Whatever. Beat the piss out of this joker.
Pick the big fella up.
100- Yes he should have had it. Not easy. Still should have had it.
thanks Thurm-its been awhile. Yeah according to Sterling he got his glove on it
Fukkin Ace!!!
[100] Seemed like Melky maybe was playing in a bit. Not sure if he shoulda.
I think we’ve been conditioned to expect him to get to those because of recent balls he’s run down.
That was tense.
Time for some runs off Mr. Poetry.
ARod’s entrance music - Jay-Z
Slaincha Joel.
I’ve got bad memories of this Baptista. He seemingly has most of the time been tough on the Yanks. He pitched one of the close games in the 01 WS at Yankee Stadium. I think it was the first of the three wins. He’s also been tough pitching for the Jays. I can’t remember too many games that we have had a good time against him.
I would like a 2-out rally, capped by Melky RBIs, and an error. Thanks.
108- should be Manilow… Kenny G? I know I’m a farns but its fun.
[110] +1 for using “Baptista”, and really the Yankees didn’t hit ANYTHING in that 01 WS, no matter who they were facing.
Intro for Matsuio-Secret Asian Man?
Swisher, any time you feel like contributing would be great, thanks.
That Korean dude may disagree.
113- What about Kim?
It would be nice it this half-inning didn’t involve as much pucker factor as the last.
Matsui use to have Godzilla as his entrance music, I will try to pay attention and see if that is still the case next inning.
Soriano used Baby I Got Your Money by ODB back when he was with the team, that was pretty awesome.
Byung Il Shot.
[117] Good point.
Kim Il Deep.
Yankee fans shouldn’t do the wave, because it is lowest common denominator type stuff, like thunder sticks and homer hankies.
Ace ... Wow. Pickoff on a very strange steal attempt.
Time to win.
Dear Everyone,
What in the name of the Steve Trout happened to Sabathia?
A hit by one of the next two batters would be nice.
Cervello is due right about now.
[126] Everything was up, and he got hammered.
125- Pete he had his every 5 or 6 weeks, me suck game. It happens. Bats will pick him up….. next inning.
Bottom eighth is where the runs will occur. Yankee runs. In bunches.
ARod ties this game in the 8th.
That was pretty poor. Leadoff double-nothing to show for it. Should Gardner have run for Mats and stolen third? Of course someone still has to hit the ball
Thanks.
I’m presuming, [129] notwithstanding, that we haven’t concluded that his fastball just isn’t good enough for him to blow away hitters with high cheese?
It occurs to me that “blowing cheese” may be the single worst mixed metaphor I’ve ever encountered.
Damon wanted an excuse to show off his arm.
Now hear this. Now hear this. Johnny Damon just threw out a runner trying to stretch a double. That was Johnny. Damon.
Aceves is a stud. He’s really helped out in the pen. Got to give Cash credit for that guy.
Here come the runs…positive thoughts…positive thoughts…
Trader.
Currently posting from my seat at The Stadium - RLYW first?
Don’t depair. It actually has to happen this way if we want the Melky walk-off.
[140] Tell the douches at the Stadium to stop doing the wave. Yankees fans are better than that, better than that.
Apparently the 2-3-4 Yankee hitters decided to take the night off.
“IT IS HIGH, IT IS FAR, IT IS…CAUGHT AT THE WALL!”
I hate you John Sterling, truly hate you.
Mrs. Otf brought this up after Ichiro’s last pa.
Trying to phrase this properly…...perhaps he’s not crazy about Girls Gone Wild.
Tex looks like crap tonight.
I couldn’t agree more - no one listen to me. RF upper deck was relentless.
And what is up with Teix tonight?
perhaps he’s not crazy about Girls Gone Wild.
What, you mean, he flits, he floats, he fleetly flees he flies?
Game.
Over.
148- I love Mel Allen.
Tell the douches at the Stadium to stop doing the wave.
One of my favorite moments at OYS was sitting in the right field seats, and a bunch of jackasses were trying to get the wave going. Each time it got to the bleachers, the creatures booed it down. Around the third time, they started a chant: “Take the wave to Shea,” which seemed to work.
