Sergio Mitre… wow… nice night to have free MLB on TV
I’m looking forward to seeing how Mitre does tonight. I will be really surprised if this game ends 2-1.
Mitre pitched very well for 100 IP+ in 2007 (then not so well probably due to injury) and he’s pitched well in AAA. I don’t think it’s time to bet on the guy with the 7.22 ERA.
OT, heard an announcer say “WHIP” the other day, not “W.H.I.P.” What do the anti-“OPS” forces think of that? I freely admit I say e.g. “E.R.A.”.
Civony queens are getting even bosomier.
I say WHIP as a word. W-H-I-P is way too awkward.
Is Hinske so bad at 3B that he can’t play versus a righty instead of Ransom? Surely he can’t be that terrible.
I say Whip. W-H-I-P isn’t nearly as catchy as E-R-A.
Hinske is an awful, awful third baseman, he won’t play third ever again unless it’s an emergency.
Remember that game in 2004 where Gary Sheffield played third.
haha, they are demonstrating the shaving cream pie on ESPN
Or if it’s a blowout I suppose.
Does Ransom not qualify as an emergency? Every time I see him on the field I want to throw a bucket of water on him.
Ransom is a lousy option but most teams seem to feel better about awful offense than awful defense. I can’t blame them. It’s probably a good move tonight. Hill will probably walk Ransom at some point.
Sheesh, I am being dumb tonight, teams prefer awful offense in a backup infielder than awful defense.
If Ransom continues to play poorly on defense, and Hinske isn’t viable there, then they need to either bring Pena back up or acquire a UI.
If Ransom walks tonight, I owe you a Coke.
{14}
A few more of those and our bullpen is set!
If Mitre gets his grounders, it could be a long game with Ransom at third.
O/U on Ransom errors, 2.5.
I’m surprised they didn’t choose tonight to give A-Rod the complete day off. They’re still doing that, right?
boo rain
Mitre kinda looks like Vazquez.
Well… there goes the no hitter…
Roberts is such a PITA.
Um, that was a strike….
Sadly, Igawa would probably do even worse than this.
Yanks trying to lead the universe in wild pitches.
Can’t be too upset with that first inning. As long as he doesn’t stay on the one run per inning pace.
Yeah, not terrible. Seems like he was keeping the pitches down. And a Yankee wouldn’t be a Yankee if they didn’t give up a double to Brian Roberts to lead off a game.
I agree… 12 pitches… not a horrible start…
Now… let’s get some runs…
Where is what’s-his-name when you need him?
The Kool-Aid man?
Jeffrey Maier
I will be very disapointed if Rich Hill leaves the game with a sub-7.0 ERA.
How did that wild pitch look on Gameday?
The Mitre one? Like it was a somewhat low sinker just off the plate, I was wondering if it was a pb.

I can’t believe they gave Pavano’s number away this soon.
No Hill air-mailed one to the back stop…
Gotta like ground balls…
OK… correct that… ‘catchable’ ground balls…
Pavano: 3.7 FIP in 100+ IP.
His sinker looks good so far. Good movement. Velocity seems decent.
Wow, it’s pretty cool getting to watch the future. Let’s go offense.
I’m just impressed that through two innings of Mitre pitching, 2-1 is still feasible.
Mitre looks like a promising prospect.
Ump’s giving Hill some iffy called strikes.
Hill,
If you can’t throw inside, don’t.
[37] I see it - it looks like it was thrown directly toward the viewer at high speed, almost no trail at all in the standard view.
Whatever happened to players charging the mound after HBPs?
I miss that…
Oh good, something called “Street Patrol” will air immediately after the game.
Don’t see A-rod running much anymore. It’s too bad really, I used to love watching him run the bases.
Plate this, please.
A-Rod is all about the small ball.
Small-ball… i’ll take it…
That was for you [48].
And people say the Yankees can’t score w/o hitting a HR…
And people say the Yankees can’t score w/o hitting a HR…
That would have been a popup to the pitcher in any other ballpark.
A run on no hits - that inning probably sexually stimulated Joe Morgan.
Oh good, something called “Street Patrol” will air immediately after the game.
I’m excited and I won’t even be watching it.
That would have been a popup to the pitcher in any other ballpark.
Haha.
that was predictable.
PITA
Brian Roberts is an evil, evil man. Sort of.
Well with a wild pitch and an error on a pick off throw, it looks like Mitre has settled in as a Yankee pitcher.
Definitely shoulda been Cano’s error.
That was like slow motion, rare that a pick off is so obvious that folks could be yelling for the throw. Cano. Drats.
Ugh.
There goes the string of 2-1 victories…
Now let’s just hope it won’t be a 2-1 loss.

Mitre is kind of like a bootleg version of vintage Wang.
Nahhh… they’ll get to Hill…
BTW, Mitre, despite giving up two cheap runs is pitching very well…
His GB to FB ratio must be very high…
Squeezed on that 3rd pitch to Huff.
66- Thats pretty dead on accurate, Matthew.
Mitre is kind of like a bootleg version of vintage Wang.
He’s like 2009 Wang right before he got hurt again.
Here’s a little old-age-itis…
What is it(?), the third inning, and i’m thinking man, these announcers are really bias toward the ORioles…
Yeah… i’m getting the free MLB feed from the Oriole network…
Time to go get a brew…
Nice comeback K by Mitre…
Hey Brian.. didja ever meet Mr McCourt? I did, at a signing. Nice fella.

I’m a big Gordon Ramsey fan, actually. Don’t know how anyone else feels about it. I like the show where he fixes up the awful restaurants way better though.
Mitre better slow down with the strikeouts or he’ll never become a true Yankee.
Day game tomorrow. teh suck.
If Ransom walks tonight, I owe you a Coke.
Yes!!
Walking Ransom should be punishable by flogging.
There’s the Ransom walk.
Free soda!
I actually DID go to a McCourt signing/talk/whatever.
I didn’t talk to him, though!

I’m going to tomorrow’s game, than a beer garden. Oh yeah. Hill has really good stuff. His command is just so awful, though. He’ll get a ton of chances. Look at Bruce Chen, for instance.
Wonder where Bubba’s gone.
Was there a reference to Ransom and walk earlier?
Let’s plate some here, please.
80- He was pretty cool, you know fer one them micks.
Anyone think the “Melky is being showcased for a trade” theory has any legs? It seems odd that Melky has been the everyday starter since the break - he doesn’t really seem to have “earned” that job, so perhaps he IS being showcased.

2-0 Texas.
Set up.
C’mon Yankees…
Big inning…

If Hill hangs a curve in, Damon can do damage.
[86] I smell sole possession…
80- He was pretty cool, you know fer one them micks.
That’s surprising - them micks usually are so lame.
Terrible.
That was a brutal out by Johnny.
Come on, Teix!!
Look at Hill throwing strikes to Damon?
How long can THAT last? (But I’m not actually asking, you see…)
Some fish require exorcisms.
Brian, are you yourself, perchance, a mick?
It’d be better if I was just randomly hated Irish people.
Fish=Christ symbol=Johnny Damon’s old beard?
95 for 86
The hit was 2,650th of Jeter’s career.
