I am absolutely SHOCKED that the Yankees grounded into a double play with the bases loaded.

Shocked, I say.

And just when everyone is saying Cano’s coming out of it too.

Well, at least Rasner’s first inning dinger was a solo shot this time…

What’s up guys, I’m new to the site, but have been enjoying it for the last few days.  I live in Philly, and this is one of the few games I get to watch.  Hooray FOX.  Too bad the announcers suck.  Go Yanks!

Two K’s in two innings for Damon.

Coming in to this game, Damon had a 1.26 OPS against Bonderman…

Hmmmm, a right handed fly ball pitcher who strikes out few but has excellent control of his fastball and a playable curve ball. If only Rasner had a plus change… he could be Brad Radke. His curve is a pretty solid pitch for him, though.

Including two homers last year…

Wow, and Matsui has 1.435 OPS v. Bonderman!  Which is higher after that single.

Isn’t a single a bad outcome with a 1.435 expectation?

Well, 1/1 with a single would be a 2.0 OPS right?

Right, right.

The game was going well until this thread was created.

Any one else having deja vu with this game?  The first inning looks like the offense is going to blow the barn doors off, and then they sit down and let the start last 6+?

Yeah, seriously.  At least Rasner is looking ok.

Way to go Betemit.

So is it really pronounced like “Beta-meat”?

Hammy… yikes.

From Wikipedia:

Wilson Betemit, pronounced Bay-tah-mee [1], though many broadcasters mispronounce it Bet-uh-mit,

Ah, okay.  I think I heard John Miller calling him Bay-tah-meet with the t, and that just really sounded wrong.  I like Bay-tah-mee.

Good thing Bonderman is pitching around the #9 hitter to get to Damon.

Someone ought to change Moeller’s wikipedia page for a second to say his name is pronounced Moello (pronounced Muryo, I guess)…

Bet-uh-oh with that hammy.

Poor guy.

Has Betemit had hammy history?  Or injury history in general?

What a terrible break for Wilson. He had a great approach at the plate and looked primed for a hot streak. Hopefully it’s just discomfort and not a pull.

Joe says probably a couple days, which means we’ll see Betemit in July.

Couple days?  That could even be Joe-speak for having to be put down.

DaPuj- Hopefully not on the field.

Maybe opens a way to get IPK up for Igawa’s next start.

Maybe opens a way to get IPK up for Igawa’s next start.

David Wells should be ready by then.

Nice pop-up slide from Abreu.  Why can he do that, and not make a play at the wall?

"David Wells should be ready by then.”
For what?
A heart attack?

Ready for his second breakfast?

Bonderman had an interesting game.

For what?
A heart attack?

Big sumo match.

There is nothing good that can come out of David Wells pitching at this point.

unless it’s him pitching for the sox.

Clay- Maybe it could indirectly cure cancer.

OK, nothing foreseeable.

If he could make a play at the wall too, you’d be asking why he can’t throw a good change-up.  He’s a pretty complete player as is.

Bonderman had an interesting game.

What adjective would you use for Kei Igawa’s game yesterday?

What adjective would you use for Kei Igawa’s game yesterday?

fascinating?

sorry about that, forgot the ‘i.’

EB- Kid Igawa had an interesting game for him: he gave up a lot of runs without giving up a home run or walking anyone.

BASECLOGGER!!!

bases unclogged.

You haven’t been fast enough to blow the stop sign since 1996, Jason.

rLr- He blew the freakin’ stop sign?
All those stolen bases have gone to his head.
(he was never fast enough to blow past the stop sign)

In brighter news: how close are we to saying Cano is out of his slump?

So did he get caught in a rundown?

Someone’s got to take up the base running slack with Posada injured.

First walk.

(he was never fast enough to blow past the stop sign)

When he played third or even short in high school, he might have had a chance.

Oh captain!

What kind of shift was on to have Cano at first?

Tigers had the hit and run on, Renteria lined out sharp to Jeter… Sheff was already at second and didn’t move to go back, so Cano just had to tag him out.

Sheff was running on the pitch and Jeter flipped to Cano to put on the tag.

Bunny- ah
Thank you
I probably should have figured that out.

"strained right hamstring” for Wilson

Which of course means almost nothing.

Especially since its really difficult to diagnose an injury immediately after due to swelling.

Since when does Robinson Cano run well?

uh, compared to Posado and Giambi he’s a gazelle, idk.

Ok, so what do you think will go down with this Betemit injury?  Will they bring up Kennedy or an infielder?  Assuming another DL trip for Wilson.

uh, compared to Posado and Giambi he’s a gazelle, idk.

So is my grandmother and she died in 2003.

Ok, so what do you think will go down with this Betemit injury?  Will they bring up Kennedy or an infielder?  Assuming another DL trip for Wilson.

Return of the former Attorney General, I figger.

