Booooooooooooo.
Here comes 501
One batter away from Markakis too. This game was a bitch for the first 7 innings. Hopefully these last couple won’t be a cocktease.
[294] No thurm. Girardi muffed this game by taking out Hughes.
Pap in for a five out save.
My housemate and I once concluded that while Joba and Papelbon might have fun umpiring, they’d punch way too many guys out to really be fair to the hitters.
That was a classic Griffey swing.
Ump giving douchebag complete gift strikes in Balt.
[286] - Does 1 inning count as “brief”? Bruney was defnitely “generally ineffective”, but I’ve seen a number of wins given to relievers who’ve blown saves of 1 or 2 runs.
Bosox 10, O’s 11.
Papelbum
O’s take the lead!
Go Markakis!!! O’s up!!!!!!!!!!!
Baltimore takes the lead against Papelbon !
This is AWESOME!!! What a comeback by the Birds!!!!
Nick Markakis is one of my favorite non-Yankees. He’s just a complete ballplayer.
Markakis!!!
68% for Boston to suddenly 87% for Baltimore.
So cool.
Mariano is soooo money…
I even stopped paying attention to the Yankees. Mo is so boringly good most of the time. Papelbon, not so much.
I just came home from the bar - heard the Yanks go up on the way home - sat down at the old CPU with a bowl of ice cream, and I see Gameday telling me “run(s)” with Papelbon on the mound. I remember the O’s down, what, 10-1? Life is good.
Good night. Sweet.
Up to George Sherrill in the 9th.
Top of the 9th coming up.
Suck it Papelbon. Suck it.
I really enjoy it when that guy fails.
[323] I am feeling a wave of consolation building up.
I really enjoy it when that guy fails.
It’s really the sweetest pleasure. That it happened with the Sox at one point up by 9 makes it almost sublime. Come on Sherrill.
George Sherrill, you suck. And you aren’t cool enough to pull off the flat brim.
George Sherrill, you suck. And you aren’t cool enough to pull off the flat brim.
hey, you still gotta root for the guy right now, at least. Ixnay on auntingtay the ooltay.
Grab your crotch and walk to the dugout Julio.
We earned this.
Sherrill got bailed out by the ump on that pitch…
Red Sox fans hate Lugo…
Wouldn’t the midget GIDP be the awesomest here.
He’s an angry elf.
I hope Youklis gets called out on strikes, preferably on something waayyy outside of the zone.
Go bake me a cookie.
Ugh. Hang over the plate some more.
Well, Bay is certainly due to be teh unclutch.
I like seeing the goon howl in pain. That’s worth facing another batter.
I’m gonna be sick if they blow this.
You know, as bad as we complain about how the MSM loves the Red Sox too much, think about how it must be for O’s fans - their OWN TEAM’S media loves the Red Sox.
The Yankees at least make sure to hire homers for their broadcasters.
O’s win.
Yes!
That’d be the butt, Bob.
HAHAHAHAHAHA!
WAHAHAHAHAH!!
Nice…
Awesome ending.
Awesome day all around.
Nice win for Baltimore there. They beat Boston before the Yankees this year
Not pretty, but good enough, Sherrill. You still suck and look dumb with that cap, though.
And John Smoltz is still winless.
Gary Thorne, though, has got to be the most annoying “good” announcer to listen to if he’s your home team’s announcer. He OBVIOUSLY is only the O’s announcer because he can’t get a gig with any of the New York teams, so he’s incredibly dispassionate about the O’s. The first big reaction he gave them in ages was that Markakis double, and, let’s be honest, who the hell could NOT freak out over that hit?
So much for lefty lefty situations…
All the Red Sox batters in the 9th were righties…
Big Papi was on deck…
The morning talk show on WEEI will be great tomorrow AM…
[341] From watching mlb.tv for more than a yr, the Yanks definitely have some of the least homer-ish announcers of all the teams out there. Try watching a White Sox broadcast for example.
The Mets announcers are good. Being at a bar watching F.Martinez in CF fall on his face on a routine flyball was hilarious. The whole bar was laughing hard until that play at the plate followed by the throw to the LF fence had the whole place rolling on the ground. I hope The Mutts keep losing- it’s great.
As far as The Yanks, Cano can’t hit with RISP and even swings at balls at his eyes. And I think that everyone can now agree that Girardi is a bad manager which means he is about average for MLB.
The down size of Hughes designation of full fledge reliever by Girardi, that means 1 inning.
The hell with 70’s style relief, think Mo in 96. That was teh best.
I understand Hughes is slotted in relief, but if Cashman and Girardi have any conversations, don’t Hughes for more than an inning ever come up?
Otherwise, let’s keep this going.
Biggest comeback in Orioles history.
Okay, Bruney is in the pen and he is suppose to be a key arm there. But what is the harm in not using him in teh ate, and giving him some appearances in non teh ate innings, because those innings are just as important, or with the way the Yankee offense goes, all innings are important until the game is over.
Please stop with these LaRussa roles thing.
Good trade + Yanks win + Sox lose = Nice night
Amen on all counts.
