As per Abraham, Hughes has a stress fracture in one of his ribs and will be shut down for 4 weeks.

I hope Melky puts up a 900 OPS this season, or else we could end up really regretting that Santana (non)trade.

You can’t regret not committing 200 million dollars to a pitcher for 7-10 years,  in the first year after you didn’t make the deal. Ok? It’s un possible.

Not even in the first year, this is the end of the first MONTH.  It also seemed like the Twins were willing to deal with ANYONE other than the Yankees, unless the yanks completeley blew them away (read: overpay) with an offer.

Succint comment?

I’d like to point on one thing. Moello. That is all.

One good omen for the Yankees tonight:

look who’s catching.

32 seconds late on that observation.

33, really.

I’m confused by what just happened. I thought only Wang and opposing pitchers were the only starters allowed to complete an inning without allowing a runner.

How well-hit were those outs, though?

I was giving the benefit of the tie.  So, did Girardi stress to IPK how important it is that he goes 6 IP today so they don’t have to use Britton?

So… is this a good or bad thing? Damon is in scoring position after all.

Sorry I’m late lads. I was in the back yard doing sacred chants to the oak tree in hopes that pagan behaviour will help my wee Cennedi regain his balance.
Druids rock.

is that our first three run homer?

Doesn’t oak worship involve shedding blood, or burning captured enemies alive?  And even worse, woad?

Bobby Abreu doesn’t mind RISP.

Wahoo!  That’s the way to hit with runners on!

Unfortunately, that’s the run allowance for today. The Yankees are not allowed anymore.

it’s also the hits with RISP allowance for the week.

ot you think you could leave and come back again

Has Kennedy ever pitched with a lead before? I can’t a-member.

Aye EELZ. I’m gonna do a few more chants. I might even get religion. Pagan style.

the second 1/2 of that inning was much more familiar.

Aye EELZ. I’m gonna do a few more chants. I might even get religion. Pagan style.

The Mets have a player named Angel Pagan.  Is that a cool name or what?

So Melky has 5 putouts already tonight?

Thats a lot of hits out to CF. Any of them really hard?

Someone needs to imprint Kennedy’s mind with “throw more strikes”

EB: I ‘ll bet a Golden Monkey he wears a crucifix.

Moello up this inning, prepare yourselves for his prowess.

The record for putouts in a game by a center fielder is 12 by Lyman Bostock on May 25, 1977.

O, what would you go for? this is important

http://www.leshalles.net/menus/LHP_Dinner.pdf

The moules frites, if you like that - the white wine version of course.  Or the half duck, or the lamb chops.

I thought that menu was going to be some sort of play on someone feasting on left-handed pitching… I think I’m a little nuts.

Lamb like a Mo cutter.

you get a little bit of everything with the planche de grillades. the fries at this place are supposed to be some of the best.

what the hell? did Damon miss a sliding/diving catch?

maybe some damon chops are in order.

“you get a little bit of everything”

Aka a couple of things that are meh and not enough of the excellent stuff - if you’re not lucky, anyway.  Good fries are another reason to go for the moules.

Crab cakes and pork tenderloin.

It looks like I would have loved the place a year ago, but as a vegan there don’t seem to be that many options at first glance.

i think anything off the grill comes with fries. i think it’s gonna have to be something land dwelling.

yeah when the logo is two cows french kissing i’m not sure they’re really catering to the vegan crowd.

my bro was a vegan for 11 years. he had the worst smelling farts in the world.

So much for that good feeling.

Yeah, its an athletic performance thing. Getting rid of a lot of fat especially sat fat makes your body work a lot better. plus animal protein causes to bone loss which I don’t need as a distance runner.

man our outfield looks like moules.

What the hell is Abreu doing

So much for that not-deeply-annoyed feeling.

this is ugly.

I saw this coming when He started to have trouble throwing strikes after he gave up that double though. fuck.

Speed dial to Belfast. Gotta brush up on the Gaelic chants. Goddamit.

wow that must have been one hell of a mound visit

probably something like “if you throw strikes this bus is going to explode.”

Who’s the next cab off the rank after Rasner, Kei Igawa?

Is this going to be like the last couple of nights where the yanks get to the other pitcher in one of the first two innings, and then don’t touch him for the rest of the night?

I predict three more hits for the Yankees for the remainder of the game - each a single.

not to let Kennedy off the hook but Abreu absolutely has to catch the ball.

Who’s the next cab off the rank after Rasner, Kei Igawa?”

Horne?

Horne is still out.

You know what I hate. Improv.

Woo, scoreless inning!  Forgot what those looked like.

Nice rebound inning. Now Kennedy needs to buckle down and pitch 6.

Ugh. New York Stinkees!

Wait.  Shelley Duncan = cleanup hitter? Oh boy.

Uncle Liam informed me I was pronouncing Tigers wrong. There is no word for it. I pinch hit Lions in the chant, hence the 1,2,3 inning.

i’d settle for a rain out

Cano needs a trip a stint on the bench, or even to the minors, i’m sure he’s got options left. He’s swinging at the first pitch all the time and when he makes contact he pops it up and drops his head.