Ok, so what do you think will go down with this Betemit injury?  Will they bring up Kennedy or an infielder?  Assuming another DL trip for Wilson.

Kennedy’ return will be based on his readiness to pitch in the bigs again, not on the team’s needs.

It Wilson is DLEd, I suspect the former Attorney General will fill in until ARod is activated.

The was awfully nonchalant by Jeter and Cano.

Cy Rasner!

Rasner is apparently an ace. Who knew?

That Wells injury reminds me of Matsui’s from a couple years ago.  Eesh.

Good running catch by Joyce probably just took another XBH from Abreu.

The shoehorn! That’s the first worthwhile thing I’ve ever seen on a Fox broadcast. It is a clever widget.

That Wells injury reminds me of Matsui’s from a couple years ago.  Eesh.

That was, indeed, quite ugly. And that team sucks at hitting enough already.

That was really an excellent catch by Joyce. His excellent jump obscured the amount of ground he had to cover. He’s a pretty skilled player.

That Just For Men commercial is the worst thing I have ever seen.

And you just know I wanted to sneak another excellent there. Couldn’t do it.

That Just For Men commercial is the worst thing I have ever seen.

No play for Mr. Gray.

Your beard is weird.

Excellent, Matt, Excellent.

And you just know I wanted to sneak another excellent there. Couldn’t do it.

It’s something at which you really excel, your excellency.

Hell of a show for Rasner.

Good job by the Razz. I’ve liked the cut of his jib for a couple of years now.

I still distinctly remember Rasner being 3-0 after he came up in ’06 and PRAYING he could steal the game 4 starter slot from Jaret Wright. Unfortunately, the O’s bombed him in late September and it never became a legit possibility. But I’ve always been a Rasner fan.

That’s our Farnsy.

Farnsworth is back.

where did good Kyle go?

It was a hanging slider Karros, for God’s sake.

That sucks for Rasner. Fuck you, Farnsworth.

Renteria now 0 for his last 14 against Farnsworth.  Last hit was in 2001.

Good Kyle was suspended by the leauge.  Farnsworthless is the one who came back from suspension.

Polanco has the strangest shaped head I’ve ever seen.

I think he has gills.

Rodriguez swung at ball four twice. Thanks, buddy.

I hate FOX.

Joba up in the pen.

Polanco has the strangest shaped head I’ve ever seen.

He looks like a younger Dominican version of John McCain.

Maximum unclutchitude by the Detroits.

So, Mo for another save tonight it would seem.

Nascar makes me laugh for some reason. Some kind of flighty philosophical feeling bought on by seeing people driving in circles.

Think Mo ordered Farnsworth to give up a run so he could get a save in here?

Nascar makes me laugh for some reason. Some kind of flighty philosophical feeling bought on by seeing people driving in circles.

NASCAR is the perfect metaphor for United States energy policy. Burning up lots of petroleum and getting nowhere in particular.

Nice, rLr

Joba...still good.

LrL: Dominican version of John McCain is spot on.

NASCAR races are fun once in a while...but not as good as Formula I

Joba, you’re a wonderful human being.

This game should finish in just enough time for me to change for my race.

Good timing Yanks!

This game should finish in just enough time for me to change for my race.

Careful out there. I understand Darlington is a dangerous track.

Lame duck hit by Damon, nice to see it balance out Cano’s line drive.

Breaks his oh-fer

Yeah, I imagine I’d have some difficulty running there, with all the cars and all, and it would rip the hell out of my spikes.

Easy, Cruceta. Your team is down by three.

I already left my races at Belmont Churchill, etc.  I much prefer the kind you can wager on.

I always thought Rasner would be OK if given a chance-Karstnes not so much.

Kei was unlucky in the 3rd last night but he was VERY lucky to even get out of the first.  It would be nice if he never starts another game for us.

I would not complain if Kei Igawa had a career ending injury.

I would, but just because I dislike him so much.

Cann’t Kartsens be traded for a backup^2 catcher or a bullpen arm?

Mo is unstoppable.

Mo feels far more natural now that the pesky base runner is gone.

I get the feeling that Posada and Rivera are extra-motivated to do well since they got their generous contracts.  Quite different than what happens when the standard mercinary gets a slightly excessive contract.

Kev I never ever say shit like that about a player.
Special K has changed my outlook.
I love Mo more than most of my family.

nice. I’m off to go cause myself as much pain as possible.

Rasner now has more wins as a Yankee than Pavano.

Next year Igawa and Pavano will be chuckling together while drinking Pina Colada’s at a Club Med somewhere.

Cano now has the best BB/PA and BB/K rates of his career. His outs were hard hit and he got on base twice for the third game in a row.

Can’t Kartsens be traded for a backup catcher or a bullpen arm?

I don’t think he’s even that valuable.

Rasner now has more wins as a Yankee than Pavano.

That is a stunning and depressing fact.

