The Mariners have a winning record?

Mo is throwing out the first pitch.  Can the Yanks count it as a strike?

0-3 with a 5.64 ERA. Has the Yankee faced this kid before? I’m sensing getting 3 hit max tonight, if so.

The Mariners are still in the league?

and that was his most valuable game appearance ever, according to WPA.

and that was his most valuable game appearance ever, according to WPA.

Until tonight….

actually, only in 2008.  He had one better game in 2007.

So we’re looking at a delay?  But maybe not a very long one?

The Mariners were going to transition Morrow from starter to closer then reversed course.  Their version of Joba.

So we’re looking at a delay?  But maybe not a very long one?

UPDATE, 6:47 p.m.: We’re not starting on time, that much I can tell you. It’s raining and the tarp is down. As always, we’ll keep you posted.

7:45 first pitch apparently.

Rich Hill is the suck.

I see Cano is still hitting fifth.

Batting order doesn’t matter that much, esp. for this team.  As long as the BUC isn’t batting leadoff there’s no need to complain.

This guy Hill is absolutely terrible.  Batting practice.

Batting order doesn’t matter that much, esp. for this team.  As long as the BUC isn’t batting leadoff there’s no need to complain.

If Cervelli becomes a slap hitter and his knees don’t give out, he might get described as a “leadoff type” occasionally.

First pitch 5:05 - I mean, 8:05.

And we are under-way for another game of unpredictable baseball, Suzyn.

RS beating the Orioles again.

Dog bites man.

Can we face Rich Hill this season?

Junior and Ichiro are BFF’s according to Sterling.

Branyan has 13 SB on his career, seems a bit funny to throw to first.

fucking Smoltz is gonna throw 100 dominant innings, isn’t he?

[22] Yes, and he will hold the Yankees to 1 hit over 7 innings.

And we are under-way for another game of unpredictable baseball, Suzyn.
I think Suzyn is tipsy tonight.. problem for program, Cano is batting second, “junior griffey,” faith for place..

[25] Smoltz will be on the DL by the end of July. Book it.

I find it amuzing that every visiting team’s broadcast crew has to make a point of talking about all the HR’s, how the ball just flies, etc. And then their team hits towering fly balls to RF or right-center and they can just taste it, ready crow about the HR, and the ball comes down short of the track.

Heh ? I thought all you had to do was hit a popup anywhere in right and trot the basepaths ?

I think Suzyn is tipsy tonight.. problem for program, Cano is batting second, “junior griffey,” faith for place..

In fairness, I have heard the “Junior Griffey” nickname used before. The rest of her garbage, though….

O’s are going to set a new level for embarrassment tonight.

[28] I hope she is and it leads to embarrassments that will end her reign.

[32] Worse than when Strawberry beat them up ninja-style in that brawl?

Melky was in slow motion.

how’s Joba’s velocity?

This is not looking good.

DP-Rod !!!

Who’s that kid with the 13 on his back?

A-Rod “drilled Texeira beautifully,” Sterling informs us….

So, that’s what its like to be on the positive side of a GIDP.

nice play by aroid

Seems a bit low, a lot of 91-93 but with some 95s tossed in there.

Gameday has Joba at 92-93 mostly.

So, that’s what its like to be on the positive side of a GIDP.

The Mariner lineup reminds me of those simulations SG did comparing a lineup of scrubs plus 1-2 great hitters against an average lineup.

yeah, NOW you get one through the infield Robbie wink

A dp to end the inning then two hits since the sunny [37].

A dp to end the inning then two hits since the sunny [37].

shh!

He walks up the the bus and gouges it with his house key !!!!

[49] Whoosh.

[50] Godzilla tried to pick the bus up so he could smash it down, but it was too heavy. But he did some damage.

I’ll go sit quietly now.

I got you on 49, Pinstriper. It was a good one, no need for shame.

I am amused that the Yanks found a way to score 2 runs while still being 0-4 with RISP.

Rain delay in Baltimore means I get to watch the Yankees.

Hmm, Cedeno homers.  Another rare accomplishment yielded by a Yankee pitcher.

I will stop watching.

Suzyn sounds exactly like what I image Bilo Sagdiyev would sound like if he were freed from his cage and allowed to do color commentary on the radio.

[55] image = imagine

More strikes Joba.

also, [55] was hilarious.

The Cedeno homer has frightened Joba away from the strikezone.

Joba needs to turn his GPS on and locate the damn strike zone.

It just looks like an awful lot of thoughts going on inside Joba’s head. That can’t be good.

Nice recovery.  Keep it together.

That’s why I enjoy Joba, that was probably the worst inning he will have tonight.

And no more homers to Ronny Cedeno, or anyone else with <5 homers on the year.

Now if he can just be a bit more economical for a few innings, he might get through 7 innings.

Montero tonight: 2 for 3, 2 HR, 3 RBI.  Not bad.  Not bad at all.

[64] I am fine with 5 or 6 from Joba as long as he holds the lead. Hughes is available for 2 or 3 and Mo is available.

Sometimes this offense makes it way too easy for the other team.

[65] JESUS!

That went from okay to terrible in a hurry.

Oh, sure I’m fine with that, but I’d always like to see more innings.

Teh hackitude.

Rain delay in Baltimore means I get to watch the Yankees.

You are physically in Baltimore? Or can you do your job from home?

That one hit 95.

Pitching around the slugger Cedeno.

Arod has looked great on the field lately.

[67] You cannot say it better, or in fewer words.

[74] Its amazing how not being in the midst of playing 38 straight games will make a guy look fresh.

So, this guy throws a 95 mph fastball, and barely another pitch.

Why are the Yankees hacking so much?

You are physically in Baltimore? Or can you do your job from home?

Away games from home.  If I was in Baltimore, I’d be bothering Larry right now.

[77] They are trying to keep every game close so Mo can catch Hoffman.

77 - Well, if you know what is coming and can guess fastball, if you see one you like you should swing, no?

OK, two on and no outs.  Positive thoughts, positive thoughts…...

Mariners have the Yankees right where they want ‘em. Set up for a DP.

I mean, this is not Pedro, you don´t want to force him out of the game, just to hit the Berroa out of him. Why would you put such a premium at working the count in this case?

Mariners have the Yankees right where they want ‘em. Set up for a TP.

Fixed.

OK, three on and no outs.  Positive thoughts, positive thoughts…..

Suicide Squeeze? They never score bases loaded, no outs anyways.

Oh, no. Please, not the bases loaded, nobody out. It is unfair to expect us to score in these situations.

Can this end good?

Bases loaded, no outs, no RISP.

77 - Well, if you know what is coming and can guess fastball, if you see one you like you should swing, no?

Probably, but Morrow walks a ton of hitters too.

What kind of a name is Swisher anyway?

The Yankees MUST lead the universe in bases loaded popups.  Its uncanny.

Swisher has now 5 LOB in 2 ABs, both with no outs.

That was predictable. I wish the stock market could be as predictable.

They basically attempt to score runs without getting the ball out of the infield whenever they have the bases loaded.

Thanks for the productive out Melky, please take note Swisher.

Jeter needs to rattle a double around in the RF corner here.

0-6 with RISP.  Still, 3 runs.

Way back in the 20th century, Bill James wrote the first essential book about baseball managers. Chris Jaffe has just written the second.

From now on, whenever I have a question about a manager, Jaffe's book will be the first and last one I reach for.

John Brattain Memorial Fund

The Hardball Times has set up a memorial fund for John Brattain's family. He left behind a wife and two teenage daughters.

Four years ago, I found from personal experience how generous the online community can be to its own in their hour of need. I am now literally begging you to be even more generous than you were to me.
