Yanks get their first look at highly-touted Chris Tillman if Mother Nature cooperates. The Yankees haven’t called the game despite a torrential downpour because open gates plus people waiting for a game that may or may not start while eating hot dogs and drinking beer is good for business.
This game, if played, is important. I can’t tell you exactly why right now, but trust me on this. If it’s rained out, then it will have turned that it actually wasn’t important.
Go Yankees.

How his it in NYC because on the radar (http://www.accuweather.com/radar-local.asp?partner=accuweather&traveler=0&site=KPHL&type=R1&anim=1&large=1) it doesn’t look too bad for the next 20-30 minutes.
Both teams agree to swing at every pitch until the 9th, so they can get the game in under half an hour. Oh, I forgot the 7th inning stretch.
it doesn’t look too bad for the next 20-30 minutes.
I meant after 20-30 minutes.
Is this game being rained out because I am at work, so it can be made up tomorrow when I will be able to actually watch Jeter get that next hit?
Holy Cow!
Who else finds it amusing that Boston started the game, but after 3 Rays reached base, decided to halt the game.
Actually, does this mean anything about Lester coming back out to pitch? If the Sox lose Lester for the night, I like the Rays chances.
After all, Yankees are really lucky to be so far ahead of a clearly better Boston team.
First pitch, 8.20 East Coast time.
Its not up to a team, its up to the umpires and grounds crew.
Yeah, it does appear the Boston might have to just lose Lester for this game, unless they risk his health for this game, knowing that the Rays BP + Fenway = no TB lead is safe.
Wow, an HBO boxing ad. Moving up to elite web status.
I confess to missing the mammalian fun bags.
I really dislike the red hats
Hey B-man, I think you may have mixed up meself with my fine neighbor to the north and east of me. RI is the clear chowda-eatin padre of the GA Tech attending young fella.
I could think of worse peeps to be confused with.
[10] Haven’t we done really well in the red hats ??
(I hate them, too)
10- Maybe they keep you dry? These lads should not be playing in this veras.
Jeter could break the record multiple times, if he gets a hit and they end up calling the game before 5 innings. Then he’d get to do it again.
blacked out of this broadcast because I am in Newark, DE…the “heart” of Baltimore, apparently. The only game I can actually tune in on my TV is Mets/Phils. And some Canadian football game on TSN. I couldn’t even order MASN if I wanted to
Jeter sucks.
15- That sucks too.
Rain has lessened quite a bit.
[15] MLBEI is never blacked out unless the game is on national TV.
Buh Bye!
A-Gawd !!!
A-Rod makes the heavens cry.
[19] Really? If I’d known that, I might have bought it!
[23] Yah, but oftimes you don’t get the day games (1 pm edt starts). About 50% of those. Everything else, yeah.
Not quite the best money I ever spent, but in the Top 10.
Do we have a source for Boston ala Pete Abe that can tell us what’s going on with the rain delay and whether/when they expect to resume ?
Sorry thurm, to assign you to children (and a 5-figure tuition) that aren’t your responsibility.
Kinda peculiar that the behind-home-plate seats, empty in April, are packed for a rainy and meaningless September engagement with the O’s.
25- I’ll put Nesn on for wee bit.
Luke Scott seems like a good name for a cowboy.
I hate when runs are given up right after runs are scored by us.
And I hate the red hats.
But I’m really in a much better mood than it must sound.
[26]
I’m guessing they’ve been given out to groups in connection with some kind of Sept 11 charity kind of thing.
Annoying accents. No news. I’ll keep checking.
26- tuitions are frikkin crazy. My best pal Tony is out 70 k and his daughter just started her senior year.
I am kinda a late to the party, but let me still say:
Asteroid!
Melvin jeter.
Pete, Louis l’Amour had to have a cow poke named Luke Scott tucked away somewhere. Pardner.
[30]Thanks, Thurm.
Capitano Numero Primo !
I’m almost happiest just so we won’t have to hear about it anymore.
Seriously though, congrats Captain Sweetheart.
Most hits as a Yankee. That’s pretty damn good, isn’t it?
Nice link Pinn! Aye, you get 2 n’s.
Now…come to think of it…in a certain way it would be kind of funny if the game washed out before they completed five and he had to do it all over again.
I wish I had muted the last two minutes.
So we have Derek “Class” Jeter on first etc. etc….
and Nick “Class Clown” Swisher waves through a pitch and drops the most emphatic F-Bomb ever caught on tape.
Nice Carlin ref, Herr Striper.
[42] Uh…. yeah… glad you, uh, caught it.
I love Kay’s revisionist history. The Astros did not stay away from Jeter because of the high school thing, they stayed away because he wanted more money than they were willing to pay, while Phil Nevin was willing to sign for less. It’s the same thing that went on for years (and still goes on now, to a certain extent).