What, you mean, he flits, he floats, he fleetly flees he flies?
Could I be the only one who got this reference?
Glimm? Was he getting crap? I must be very naive because I never ever noticed this before.
Aceves’s flyball tendencies should disqualify him from pitching in the late innings in close games.
[153]
No, Jonathan.
I’m sure that not only yeu got it, but also yeu and yeu and yeu (pointing at select other posters)
Easy 5 spot.
Ever since the word “douche” appeared in the blog, the ads changed over the Boston.
Or maybe it was the flit/float thing.
Bah? Aceves has been a super-solid pitcher for the Yanks. He has a 2.25 ERA, even after that homer, and got them out of a bases-loaded jam in the 6th. They wouldn’t have been in a close game if it wasn’t for him.
Is a Melky walk off now mathematically possible?
Alice Cooper- 157- I wanna be selected.
[160] Yes, just not in the 9th.
156-he he.
[159] His FB percentage is 50.5 %. It makes sense to use him in some situations, but not others. That hardly diminishes what he has accomplished when used correctly.
Here he comes. Here comes your lover man. Hendrix-1968.
Matsui is now using “Battle Without Honor or Humanity” from Kill Bill as his entrance music.
This has the potential (knocking on wood) to be an epic at-bat.
veras.
I knocked, damn it! More than I even should have had to!
I hate that!
mondesi.
[164] - I could see not bringing him in with <2 outs and the tying/go ahead run on third, but other than that, I’m not sure what other situations it matters that he’s more flyball than groundball. If he’s effective, he’s effective. I might quibble with sending him out for the 9th after 2.1 innings, but that’s just because of # of pitches, not leverage.
torre.
Blast. I had a good feeling about that inning during Matsui’s AB.
They deserved to lose based on the fans doing the wave, its karma.
New streak starts tomorrow.
Tartabull
I’m sure that not only yeu got it, but also yeu and yeu and yeu (pointing at select other posters)
I’m not going to admit this to anyone in person, but I really like that movie. Even if it has singing Nazis.
I’m not going to admit this to anyone in person, but I really like that movie. Even if it has singing Nazis.
Actually, because it has singing nazis.
Singing Nazis beat murdering Nazis every time. Just sayin.
Hall.
But is it yet springtime for them?
179- Maybe not in battle….
[171] I don’t understand why it makes sense to use a pitcher who gives up 14% more FBs than average in close and late situations, when there are less opportunities for the offense to compensate for the consequences of HRs, given that on average 10-11% of FBs become HRs. Obviously, groundballs present no such potential danger.
[Dale] Murray.
In fact, I raise you one Loaiza and one Dotson.
Your move, Mr. Fan.
OTF is gone. Ah well, let’s McCullers the whole thing off.
[183] - HR/FB is something that a pitcher does have control over. Some pitchers have lower HR rates than others, and it’s actually decently stable. Aceves also doesn’t walk many batters, and doesn’t give up many line-drives (LD% is .18). Walking guys and having line drives hit off you is as much a recipe for losing a lead as giving up solo homers. He had given up 4 HR this season before tonight, so counting tonight’s he’s given up 5 HR in 1.25 HR/9. Not great, but not terrible (Mo is at 1.4, which isn’t a good thing, but he’s been pretty good even despite this).
Basically, I guess my point is that Aceves has been one of the most reliable members of the bullpen this season, and probably the consistently best non-Mo reliever. I am perfectly comfortable with him in close and late situations.
I probably would have had someone else start the 9th as well though.
Montero hit his 5th HR in 4 games.
Promote him.
to the majors.
Feels like the Yanks should be closer than 3 back of the BoSox.
Sweet. Posada is a little banged up and won’t play today.
Thats what makes the record vs. Boston so frustrating.. if they had split with them (which they usually do), they’d be +1.
Actually, if they had gone 4-4, they’d be up 4.5 games on Boston.
Math fail on my part. They’d be up 5 games. If they had gone 2-6, they’d be up a game.
No chatter?
