Go Rays!
Comments
enjoy everybody.
Sox bury em early and keep em dead.
Too many great players.
Sox are fer sher the greatest baseball team ever.
Pap has proved he’s better than Mo.
Pedroia is Pete Rose with more power.
Youk. What can I say. Dudes better than Gehrig and Millar combined.
Varitek melds the leadership of a Munson with mind numbing displays of power equaled only by the likes of that Piazza dude.
Lester pitched game 7 against the Rockies and won. You heard it on TBS.
Its over. Going to watch me some Bugs and Daffy.
The game was over before it started. Lester will throw a perfect game.
7 up 7 down.
Well, on the plus side ... go Cole Hamels?
There goes the perfect.
and there goes the shutout
Oh please oh please oh please oh please.
Please, don’t pull me over Mr. Officer.
Though I have no love for the man, I appreciate that Dick Vitale is such a committed jackass, and respect that he’s been a dedicated Rays fan since their inception. I guess I’ll feel bad for him when the Sox rip the heart out of his chest in the ninth.
Vitale is monumentally annoying but, yes, he desreves credit for being such a blind, silly Rays follower. I am not even gonna watch the rest of this game because I am quite confident The Rays have no shot.
I wish I really stopped watching. Damn you baseball- I want to be done with you already. I want a divorce.
Captain GIDP
Garza is a beast tonight! Count me a fan of the guy. That Twins GM really made some great moves last offseason. He’s why The Twins are my least favorite small mkt team other than Bahston.
Damn you baseball- I want to be done with you already.
It’s like goddamn herpes. The worst is the bug trap that is the Sox in an elimination game. “Bright light!” I say. “Get a closer look!” ZZAAAP! Why do I bother listening? No cable, I’m double-whammied listening to Joe Morgan on the radio. What the hell am I doing?
this is somethin’ else
It’s not so much seeing the Sox lose as it is seeing their fans miserable. Unfortunately, even if they lose a bad taste will remain due to the hope and joy their fans felt after that game 5 comeback. “Gritty” and “gutsy” and “clutch” still won’t be extinguished if they lose.
Garza is in to pitch the 8th with 116 pitches.
Maddon lost confidence on his pen, beacuse he is an idiot.
Gross in RF? Garza pitching? Maddon is on the take.
“Gritty” and “gutsy” and “clutch” still won’t be extinguished if they lose.
Though it will be bandied about with all the cockiness of one of our pre-2004 “1918” chants when the bastards win tonight. God, how I hate the Sox.
Fucking Bartlet.
Here come the choke.
Fuck.
They are going to loose it.
This had better be D. Price coming in.
As soon as Maddon makes any move I expect disaster. I think I’ll grade papers; that’ll be more fun than the rest of this game.
There is some small consolation: the Rays losing this one must be close to the Yanks’ 2004 choke. Up by seven runs with seven outs to go while up 3-1 in the series can’t be far off the overall chances of winning the series compared to where the Yanks were in the bottom of the 9th in game 4 in 2004. Right? Right?
But Bahstan came back both time, so why do care?
Wheeler is the most nervous pitcher I’ve seen in a while. Of all people why choose him? Granted, I didn’t watch more then 2 innings of last night’s game so I don’t know who’s available…
Yes, why Wheeler? Don’t they have better options?
We all know what’s coming, Ortiz and Pedroia will hit homers in the 9th.
Joe Maddon goes to the Joe Torre school of bullpen management, that’s why.
In the 9th?? No way, they coming to hit now. the game is over!
I don’t think I’ve ever been downwind of a bigger Ortiz three-run dinger than I am right now. Smells like three-day-old sausage and cabbage.
After this 3R Jack Ortiz will go down as the clutchest player ever. That Bartlett error was as routine as it gets- really pisses me off.
I should have known…Ortiz always smelled like fried plantains. What I’m smelling must be Youk.
Here comes Youkiller.
it’s really sad what the red sox have done to you guys.
Mmmm…fried plantains.
DejaDrew all over again.
EELZ!!! What up, yo?
it’s really sad what the red sox have done to you guys
Ixnay on the illingkay ofay everseray inxjay.
Fuckin’ Bartlet
Seriously eelz, you’re ruining it.
Drew with a grand slam? Not how I imagined it, but ah well.
3 outs away.
MVP! MVP!!
Kid’s gonna be a STUD and he doesn’t have any DUI’s yet. Uh-Oh.
be excited. be, be excited.
be excited. be, be excited.
I’ll be truly excited when the stake is through the heart and the head cut off. Until then, I’ll be angry. And tired.
“3 outs away.”
You had to say that.
If you are the Sox, how do you not have Papelshwanz in there in the 8th?
Don’t you want your best to keep it a 2 run affair?
I’m sure Popabone is at ready should anyone reach base.
Watch. Now the Tampa Bat media will be calling for the Rays to make Price their closer next year.
Bay struck out swinging- nice of the ump to save him.
Bunt? What a jackass.
Watch. Now the Tampa Bat media will be calling for the Rays to make Price their closer next year.
Took the words out of my, er, keyboard.
I’m scared.
Stay on target….stay on target….
Kaptain Klatch.
One fucking more out.
*Klutch.
We should temper out enthusiasm- this kid’s gonna be shutting down WOE for quite some time.
YESSSSSS
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
The stake is in! The stake is in!
Not bad for a bunch of chokers.
Matt Garza MVP?
yeaaaaaaaaaaaa :glombi:
Careful with jumping on your closer, people. You want him healthy for the WS!
Finally.
Excellent reverse jinxing tonight, boys (and girl).
I’m so relieved. Thank you, you silly Rays.