Thought it was intentional. Class Clown, 7 dirty words, F-bomb…...
I guess there ain’t nothin that’s original anymore.
RS-Rays ppd. Does that erase the situation?
Still says rain delay on Nesn.
Postponed, make up on sunday at noon.
Extra bases , a blog I checked to see about the boston Game, just posted that the game will be postponed to Sunday. But they also said it will resume with the current situation, loaded and with one out. Is this true? Shouldn´t a game of less than 5 innings just be canceled, and replayed (not that I´m complaining)?
Baseball Prospectus jinxed Matt Wieters.
so they postponed a game in Boston just to save Lestah’s ERA!?
Vortex Engage.
Even Gardner is not immune to the Yankee baserunning craptitude.
Is it just me, or have there been some REALLY bad baserunning mistakes and mishaps this year?
Speed kills. Ugh.
Vortex Control: Idle standby.
Walk the first batter after scoring a run - that is the book on Baltimore, isn’t it?
You can’t spell Battlecat without battle.
Official Yankee Game.
Pettitte better start throwing some fucking strikes. Jesus.
Giant raccoon warming in the pen. Wearing Jonny A’s #.
[54] It’s definitely not you Joanthan.
What I love is Gardner slides headfirst (thus imperiling the thumb) into the base you’re allowed to overrun, then gets tagged out overrunning 3rd because he didn’t slide.
THAT was freaking awesome.
There was no real way that they’d be able to get the runner at first even if Andy fields it cleanly.
Po was pulled off the plate.
Can the Katt take down big vermin, Thurm?
Come on, Andy, you can’t follow up an awesome play with a freaking bases loaded HBP!
I didn’t know it was possible to walk Cesar Izturis on four pitches.
That was a nice play by Cano, good range.
Great play by Cano to end the inning.
Fuhkkkkin Cano!!!!!!!!!! Great play.
That talking horse isn’t real. They dubbed that in.
65- Only when motivated. He’s kind of mannylike at times.
Whew! I had my doubts about Jeter ever getting that hit.
Elsewhere, the next Yankees club record that Jeter is aiming at, besides the stolen base record, is the strikeout record. Only Mickey Mantle stands in Jeter’s way of immortality. Entering tonight, Mantle had 1,710 K’s (and no more likely in this league) and Jeter was catchig up fast with 1,453.
Interestigly, the Babe is a laggard in fifth place wih 1,122 K’s, with Posada in third place with 1,266 and Bernie Williams in fourth place with 1,212.
Helloooo Don. Glad you could make it.
The busses are laughing at you Matsui. Make them pay.
Bus wrecker?
Thurm, it’s slippery when wet.
Good tires are the key. And a lighter right foot.
At least all those K’s weren’t DP’s.
Bernie denies K’ing all those times, that’s why he left in a huff. He demands a recount.
Posada trying to catch Jeter up.
Apparently the left edge of the plate runs all the way into the rightie batters box, and then a further 3 inches.
It did on Matsui, too.
Two wheels.
79 ?
Nice beginning ass head.
Uh the site is kind of blowing up. No ones posts are appearing except my own.
Marte is spoon feeding katt (dirty) litter as I type.
Did you go and ignore *.* Thurm ?
[83] re:[79] Some see K’s as no problem, preferable to a DP. But that assumes putting the ball in play would be hitting into a DP.
About Bernie, it’s a joke. But Bernie did leave in a huff.
No Pin. I didn’t. Everyones back now. Effen wierd.
Tommymart looking good eh?
How’s that Cashman trade with the Pirates lookin’ now? Just sayin’, all you Cashman apologists, just sayin’.
Apparently the Marte we traded for has left town again
Hi, I’m the GM for the Bridgeport Bluefish. I’m interested in this LHP you guys have, Damaso Marte.
Hopefully the rest prescribed for Robertson will do the trick. He’ll be needed. Bruney says different though.
Oh looky! Joe Girardi doin’ some managin’.
JH, you gotta bag of balls and a warm sixer of Genny cream ale ?
Awesome, Don’s here.
I’ve got to be honest, here. I really do miss Jeff Karstens, Ross Ohlendorf and Dan McCutchen. It’s really too bad Cash gave up on those can’t miss guys to acquire Nady and Marte.
91- John Rocker would get a better contract on the subway right about now.
that sucked.
[91] Now call up Dogfish Head and we’ll talk.
as good as this team is, the # of pitchers I will feel happy seeing in the postseason right now is 3 (three)—shouldn’t that list be a little longer?
The late Dennis Johnson pitching for NY. at this time.
Don, at what point is this season a failure?
1) tonight’s game gets rained out with the Yankees trailing
2) the Yankees fail to win 110 games
3) Jeff Karstens and Ross Ohlendorf combine for 20 innings of 6 run ball to each win two games apiece
