down 0-1.
[30] This whole thing reminds me of every at bat Luis Sojo ever got in a playoff game.
Special night here lads. Mrs otf made veal parm. We never have meals like this on school nights. The Katt has his cap stapled to his ears.
Hairston goes 3 for 6, 4 rbi’s Moleeno 2 walks
[47] OTF- RAMAGE accidentally fired 3 M240 rounds while @ anchor and hit the beach…. in Poland No one hurt, except some poor GM2’s career.
Beautiful night. Let’s lose two.
Is Joe Buck wearing a Halloween mask?
If this backfires, I’m all for canning Girardi and bringin Donnie Baseball.
For game 3. I’ve been a big Girardi supporter, but this is ridiculous. Screw it, I’m watching Survivor and CSI.
Oh, and I’m serious. If they lose this series and Girardi manages like a scared idiot, bring in Mattingly for next season.
Actually, I’m just rooting for 2 unearned runs.
Mark Grace looks pleased that the Yankees are down 0-1.
His only purpose on the show, apparently, is to constantly remind us that he played on the 2001 Arizona Diamondbacks that defeated the Yankees in the World Series.
[51] How about this guy instead?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kl5Wsp8e5LA
Burnett looks pretty nasty in the early going.
That ball is moving.
Put this guy on the deck, wouldya…
Ok, I’m gonna be optimistic here.
Good AJ! Worse hair: Utley or Pedro?
AJ’s pitches have some sharp break tonight. Here’s to hoping he keeps control of them.
Wow Glad good AJ showed up.
J- WTF- how do these things happen?
That Pedro scouting report is so stoopid.
burnett looking good out the gate.
Morgan: “I hope that wasn’t his fastball.”
[64] About Pedro, obv.
I’ve always liked Pedro.
I’ve always admired him.
- Was that an eephus or a curve to Jeter?
[66] I respect opponents who treat NY as special.
[61] Random weapons discharges happen very now and then and it amazes me every time. Thankfully no one was hurt.
This is already rather amazing. Stop it before it steamrolls.
Show up Teix
Ah, this is promising. Nothing like striking out on 88 Mph fastballs and on three change-ups in a row. Should be a fun night
So Pedro is gonna strike out the side?
I’m hopeful they get to him the second time through the order. I think the first pass could be pretty ugly.
So is the 85 mph pitch really the change or is that the fastball? I’m thinking FB.
Awesome. High fives, everyone.
2 K and a popup. Feels like yesterday.
I remain optimistic.
Is there a reason this team seems determined to swing badly at curveballs in the dirt and way inside/outside and to pup up every other at bat? They have be setting some kind of record.
Terrific start by the Yankee hitters.
Guys, it is getting a little, might I say, late. You need to have better ABs. Follow the captain.
perfect, keep it up high and the big fella won’t catch up, AJ…
[78] Yeah, what is there to be gained by being pessimistic?
The only thing is that the showing by the Yankee hitters is not giving me much conviction behind the optimism.
Burnett, on the other hand, is doing really well, so far. Hopefully, there is no bad inning tonight.
Fastball is REALLY moving. Breaking into righties, away from lefties. Potentially dangerous if they come inside on Utley and Howard.
long AB by werth
[82] This is Burnett we are talking about. Its not a matter of if, but hopefully how minor.
I approve of this AJ.
Spoke too soon.
I hate two outs.
Matt Stairs looks like a trucker.
Was that not a good pitch?
Didn’t they eliminate the Angels?
That was a terrible error by Alex Rodriguez.
Fuck fuck fuck
Yeah, real great. Way to be optimistic.
(groan)
No run if it just gets by without the tip…
Bloopers and bleeders.
ARod will fix it in the bottom half
Alex better fucking homer twice
Well, AJ better not give up another run, this whole game, cause I’m not sure this team can score more than 2.
Somebody has to step up, because this ballclub is about THIS close to getting embarrassed in the World Farnsworthing Series.
is it too late to request the “step up” girl one more time? or has she already had bad plastic surgery?
What kind of a necklace is AJ wearing?