I guess we won’t be sending Robby to Scranton soon?

Yankees were a little unlucky with Pavano-the Red Sox wanted him also.  However Wright, Igawa, and Woemack signings were indefensible.

I find it hard to blame them for Womack.  He had a skill set at the time that matched the Yankees’ needs.

Wright, Igawa, and Woemack signings were indefensible.

And the Johnson trade. Fuck the Johnson trade. Fuck Randy Johnson. I hope his illegitimate daughter hits him with a car.

I find it hard to blame them for Womack.  He had a skill set at the time that matched the Yankees’ needs.

Playing lousy defense and hitting pop-ups? They could have paid me to do that.

The stat head guys I knew told me at the time of his signing that it was a terrible signing.

Has anyone seen THe Painted Viel? The Mrs DVR’rd it. Think I’m in for a bad couppla hours.

In each and every year that Woemack was a full time player he never had an OPS+ over 100.  His lifetime best was 91 his last year as a Cardinal.  Now that’s suckitude.

Womack was signed because Dave Roberts had a big steal in the 2004 ALCS. The only reason the Yankees signed him was because he was fairly fast.

I think I’ll do a shot of Flomaxx chase it with a La Fin Du Monde and pretend its a John Candy movie.

meh. anything about veils would worry me too.

Veils sound kinda sexy.  Dancing harem girls.  Caligola 2008 starring Halle Berry.

the only thing john candy ever used a veil for was a napkin.

Yuze guyz slay me.

rereading it, i don’t know if that sentence makes any sense. all i know is i just spent 6 hours giving out free guitar lessons in prospect park and all i got was sunburnt and c-blocked by 5 year old brats.

Go Yanks!

rereading it, that doesn’t seem appropriate.

frrt.

Bad news Betmit to DL.  Worse news Karstens ready to start rehab assignment.

So, who DO you think will get the next start? Igawa or Kennedy?

As for Womack, that was because Cairo’s agent tried to get the Yankees to spring for an extra million or something like that. And seriously, while Womack sucked and I didn’t like the signing, it wasn’t like Cairo was going to be much better.

Rasner is awesome. I have always loved that guy way too much, so I’m pleased he’s earning it now.

eelz212, how difficult is it to start trying to learn the guitar at around middle age?  i mean, how long before someone can play a reasonable song or two?

vil i guess i don’t know what it’s like to be middle aged, but based on people i work with and play with it doesn’t seem like too much of a struggle.  it’s probably better to start as a kid, because they don’t realize things like reading notes are hard. i always wish my parents had had me take lessons back then. of course i also wish they had me throw lefty and gotten my tommy john surgery over and done with.

the school i’ve been working at a bit caters to adults and children alike. the majority of the classes are after work hours and are in a group setting. as a middle ager you have the advantage of having some intellect to break things down but there are also the hangups, like finding the time to practice, beer, and maybe putting yourself down because you’ll never get to be a 20 year old rock star. that’s up to you though.

to answer your question though, you can learn all the chords you need to play about 10,000 songs in a day, and then if you work at it you could start moving really comfortably between them in about 6 weeks (depending on how consistently you practice. think maybe 45 solid minutes three times per week). by the third lesson of the absolute begginer course at my school you know four chords that’ll give you access to MAD SONGS (Love Hurts, Every Breath you take, Stand By Me, Blue Moon, Dream, Last Kiss, Donna, Aerosmith, Jackson Browne, etc. etc. etc.). it’s amazing how far a few chords can take you.

do you live in the city??

unless by reasonable you meant DragonForce

couldn’t take the movie anymore otf?

Blue Moon is an amazing tune. I still love it after 27 hundred plays. So is Under the Boardwalk. And Del Shannons Runaway.
the difference between songs that suck and songs that are great, is so small.
If white guys recorded Duke of Earl or King of Rock those classics would not have reached a dozen ears. See Pat Boone.
Glad that question was directed at you Eelz.
I would have spent 45 minutes bragging about mastering the bass licks in the Barney Miller Theme. I worked on that shit for weeks, back in cold war daze.

haha. how about Freeway Jam?

Movie better than expected. Ed Norton as a British doctor with sexual hangups. Yawn. Just taking a RLYWL break. I’m dying to put a Zappa DVD on.

I would hit .423 offa Koufax before attemtpting Freeway Jam in public.

i kinda wanna see Iron Man.

Film blew. No American History X.
I hate English dramas/love storys.

i kinda wanna see Iron Man.

Iron Man was awesome!

Iron Man was awesome. Definitely see it.

I’m assuming Cano’s hot streak is him turning a corner. He never turns it this early, which should help since he’s never been this bad before.

Now Giambi’s hot streak, I’m not sure. He’s had a really good run, hit against HRs two different teams (and pitchers) in the last week. I want to believe he’s getting it together, but I’m not positive. How does everyone else feel?
