The Yankees are undefeated when Rasner pitches, and 18-25 the rest of the time. Go Yanks.
Comments
A-Rod stretching and grimacing. I’ve speed-read maybe two books on the subject, and my feet and knees seem to think my running days are long past, but this is not my idea of a safe stretch.
Let’s go Razzie. I’ll be driving to Philly tonight listening to Sterling and Waldman… ugh…
It’s awesome that Jeter is playing.
SG, you might enjoy this cool site. The kind of stuff you do but using polling data and electoral models.
Rasner looks… awesome
wait a minute, is there some sort of delay or weather or something? Rasner just pitched to three batters and now he is walking back to the dugout? What gives?
Why is bobby running with two outs and alex up?
Gameday seems to have strike 3 on A-Rod inside - anyone watching?
yeah, it was definitely inside.
[9] Dang, thanks.
[10] Well, maybe it’s good news from a Yankees perspective that the pitch was really a ball.
It must be some sort of an optical illusion.
This is the first Yankee lead since early Saturday. Yikes.
Moello’s prowess!!!
Cano just knocked in a run. Is there a rain delay and I am watching a game from another year?
[15] When did Moeller invent a time machine and joined the Yankees in years past when they were good?
Brian, who are the non Rose guards that you like? 6 is disappointing, but it’s not outside of possibility that one of the PG might slip to the Knicks spot.
In some book I read, the characters did time-travelling and just had to decide they would (in their future) set something up in the past and voilà there it was.
Why is Jeter swinging?
I was distracted for a sec and I heard “and they get Jeter” and I thought, “Motherfucker, you did NOT just ground into a fucking DP!”
Phew.
Hmm, maybe because the strike zone is erratic…
Kind of sad when optimal equals not DP…
And villainx, I like the argument of trying to trade the pick along with, say, Zach Randolph and move down in the draft.
If you can’t get Mayo, then I’d try to trade down and get Westbrook (hopefully in a trade where Randolph is sent packing).
And apparently Walsh has been quoted as saying he would be interested in doing that.
Trade down, that is, to get rid of salary - not that specific deal.
By the way, last night, I was at a concert at Lincoln Center (it was pretty good - Raul Esparza and Kristin Chenoweth), so I was following the draft with a blackberry, and right after I got the bad news, I checked the Yankees game (I thought it was in a rain delay), and saw 10-0.
It took a lot of restraint not to add a backing vocal to Sondheim’s “Being Alive” of “FUCK!!”
Question for you guys:
I was offered a pair of tix to tomorrow’s game, in field box section 34. Anyone know if those are any good? I’m always in the upper deck, so I’ve no idea.
Was that bunt attempt a violation of a certain unwritten rule?
Also, fuck:
Per Abraham
UPDATED, 6:53 p.m.: Chien-Ming Wang is questionable for his start on Saturday. He strained his right calf covering first base on Sunday. They’re going to see how his bullpen goes tomorrow before making any decisions. Wang had an MRI that revealed a Grade 1 (or mild) strain.
... and the second pitch a warning?
Yeah, I was thinking, “Really, Jones? The third inning you’re doing this?”

Son of a bitch.
Good job, guys.
I meant more, no breaking up a perfect game via bunt. Whatever.
Hell, is David Wells actually better than Karstens?
Great K by Rasner.
[32] was that on Abreu?
If you can’t get Mayo
Bayless is good for you too? Mayo seems like a solid pick for 6. I don’t mind trading down, but with the way some players move up and down the draft board, Mayo or Bayless dropping a bit seems possible. And for some reason, GMs love to bet on “projects.”
That was some Raszle dazzle!
It’s sad that the Citgo commercial is probably right - there ARE people out there debating who is better, Jeter or A-Rod.
Hell, is David Wells actually better than Karstens?
No. Why do you ask?
If the Knicks pick six, I guess Bayless or the Italian guy are okay.
But Bayless
A. Might not be available at #6
and
B. Might not be substantially better than Westbrook.
And the Italian guy might not be available, either, at #6.
Mayo at #6 would be a blessing - but no way he makes it to 6.
Why on God’s green earth are you people discussing the NBA draft when the Yankees are leading in a game?? This is a rare and momentous occasion, it ought to be savored and enjoyed.
AROD!!!!!
That one doesn’t count, either, because they’re up.
Dude can’t fucking win.
I was offered a pair of tix to tomorrow’s game, in field box section 34. Anyone know if those are any good?
You know, with these intraweb thingies you can look at stuff like seating charts on your very own computer any time you want to. Section 34 is right behind the 3rd base dugout. I’d expect those ain’t too shabby.
I love me some ARod.
[37]...
Hey, YM, we’re talking about the game, too! ![]()
That fucking A-Fraud, with his bullshit home runs.
A Gone!
Hmm, this “Alex Rodriguez” character should hurt himself more often. I could get used to this homer-a-game thing.
Only need 13 more Yankee runs and 2 unearned O’s runs to complete my prediction!

