Impeaching the Attorney General?

While its not as sexy as those Jarrod Washburn rumors… several places, I saw it at Pete Abe’s place first, have indicated the Dodgers are so desperate for a shortstop they are eyeing the Yankees’ Alberto Gonzalez.

At first I thought that was crazy for a contending team, then I saw they are in the AAAA NL West and that they recently acquired Angel Berroa to fill a need that wasn’t, you know, bagging groceries.

So, what say the masses? What would it take for you to give an old friend a new shortstop?

Me? In my fantasy world, the Yanks maybe ship the Attorney General, with some other distant prospect, to LA for Hong-Chih Kuo.

Yes, Kuo’s had two TJ surgeries and hasn’t shown the stamina to be a starter - but he’s better than Snacks Pontoon and he’s probably cheaper than Washburn.

Hey, our other Taiwanese hurler with a suspect injury history turned out alright, doncha think?

Could Andy LaRoche be taught 1B? They seem to hate him for some reason. Maybe AG and one of the better pitchers in the minors?

I’m assuming Kemp, Kershaw, and Loney wouldn’t even be discussed.

LaRoche isn’t playing because he had wrist surgery recently and it’s sapped his power a bit and they’re worried about his ability to contribute in a playoff race this year. They have not given up on him and they do not hate him and they will not trade him unless their doors are blown off.

The NL West is even worse than the rest of the NL, it might be AAA.5.

Hmm, maybe hate isn’t the right word, but I thought they were not looking at him as a long-term solution at 3B (given the recent demotion and Nomar/Casey Blake/position changes).

Also, it turns out he has been playing some 1B, so I guess I need to pay attention to the minor leagues more.

The NL West is even worse than the rest of the NL, it might be AAA.5.

I don’t think we can use numbers.  It would be AAA+.

I don’t know enough about LA’s farm.  I wouldn’t even worry about getting a player that could contribute this year - other than maybe Lowe - because after last week’s trade the Yankees don’t have too many needs for this year.  Maybe a catcher, but I don’t see them giving up Martin.  I’d rather see the Yankees try to get a player a year or two away that has some serious upside, than a bench-player for this year.

LaTroy Hawkins, Kei Igawa, ex-AG, and Ben Broussard for Martin, LaRoche, and Kershaw.

I see nothing unreasonable in such an offer.  Cash, make it happen!

YM i think bobby maechem for bowa has to be included in there

Here is BP’s list of top Dodgers prospects:

http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=7094

Meloan has just been traded.

Thanks yankz!  Hmm, Elbert?  Adding another LHP can never hurt, he’s high enough on the list to be an actual prospect, but low enough that he may be had.

What’s up with Pete’s conspiracy theory that the Yankees won’t want to help the Dodgers? Would they really hold a grudge if they could rip them off?

Oh yeah, I forgot!  Hell, we could even throw in…ummm…is T-Long still around?  We could sign him just to reunite him and Joe T.!

“Oh yeah, I forgot!  Hell, we could even throw in…ummm…is T-Long still around?  We could sign him just to reunite him and Joe T.!”

But he’s black…and torre hates black people

Kuo is great, Torre was barely throwing him earlier this year but has been doing so more often since june…and now could be a burn out candidate.

stupid questions…can a coach be traded? can there be a player manager? I bet in a pinch girardi can still get behind the plate

wouldn’t you have to put him on the active roster then.  Isn’t that a tragic waste (unless of course its too start Billy Crystal)?

wow that punctuation was all kinds of ugly.  I apologize to all readers.

I like #6s idea. Not firing Meacham is going a little too far with this loyalty thing

The Dodgers have a lot of good young players that they don’t seem to know what to do with, so it’d be great if the Yankees could snag a prospect with some upside for Gonzalez.  Perhaps they’ve lost patience with Chin-Lung Hu, and would deal him for Gonzalez and one of our arms.

Kuo has been pitching really well out of the bullpen lately, so not sure if the Dodgers would want to deal him.

Or, what about Gonzales and an arm for Lowe?

Also, and I know this might be grasping, but would Nomar or Kent be an upgrade over Richie Sexson?  Nomar or Kent plus something for Gonzalez, or Gonzalez plus something?

pete abe’s springsteen blabber has become unbearable

Or how about this:

Melky (or Gardner), Ian Kennedy, and Gonzalez for Matt Kemp.

Torre likes Melky, Ian Kennedy goes back to Southern California, they get the defensive shortstop they need, and we get Kemp.

Don’t we need AG in the chance that Jeter gets hurt?  I really don’t see how he has any actual trade value…

The most exciting part of that article:

Andrew Brackman, who had an appendectomy on June 10, is scheduled to throw off the mound Thursday. He was taken by the Yankees in the first round of the 2007 draft.

Never fear!  Eric Milton is almost here!

Where is that ‘shoot self in face’ smiley when you need it…

I’m off to the game.  If anyone is watching tonight, let me know if you see me… I’ll be the guy running onto the field.

...nekkid?

Apparently hope springs eternal.

we have v. zambrano lurking in the minors???

does tampa have a no backsies clause in kazmir’s contract?

I really don’t see how he has any actual trade value…

yeah, he doesn’t.  he’s a throw in.

Hey, if Tampa turned Victor Zambrano into Scott Kazmir, and Sox turned Casey Fossum + Brandon Lyon into Curt Schilling, it’s not entirely out of realm of possibility that the ex-AG (or AG + X, where X = Kei Igawa) might actually net a useful part.

—-Melky (or Gardner), Ian Kennedy, and Gonzalez for Matt Kemp.—-

That’s the exact trade i thought of as well.  great minds and all.

We should keep Joba, get rid of the other four guys, then we can have a dynamite roation of Joba, Pavano, Hughes, Milton and Zambrano.  September should be a breeze.

Funnily, around 2002 or so most people would have been excited to have Ponson, Milton, Zambrano and Pavano all in the same organization.

Player/managers are legal.  And managers and coaches can be traded.

Kuo has an insane K/9.  I would give Gonzales for him in a heartbeat.

Way back in the 20th century, Bill James wrote the first essential book about baseball managers. Chris Jaffe has just written the second.

From now on, whenever I have a question about a manager, Jaffe's book will be the first and last one I reach for.

John Brattain Memorial Fund

The Hardball Times has set up a memorial fund for John Brattain's family. He left behind a wife and two teenage daughters.

Four years ago, I found from personal experience how generous the online community can be to its own in their hour of need. I am now literally begging you to be even more generous than you were to me.
