NYDailyNews: Pudge day-to-day after collision at plate

ARLINGTON - Pudge Rodriguez suffered a bruised right knee after a collision at home plate with Texas’ David Murphy, but the injury doesn’t look like it will cost the catcher any time.

The Yankees said Rodriguez was day-to-day, though Jose Molina was set to catch today with Mike Mussina on the mound, giving Rodriguez an extra day to recover.

Hideki Matsui took 37 swings of batting practice on the field at the Yankees’ complex in Tampa yesterday, taking another step toward a return from the disabled list. Matsui said he has become more comfortable with the brace he is wearing on his swollen left knee, and he will begin a running program today.

WOE could use a healthy Matsui.

Update: Andy Pettitte likely to miss next start.

As if the Yankees didn’t have enough problems in the starting rotation already, it now appears that Andy Pettitte might be forced to miss his next start.

According to a source with knowledge of the situation, Pettitte has been experiencing stiffness in his left arm, though it is unclear whether it is his shoulder or elbow that has been bothering him.

Is there anyone healthy on this team?
Thanks to yankeemonkey for the link.

UPDATE TO THE UPDATE:
Never mind.

A real DH? Woah. That’d be something.

I wish it were A-Rod who had gotten hurt.  He’s so unclutch.

You had me jump over to this thread for THAT?

grin

Who originated the quote to the effect that “we’re all just day to day?”

There’s this really funny interview of Yankees draft pick Brett Marshall. You guys should check it out. www.mvn.com/milb-yankees

Woah!  An A. Phil sighting.  I thought you were on the permanently ineligible list, but I guess you’ve just been day to day for a long time.

OMGOMGOMG A.Phil is back!!!!

A. Phil welcome back. But, stay away from Frog.

I’ll eat my balls if Matsui is back in a game this season.

Please provide video proof.

Yeah, those academic sexual predators are devious, aren’t they.

Haha you guys remember me!!! That’s great! Well, my full name is Ashish Philip Skaria, and I write for Pending Pinstripes, the link I gave up above. I interviewed Brett Marshall, and so you guys want to check it out, go click on that link.

All those exclamations ... that draft pick seemed really enthusiastic.

Then again, if your dream was to play for the New York Yankees ... and there you are ... I can see that excitement

Gah so many exclamation points!!!1!!11
At least he seems excited to play for NY.

[10] I was talking about Hostess Sno-Balls. What did you think?

What did you think?

i thought your name was Schteeve Schweaty

As in Alec Baldwin’s Xmas skit on SNL-very good

how’s life a. phil

i have a slimmer of hope that marshall pans out

How much slimmer?

How much slimmer?

“Tommy Lasorda, after photo” slimmer.

Fabulous.

Can someone go ahead and pull the plug on this season already?

/grumble

Can someone go ahead and pull the plug on this season already?

Jesus. They might as well just let their opponents hit off a tee.

Mussina and Pontoon and pray for Monsoon

So… the Ras gets new life? Or will we see an old friend in Chase? Or a new friend in Phil Coke?

Can someone go ahead and pull the plug on this season already?

Or blow up Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.  Of course, make sure no one is inside first.

Kei is the Key

Life’s good eelz. Gonna be starting freshman year of college in less than three weeks. Excited like crazy.

well it’s good to hear from you. you’re rlyw oldskool. you know i remember you saying you had your own site in the works but you never told us what it was.

where you going to school?

pop by again sometime. i’ll send you more games.

yea, i should’ve but school got so hard and depressing for me that i limited my time on the web as much as possible…i’m going to be going to st. johns university in queens

i’m going to be going to st. johns university in queens

super.  congrats.

Congrats A.Phil.  College is fun.  I miss it.

So the Yankee starting staff right now is:
1. Mussina
2. Ponson
3. Giese
4. Kennedy
5. Rasner

I’m depressed.

Get well soon, Phil Hughes…

Are “Yankees” and “meaningful games in September” starting to drift apart?

Depends what you mean by “meaningful.”

Showery now with 50/60% chance of Tshoers in Scranton.  Wonder if they’ll scrub
Hughes’s start.  If not LoHud has a link to where you can watch the game.

HA! That’s awful. That’s just so incredibly bad. Aging All-Star/Borderline HOFer, Waiver wire fodder, Minor league journeyman, struggling rookie, AAAA pitcher. They may not be the most talented group, but I bet they’d be the best rotation available for the inspiration of a novel.

Man you guys are hilarious.

a phil, does your face still look like a puppy?

Wow.  I wonder if we kept the receipt on Darrel May and Tim Redding.

Man you guys are hilarious.

That’s very… charitable.

Wow.  I wonder if we kept the receipt on Darrel May and Tim Redding.

Can we get Tyler Clippard back too?

Hughes is starting for Scranton.

Hughes is starting for Scranton.

If Kennedy were still down and they brought up Kontos, Scranton’s rotation might be as good as the Yankees rotation right now.

This next week of games is our playoffs, enjoy!

This next week of games is our playoffs, enjoy!

So, the offense isn’t going to hit/score and the starters will suck?

kronic, you’re not supposed to remember that!

[46] Why should the next week be different than any other week this season?

These injuries are starting to become hilarious. I feel like I’m standing next to those violin players on the Titanic.

ANDY PETTITTE UPDATE, 6:46 p.m.: The Daily News reported that Andy Pettitte could miss his start on Sunday with some manner of arm injury.

“News to me,” Joe Girardi said.

Pettitte also said he would make his start and that he felt fine. I watched him play catch in the outfield before we spoke to Girardi and he looked OK to me.

Andy Pettite to RLYW: “Reports of my demise have been greatly exaggerated.”

Let me ask you guys something. If you go to work and lie to your boss, or just make shit up, over and over, you’d probably get fired right?

Let me ask you guys something. If you go to work and lie to your boss, or just make shit up, over and over, you’d probably get fired right?

If you are addressing Congress, UN, potential voters, etc., or you get the drift of what I’m getting at.

Way back in the 20th century, Bill James wrote the first essential book about baseball managers. Chris Jaffe has just written the second.

From now on, whenever I have a question about a manager, Jaffe's book will be the first and last one I reach for.

John Brattain Memorial Fund

The Hardball Times has set up a memorial fund for John Brattain's family. He left behind a wife and two teenage daughters.

Four years ago, I found from personal experience how generous the online community can be to its own in their hour of need. I am now literally begging you to be even more generous than you were to me.