No, you’re thinking Field Championship, which are indeed very nice seats. The ones I’m talking about are somewhere in the vicinity of the LF foul pole.
Out of curiosity, what does Cano need to hit for the rest of the season to have an average around .300?
Is it even that hard for Cano to get up to .300?
Hey look, A-Rod!
To be more precise, I think they are somewhere in the vicinity of the Canon sign in LF. I tried looking at the view, it looks kinda far.
That sucks about Mora.
I like him as a player.
If the season’s a quarter done, then he needs like 400 + 300 + 300 to balance out 200 so that’s 333 the rest of the way.
If the Knicks pick six, I guess Bayless or the Italian guy are okay.
As long as someone takes Lopez then, the 6 pick will be okay it seems. And if someone takes another big for whatever reason, then the Knicks likely will be able to have more choices.
I’d like to see Mayo. Don’t know much about Bayless or the rest.
Matsui was lucky there.
Ah, I see why the team is winning - Bobby Meachum is not with the team.

Heh, good way of calculating it. Let’s do it, Robby.
Who’s the guy wearing Cano’s number tonight? Looks like he can hit, they should keep him.
Also, effin Cintron.
“Heh, good way of calculating it.”
About all my degree in math is good for these days - that and trying to teach my two-year-old to count past two.
The Razz. Our new Aaron Small.
That SOB, hitting our Melky! Make him pay, Johnny.
It’s like the fucking Twilight Zone.
Gameday had strike one looking to Damon in the opposite batter’s box…
There’s something wrong with my TV. The # next to NYY is larger than the # next to BAL.
And villainx, I’m still mostly just hoping they trade the pick to dump Randolph.
At this rate, they’re going to use up their run allowance for the rest of the month.
At this rate, they’re going to use up their run allowance for the rest of the month.
But a blowout helps the Pythagenpat record, which means I can write more blog entries about how the Yankees actually DON’T suck.
Any thoughts on Matsui’s slide from someone who’s watching? Were his cleats elevated at all?
“which means I can write more blog entries about how the Yankees actually DON’T suck”
But there’s no one here I find annoying who would be driven up the wall by such posts - where’s the fun in that?
Ahh…
A lead.
A large lead.
Now let’s keep it.
RAZZLE DAZZLE!!!
Way cool.
Any thoughts on Matsui’s slide from someone who’s watching? Were his cleats elevated at all?
I thought it was an accident.
Rasner!
Whitey Razz.
The Razzfish.
Razz the merciless.
mostly just hoping they trade the pick to dump Randolph.
I’d like to see that too. But I don’t know how hopeful I should be for that.
Razz ma matazz!
Yeah, we didn’t miss A-Rod or anything.
This ARod guy looks like he could be something. Where’d they find him?
Total A-Fraud.
Kudos to Kay for questioning the use of the phrase “Nice piece of hitting.” That was a great exchange.
Yes lads going down on A Rod like drunken fat sluts. Whatever.
Kudos to Kay for questioning the use of the phrase “Nice piece of hitting.” That was a great exchange.
More detail?
Shelley Duncan: still sucks.
More detail?
Basically, Kay questioned why it is that people only use the phrase “nice piece of hitting” when guys go the other way. He wanted to know why solid hits into the pull field were not also “nice pieces of hitting.” Singleton (I think) then admitted jokingly that A-Rod’s previous at bat probably also qualified as a nice piece of hitting, given where it ended up. Anyways, I laughed, and I enjoy when announcers question the clichés that they throw around.
Duncan looks like a beer league softball player with that swing.
As for the slide, it was an accident.
Rasner is looking good. Good control and looks like he knows how to pitch.
He was the first guy in baseball history to go to right on an offspeed pitch. Cant wait to tell my grandkids.
Kay discussing whether Rasner might be this year’s Aaron Small. I’d think Rasner has slightly more upside than Small ever did. Rasner has a chance to be legitimately decent, whereas Small’s 10-0 was a fluke, as we all saw the following season.
Kay read# 60
Thanks Lynch.
Is it a downer to ask about Rasner’s projection? Seems he don’t mind pitching to contact which is good for the lack of walks, but can lead to some negatives too. So far, and that includes his year prior appearances ... not bad.
And now I have to knock Kay for the typical Sterling-esque panning of prediction in sports. Dude, if predictions were entirely worthless, you wouldn’t be able to construct a team in any kind of non-random manner.
Furthermore, is it really that hard to make basic predictions. You know, like a basic pecking order of teams? Sure you won’t be entirely right, but I’d wager that most fans will be more right than wrong most of the time. I just hate that old canard that just because you can’t predict things in baseball exactly, you should ignore predictions. It’s so stupid.
Agreed, John.
But really, most of the conclusions Kay draws are illogical.
By the by, I apologize for the “A-Fraud” stuff. That was petty of me. Sorry!
Say what ya feel Brian. I prefer Nim-Rod. No Judges here lad.
Yeah, but you know how irritating it is when someonek stops by and picks on a guy when he’s having a shitty game? Well, isn’t it just as lame of me to then make a big deal out of a guy when he’s having a great game?
A-Rod is a great player, period. I shouldn’t overly highlight his great games, just like others shouldn’t overly highlight his bad games.
Defense supporting the Razz!!!
Arod is a pretty good player to have on a baseball team.
The effin Razz. What a solid performance. Me go pour a Scotch now and wait for Bullpen.
Crap, replay shows Rasner seems to have turned his ankle.
Is this the same Cormier that used to pitch back in the mid-1990s?
See, now here - the petty thing would be to mock people who bitch about A-Rod - the cool thing is to just celebrate how awesome A-Rod is.
