NY Post: ‘FRAUD’ IS ‘JOBA’ THE NUT

It was nothing but a con Joba.

A New Jersey screwball who is a dead ringer for Joba Chamberlain told The Post he enjoyed summer of fun impersonating the Yankee pitcher - improving his stats with the ladies, while scoring free food and drinks.

Awesome. If youre dumb enough to fall for something like that you deserve it.

Hey, they should sign him up and trade him for Colby Rasmus and Pujols. “We’ve secretly replaced Joba Chamberlain with a dumbass lookalike.  Let’s see if anyone notices…”

Smoke ‘em if you got ‘em.

Me, I’m a dead ringer for Melky Cabrera.  I spent the summer impersonating him, scoring free drinks and ladies, but then it was June, and nobody was impressed anymore.  And then it was August and they started asking me why I wasn’t in Pennsylvania.

That guy could impersonate Chris Britton just fine as well.

That guy could impersonate Chris Britton just fine as well.

But then, instead of scoring free food and drinks, they’d have kept trying to stick him on a bus to Scranton.

Oh goody.  West coast games.

That guy could impersonate Chris Britton just fine as well.

Am I the only one who recalls a Yankee game this past season on TBS, where the idiots announcers (Skip Caray and Tim McCarver) were going on and on about Joba Chamberlain going from the rotation to the bullpen. The camera man held a shot of Chamberlain hanging out in the bullpen during the conversation.

Except it was actually Chris Britton.

Back to baseball.

Salty’s stock is low with his season ending injury. Wonder what it’d take to make a move for him.

What’s with the star? Do you bat left handed?

Considering he’ll be visiting with Dr. <strike>Doom</strike> Andrews, I’d be a little gunshy on him.

No, I use PEDs to enhance my posting prowess.

Sweet. That definitely lowers the price tag. Suttle for Saltalamacchia. Oh wait, Suttle is nothing yet. We already had this conversation.

So for work I was reading Science magazine, and came across a reference to Extreme ironing

Extreme Ironing (or EI) is an extreme sport and a performance art in which people take an ironing board to a remote location and iron a few items of clothing. According to the official website, extreme ironing is “the latest danger sport that combines the thrills of an extreme outdoor activity with the satisfaction of a well-pressed shirt.”

Um, okay.

Can you link the article?  Sounds scintillating!

Salty’s stock is low with his season ending injury. Wonder what it’d take to make a move for him.

What would be the point of getting Salty at right now?  In case Posada doesn’t recover from injury?  To move Posada to first?  Or are you thinking of getting rid of Molina and Salty transistioning to be the starter over the next couple of years?

Not that Saltalamacchia isn’t a good prospect, I’m just not sure if he’s worth the cost right now, given that the Yankees, finally, have some catching prospects in the pipe.  If there is a greater plan however, it could be a good one.

What would be the point of getting Salty at right now?

You’re right about the catching situation being better than it has been in years.

I like picking up Saltalamacchia, moving Molina, and putting Montero on the path to being a 1B. I have a feeling by the end of his contract, Po is going to be seeing more games at 1B/DH than at C.

I’m just not sure if he’s worth the cost right now

Well that’s certainly the rub - what would he cost?

And to be honest, if the Yankees have any resources in terms of talent that they can trade, they need a CFer more than anything.

Astronomers are weird

Not so much reading for work, just saw it in science while looking for any interesting molecules.

Well that’s certainly the rub - what would he cost?

Depends on which Jon Daniels answers the phone. The one who gave away Chris Young, John Danks, and Adrian Gonzalez or the one who restocked the Rangers farm system at the deadline last year.

And to be honest, if the Yankees have any resources in terms of talent that they can trade, they need a CFer more than anything.

Even that’s though with Jackson on the way.  True he may not be more than a 4th outfielder, but now’s not the time to block him…and I don’t think if the Yankees have any talent to trade they should be using it for stop-gaps.

Honestly, I’m thinking if they do any trades this off-season, it should be to get prospects, not get rid of them.  Really that only means Matsui and Damon (with their NTC’s and all that), so I’m not sure if that would happen.  At least, until they’ve exhausted their options in free-agency.  If they can improve (offense, defense, or both) at 1B, RF (probably Nady), and LF, and hopefully sign CC, I’d be willing to start the year with Gardner or Melky in CF.  Save the trade-chips and see what happens during the year.

Are they really blocking Jackson by getting a CF?  Damon’s contract is up after 2009, right?  So he plays somewhere, either CF or a corner in 2010, as long as he’s ready.  If he’s not, he’s not being blocked by a FA signed in 2008 offseason.

Now, that being said, I do agree with you on going with Gardner/Melky in CF if they can upgrade 1B, RF, and possibly the biggest position 2B (trading Bad Cano for Good Cano).

Thanks for the linkage, Puj.

possibly the biggest position 2B (trading Bad Cano for Good Cano).

Kevin Russo, who has quietly had a pretty good year, will also provide some depth to that position next year as well, in case Bad Robbie shows up again. Two months into 09, Russo will probably be able to come up and help if he’s needed.

Well I’m upgrading LF (or RF) first.  You are correct the other corner may be open by 2010.  I’m just not sure if CF is a place to be using resources right now.  My main thing is, before talking about trading for players, I hope they explore the FA market fully.  I think there’s enough out there to reload the team for the next several years, and keep the trade-chips to fill holes afterwards.  If they fail to fill holes through FA this year, then sure, explore trades.

Just looked him up.  I don’t know if he’ll be ready by next June; at least not to help “Bad Robbie”.  I’m not saying I don’t believe he could be a useful player, but he doesn’t seem to have knock-you-out #‘s.  I’m thinking he could use a full-season of AAA ball.  I WILL be happy if he takes Bernie Castro’s playing time in Scranton though!

My friend sent me the same link to the Joba impersonator story, and then told me to read the comments.  Here’s one Mensa-hopeful’s reaction:

I don’t believe this story for a second. This reeks of Joba abusing his star power and paying off this poor slob to take the hit for him. Shame on him.

Oh definitely. But he will be there in case he’s needed and he’s a much better safety net than AG was. And PECOTA (relatively) loved him at the beginning of the year and he’s posted a .281 EQA as a 23 year old in AA so I imagine it will continue to love him. You’ll have to keep us posted on how he looks next year.

Definitely.

I’ll do the best I can; sometimes I think Dave Miley intentionally doesn’t play the players I want to see!

interestingly enough, check out the numbers of the guy the yankees got for AG.

26 K in 19.3 IP in Trenton.  currently their go to guy out of the pen.

could be another shrewd bullpen pickup.

could be another shrewd bullpen pickup.

Cashman has done an excellent job putting together a bullpen.

Now let’s see him put together a starting rotation.

And a few infielders and outfielders who can hit and catch the ball.

John Brattain Memorial Fund

The Hardball Times has set up a memorial fund for John Brattain's family. He left behind a wife and two teenage daughters.

Four years ago, I found from personal experience how generous the online community can be to its own in their hour of need. I am now literally begging you to be even more generous than you were to me.