Doubt the TB media wants Price to close next year. They’ll want him to pitch teh 8th!
I had no faith they’d get this done tonight. None. Wow, nice job by them.
Careful with jumping on your closer, people.
He is so their new closer. Fools!
What media?
I’m still shocked the place wasn’t >50% Sawks fans. Seems like Sawk/Yanks fans could afford those tix if they can afford Yankee Stadium or Fenway seats…and there are tons of transplants down there.
Go Phills!
FINALLY.
It’s quiet amazing though, what are the odds of a Phillies / Rays playoff ... the team that lost 100000000000000000 games against a team that’s had exactly one winning season in their history
Hmmm, Matt Silverman is kind of hot.
Oops, I’ve said too much.
Garza = MVP.
What, no Miss Congeniality award for Dusty?
The year’s at the spring,
And day’s at the morn;
Morning’s at seven;
The hill-side’s dew-pearled;
The lark’s on the wing;
The snail’s on the thorn;
God’s in his Heaven -
All’s right with the world!
Getting crowded on this bandwagon.
I don’t think I’ve ever been this excited/nervous for a non-Yankee game. How am I supposed to sleep now?
I love been a front-running fan!
Now I can watch the World Series without feeling like I need to kick a kitten every 10 minutes.
I flipped to ESPN and, despite knowing that it’s pretty much Red Sox national affiliate, I still can’t believe my ears.

Matt Garza is a fan of Tupac. He is also an American hero.
TBS: “The Tampa Bay Rays have deafeated one of the classiest teams in sports- the Boston Red Sox.” What a bunch of BS ass-sucking. Typical.
I flipped to ESPN and, despite knowing that it’s pretty much Red Sox national affiliate, I still can’t believe my ears.
Examples? I’ve left it on TBS for some reason but would love to know what is being said.
Oh, they basically said that if not for the injuries BRS would be in the world series, and essentially gave zero credit to the Rays for having had the great PS run that they had. I didn’t linger.
Oh, and Kruk thought Rays were in trouble when Price pumped his fist after he struck out Drew with the bases loaded in the 8th. He just said as much (yes, I had to flip to ESPN again, I’m a glutton for punishment…), again.
Honestly, all props to the Rays, top to bottom, management to players. They’re legit, rightfully having an absolute blast, and I will be very surprised if they aren’t in the thick of it next year. The standard shameful nonsense from ESPN.
That was a tense game with a GREAT result.
Four years ago, Yankees gave me a great birthday present by finishing up their epic choke, literally on my birthday. Thank you Rays for not doing the same!
YM, please marry Matt Silverman and make him trade Price and Upton to the Yankees for Melky, IPK, the YMCA dance, Cotton-Eyed Joe, and the City Council’s private luxury box in the new stadium. .
Sure, you got his number?
The Rays’ public number: (727) 825-3471.
There, I spent 30 seconds doing my part. You can all thank me when Joba and Price are co-WS MVPs.
Rejoice.
i find it interesting that not a single thing was said all week about the massive payroll discrepancy between the Sox and the Rays.
something like $100M.
i guess that’s only part of the narrative when it’s the Yankees playing.
It was an entertaining series.
So, what happens to Varitek now? And how can we convince Theo to keep Mike Timlin on the Sox roster?
i find it interesting that not a single thing was said all week about the massive payroll discrepancy between the Sox and the Rays.
Mike and Mike on ESPN Radio, they were talking about it Friday and again this morning. Not only the Sox but the Yankees too, basically that (paraphrase), “the Rays have such a financial disadvantage it is amazing what they have done”.
Actually not that amazing. What’s commendable is that they’ve accepted sucking for so long to develop their players (with all those high picks), w/o succumbing to trading 3 or 4 blue-chip prospects for, “sure thing” veterans. A.k.a. the Pittsburgh Pirates model. What WILL be amazing is if in three or four years, when their players approach (expensive) FA, if they can keep it going, since they will be drafting near the bottom of the first round for a few years.
Mike and Mike on ESPN Radio, they were talking about it Friday and again this morning.
well, you got me there. i fully admit that i don’t listen to ESPN radio.
it’s interesting you bring up the Pirates. because as much as the Rays success can be attributed to having to many #1 draft picks, you still have to make the right picks. the Pirates are the perfect example of how you can still blow a top 5 pick without good scouting/drafting/management.
the Pirates selected a college reliever over Matt Weiters.
now, it’s not like taking BJ Upton, Evan Longoria, or David Price was rocket science. it wasn’t. those were super obvious picks.
but it still something that teams like the Royals and Pirates haven’t done nearly as well as the Rays.
well, you got me there. i fully admit that i don’t listen to ESPN radio.
When I first got the XM radio I experimented with a lot of stations. I found I like Mike and Mike. They’re often funny, and have some good guests. Others, eh. I see if they are talking about a topic I’m interested in, or are interviewing someone I like, but often end up switching to a music station.
but it still something that teams like the Royals and Pirates haven’t done nearly as well as the Rays.
I agree, though to be fair to the Royals some of their players like Teahan, I think a lot of respectible analysts thought they would be successful big-league players by now. And Grienke is finally starting to pay off, though they rushed him. I think the biggest thing with the Rays is they didn’t *try* to be “show me” successful. That is, they really didn’t go signing FA that cost them picks (if only a 2nd rounder), or trading really anyone in the farm for a veteran, just so they could say, “we’re trying to win”. Part of that of course was unlike Pitt or KC they have been trying to show how they can’t win w/o a new publicly financed ballpark, but still.
heh heh
Well, I can’t expect you guys not to be excited by our misery, but remember this: the Rays are your problem now too.
