NY Post - Sherman: GIRARDI SHOULDN’T TRY TO BE THE NEXT JOE
Now it’s the Yanks who have atmospheric and fraternal issues, and Girardi’s bosses have quietly asked him to make adjustments. They recognize his lack of a human touch not only looks terrible following Torre, but has brought about a tension that has begun to suffocate the team. Again, Girardi can’t be Torre. He is not going to learn in one offseason how to project wise grandfather rather than marine drill instructor.
Comments
i think there is already a pretty good parallel for Girardi right there in Tom Coughlin.
Coughlin had the exact same reputation two years ago: humorless taskmaster, cantakerous with the media, dysfunctional locker room, etc.
the Giants put together a formal player’s council to help facilitate communication both ways, and the players made it clear that Coughlin had to loosen up.
i don’t think it needs to be anything so formal, but reaching out the veterans on the team and making an effort to relax would probably go a long way.
if Coughlin can loosen up, Girardi can also make the changes he needs to.
he’s learning on the job. he’ll be fine.

Only Jeter makes that play
For those who may be wondering, Phil Hughes pitched five innings of one run ball with a 10:2 gb:fb ratio for the Peoria Javelinas.
nice, thanks for the update.
Morgan and Miller 2nd and 3rd no out extolling the virtues of a ground ball.
3 run HR=> then ground out
Peoria Javelinas?? I thought that was the Iowa State track and field squad.
Only threw 79 pitches, they must have him on an inning limit. Or thinking about it, they probably have all the starters go no more than 5 to get work for the rest of the pitchers.
And I stupidly thought Lester was better then Hughes. Go Rays!
I kinda wish they had done this to Matsuzaka and not Lester.
Hughes strike outs and walks down from first start-I suppose that’s more good then bad.
It will be small solace at least for the Yankee’s season if Boston loses in any way, shape or form.
I am enjoying this game thoroughly…
That was a paddlin’.
Hat tip to Garza. Well-pitched game.
watching guys like B.J. Upton reminds you that the Yankees have to draft and develop players with that sort of athletic ability.
It’s not hard to find that sort of athletic ability when you have the 1st or 2nd pick in the draft. Him and Longoria were primo talents from the get-go.

Ugh, please don’t post the opinion of that moron here. If I wanted to read his opinions, I would go to his site. I don’t, and would like to keep it that way.
As much as I appreciate his hard work to get news up as quickly as possible, his analysis is of very low quality.
Tie ballgame. I believe the Phillies would be winning this one if <strike>Hargrove</strike> Manuel hadn’t mismanaged it.
Athletic ability is all well and good, but I’ll take Jason Giambi circa 2000, Barry Bonds circa 2002, David Ortiz circa 2006 and Travis Hafner circa 2006 over BJ Upton’s best year anytime.
A couple of years ago the Yankees used their first pick to draft the most athletic player available: CJ Henry. That went well.
Yes, but the media heart it somewhere and now that’s going to become the new reason why the Yanks aren’t winning.
I think it makes sense - the Yankees should be getting more draft picks within the first five picks.
That follows perfect logic.
Wouldn’t you want David Price? He’s awesome!
So what’s the deal, Cashman?!? Do you WANT to lose?!? Get more #1 overall draft picks!
Anyhow, yeah, that was a pretty dumb thing to argue - the Yankees should get more guys like BJ Upton…lordy (and the most amusing thing is that, in Jeter and A-Rod, they HAVE two guys who are just like Upton and Longoria - just older).