Come on Robbie, try to be a little bit more patient.

The thing really holding Kennedy back is his lack of consistent control over a breaking ball. If he had a reliable breaking ball he could flip early in the count for easy strikes, he’d be a finished product. Right now, his arsenal is incomplete. Now Moeller in a big RBI spot. Man, this season sucks.

Wilson Betemit’s imminent return might be a good opportunity for just that.

it looks like we will have too many month to worry about next season.

cano is the worst player to watch right now. i’m off to eat some cute furry animals. later

According to Gameday, Moeller struck out on a pitch aimed at his knee.

Groan, Abraham’s reporting Hughes could be out until July.

I made the comment earlier that the Yankees would regret trading Hughes for Santana, and obviously that’s short-sighted and reactionary and blahblahblah.  But man, when I think about the Twins demanding Hughes, Melky, and Kennedy, who knew the most valuable guy to the Yankees in 2008 would be Melky?

Anyone doing a pagan chant for Robby? His suckitude is becoming unreal.

Why don’t they just call the Nissan update the Red Sox update? Christ.

Rainout!  Rainout!!  C’mon umps, make it happen.

If he had a good enough breaking ball here against Granderson, this AB wouldn’t be War and Peace. Unless you’re Brett freaking Saberhagen, a fastball/change combo ain’t cutting it at the Big League level. He needs a better breaking ball. And a lucky line-out to Melk on… an 86 MPH fastball. Both he and Hughes need a third pitch. Poor Hughes, BTW. July? Man. Could that have gone worse?

Is there anyone out there we could take a punt on to fit into the rotation (considering Hughes won’t be reaching his innings limit this year now). David Wells, Roger Clemens and his 6-6 record, 4.18 ERA doesn’t look too bad now.

Freddy Garcia?

0-2 to walk. Classic Ian.

Girardi: “Ian, get a grip or your rib is next.”
IPK: “.....”

Outs are incidental right now. These announcers are so hung up on results, and not the process. Granderson hit a hard line drive to center and Polanco popped out on ball four. Both deep counts. This wasn’t a “good inning” before the walk to Sheffield. Hate to say it, but Kennedy just isn’t MLB caliber right now.

these fucking two out rallies

Aaaaand that’s a wrap for Mr. Kennedy.  Meh.

that was fucking annoying. I could have dealt with 5

Girardi: “Ian, get a grip or your rib is next.”
IPK: “.....”

Sounds like something Billy Martin would say.

“who knew the most valuable guy to the Yankees in 2008 would be Melky?”
I was thinking the exact same think 10 minutes ago. Made me think about how postion prospects are easier to project, and maybe they are a better investment than pitchers prospects.

So it looks like we’re replacing those Rasner/Igawa innings from 2007 with… Rasner and Igawa?

“0-2 to walk. Classic Ian.”

I wouldn’t be that mad at the kid. He just doesn’t have the weapons right now. Look at that AB to Sheff. He threw two breaking balls going for the K, but neither were close. He just isn’t ready. By the way, how much more disgusting can these anti-smoking commercials get?

“Yeah, I used to have two eyeballs. But than I started smoking. Was it worth it? I’d say…. no.”

Rasner innings were better than avg. He had a 4.01 ERA. The one that sucked was Karstens

By the way, how much more disgusting can these anti-smoking commercials get?

But that’s the point, isn’t it?

Albaladejo is beyond awesomeness.

Rasner was decent last year (or at least better than Hughes and Kennedy) before he got injured.

I’d give Igawa a shot, he’s on the 40-man and he strikes people out. If only he didn’t give up home runs. But at this stage i’d take his 6 ERA over Kennedy and Hughes 9+ ERA.

The one that sucked was Karstens

Don’t forget DeSalvo and Chase “back-to-back-to-back-to-back” Wright.

You fucking guys are brutal. He was in A ball a year ago.
This is a product of shortsighted planning by the Yankees org.
I hope you don’t have any kids in high school.
Fuck You Stupid.. Walk Home and eat Dogshit for Dinner.

Made me think about how postion prospects are easier to project, and maybe they are a better investment than pitchers prospects.

Its easy to forget that.  Its been a long time since the Yankees had pitching prospects.

Who were the last few pitching prospect that the Yanks had before this crop?

Brandon Claussen
Ryan Bradley
Brien Taylor
Sean Henn
Brad Halsey

They weren’t all busts:
Andy Pettitte
Eric Milton

Kennedy wasn’t that bad today. Abreu needs to catch the ball.

And Damon needs to hold a single to a single.

Kennedy wasn’t that bad today. Abreu Damon needs to catch the ball.

not sure I’d consider Milton a success

John Brattain Memorial Fund

The Hardball Times has set up a memorial fund for John Brattain's family. He left behind a wife and two teenage daughters.

Four years ago, I found from personal experience how generous the online community can be to its own in their hour of need. I am now literally begging you to be even more generous than you were to me.
