Gameday

For those of you following tonight’s game via MLB.com’s Gameday live scoreboard, you’ll be getting your information from me.  The above picture was taken with my cellphone from my seat behind home plate in the press box.

So far today I’ve met Michael Kay, Suzyn Waldman and Peter Abraham.  I’m not hanging out with them or anything, but it is cool to meet people you “know” from their coverage of the Yanks.  Obviously I won’t be able to liveblog tonight, but I’ll send out lineups when they’re posted here.

Nice seat Larry, congrats on getting paid to cover a Yankee game.  You’ve got an awesome job.

Nice view. I’ll be up in the cheap seats tonight. Is there A/C in the press box or is it all open? Right now it’s about 97 degrees in Baltimore which means we probably don’t see more than 5 innings of the Rocket. L-Viz in the 6th, Bruney in the 7th, Proctor (again!) in the 8th and Mo in the 9th (he needs the work!)

The press box is open, but I have a little fan.

If you go to the seats behind homeplate on the first level, you can climb up to right in front of the press box, and you can see me.

There are five big windows, I’m sitting in the middle one.  I’m on the second tier of seats, all the way to the right.  So you can stop by and wave to me if you want.  Just not during the game, I’ll be VERY busy.

Larry, Awesome.

Did you teabag Micheal Kay? Cuz he’s been asking for it for about 8 years now.

So far today I’ve met Michael Kay, Suzyn Waldman and Peter Abraham.

So there are drawbacks to the job.  Just kidding.  They may be slightly annoying over the airwaves, but, like you said, still cool.

Michael and Suzyn were very nice—Michael is very tall and slender, and Suzyn was actually quite attractive in person.

Big thunderstorms moving though Northern Virginia.  Probably headed up to Baltimore.  Hope they cool things off while not delaying/canceling the game.

If it is over, get your drink on over at Fells Point.

BTW, john, if you arrive when they open the gates you’ll be able to watch Yankees BP.  Nothing like watching Matsui practicing bunting.

Suzyn was actually quite attractive in person.

Botox?

Neat.  Will you be doing tomorrow’s game as well?  Me ‘n the family will be out in the nose-bleeds in left field for that one.

No, I’ve only got this game.  My next game is Sunday.

Then I’ll stop rooting for a rain-out smile

Of course I want to see Wang pitch, but I’ve never seen Clemens pitch in person, and that would be awesome - though even if there were a rain-out that may not happen anyway.

Hope you bring good luck to the team tonight!

Well, so far the home team has only won the first game I did (O’s vs. Rockies) and the last game I did (Nats vs. Indians).  So I guess I’m bad luck for the home team… which would be good luck for the Yanks?

Most of the games have been close, though, so maybe I’m back luck in that way.

Suzyn was actually quite attractive in person.

a friend ran into her once and basically said the same thing, and that she’s in great shape. hooray sooze.

Yeah, I can attest to the Waldman thing.

Please punch Suzyn in the stomach and Sterling in the balls so they cant reproduce.  They are the worst.

That was an extremely weak throw by Jeter.

Way back in the 20th century, Bill James wrote the first essential book about baseball managers. Chris Jaffe has just written the second.

From now on, whenever I have a question about a manager, Jaffe's book will be the first and last one I reach for.

John Brattain Memorial Fund

The Hardball Times has set up a memorial fund for John Brattain's family. He left behind a wife and two teenage daughters.

Four years ago, I found from personal experience how generous the online community can be to its own in their hour of need. I am now literally begging you to be even more generous than you were to me.
