I refuse to blame luck for the 6 runs Orioles scored. AJ had a terrible second inning.

The offense has manufactured a run.

[1] More of a lesson not to manufacture a run in the 1st. Especially calling for a bunt on a 2-1 count.

Baltimore miss the PAT?

Girardi being Girardi, manufacturing runs. Getting ready for the post season.

AJ sure is rounding into shape.

Jordan uses HOF ceremony to whine about everyone who ever offended him.  I especially like the bit about Russell, who he just plain fouled in game 6 vs the Jazz.

I love it how Girardi always go for the jugular. Even in a meaningless game like this.

I guess strike one to Molina makes up for ball two.

Yanks lookin’ sharp this weekend.  A.J. “Clunker” Burnett with an inspiring outing.

I demand cash from anybody that blames Jorge Posada’s game calling for Burnett’s bad outings from this point on.

The thing that scares me is that this guy has a higher probability of a meltdown inning in any given outing than almost anyone I have seen. And when it is bad with Burnett, it is brutal.

The margin for error in the playoffs is really low. I hope Burnett somehow finds his groove, but I am not particularly optimistic.

“than almost anyone I have seen.”

Confirmation bias.  Or sss.  As long as he’s a good pitcher on average, the Yankees will win lots of games he starts, in the regular season and post.

AJ is just messing with us. He’ll be lights out in the playoffs.

Seriously, I suspect (based on nothing more than intuition) that he has a tendency to lose focus at times, but that the playoffs will concentrate his mind.

Losing two probably no big deal but between Marte last night and AJ there is cause for concern especially with the likelihood that we’ll be seeing Verlander twice in a fiver.

What Sam #10 said is right on and I don’t see us winning a lot of playoff games if AJ has one of his innings.  AJ has an era over 6 in his last 9 starts with a WHIP around 1.5, that won’t do it.  Is Andy #2 now?

Yankees suck.

Wait one Vill. Only some Yankees suck. Most are actually pretty decent.
I’m rereading Richard Ben Cramer’s, Yankee Clipper book. Came out 8 or 9 years ago.  It’s a wonderful read. Dude is a brilliant scribe, Joe D was a total nutbag but no one ever, was as focused in a ballgame. You guys have to read it. Nutbag I say. Lefty Gomez tales, Oh Marone!
First assignment after we beat the Phils next month. Do it. You’ll be glad ya did.

IPK pitched 2 innings for Tampa today - this is the league finals apparently.  He allowed a single.

The Katt has spoken, I assume?

McAllister allowed 3 runs (8 H, BB, 3 K) in 5.1 IP v. Gwinnett.

Jennings says McAllister pitched better than the #s suggest.  This was his AAA debut.

Re walk-off balks, Serena Williams lost a semifinal match at the US Open today on a penalty point for yelling obscenities at a line judge.

Let’s go Yankees.

How to be optimisic over AJ in the post season?

The Bigger question is this: Will the Yankees actually clinch the AL East?

Whatever.

[23] This is a great team.

Don’t worry, be happy.

Way back in the 20th century, Bill James wrote the first essential book about baseball managers. Chris Jaffe has just written the second.

From now on, whenever I have a question about a manager, Jaffe's book will be the first and last one I reach for.

John Brattain Memorial Fund

The Hardball Times has set up a memorial fund for John Brattain's family. He left behind a wife and two teenage daughters.

Four years ago, I found from personal experience how generous the online community can be to its own in their hour of need. I am now literally begging you to be even more generous than you were to me.
