Not quite as rewarding as the Yankees beating the Sox, but hey, I’ll take it for now.  I’m gonna wear my Yankees hat to the big Obama rally in Boston tomorrow night, and the Sox/Patriots fans can all suck it.  New York pride!

Best NY sports moment since Boone’s HR in ‘03, I’d say. I’m not a huge football fan, but that was an amazing game.

Bellichek can’t believe he made that new sweatshirt for THAT?!

what an arrogant prick.

Just awesome.

New York > Boston

As a Jets fan, congrats to the Giants.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen such an exciting Super Bowl. The Broncos/Packers was up there, same with San Fran/Cincinnati. But none had the personalities, story lines, rival cities and long odds that this had, not to mention a perfect season in the balance. I couldn’t be more psyched for the Giants. And I’m a Jets fan.

One of my earliest sports memories is celebrating the Giants’ Super Bowl XXV win over the Bills by riding around the house on my Dad’s shoulders. I was eight years old at the time. I don’t remember the game at all really, I was just really excited that “we” had won the game.

This is the first Giants Super Bowl win that I really got to see, and boy is it sweet!

For me that was their first one, in XXI.  I was nine then.  Didn’t ride on my dad’s shoulders, but same type of thing.  The only thing I can really say I remember - and I’ve seen replays of a lot of other stuff since then - is the McConkey (sp) catch off of Bavaro.

To me SB XXV was right up there as well.  Similar with the end-of-game prayers going up - missed FG vs. not completing a pass to set up a FG.  Awesome time to be a Big Blue fan.

That number “18” once again rears its ugly head for Boston.  They always seem to get stuck on it in some way.  I think I knew it would be a good day when my high school buddy Chris Drury scored the game winner against Montreal earlier in the day as the Rangers rallied back from 0-3 to win 5-3.

As a Giants fan, watching with my Giants fan-filled family, last night was unreal.  I can only hope this is a start of things to come for NY teams (but not the Mets, of course).

There can be only one…

Now back to baseball…

Rotoworld ranks the Yankees top 15 prospects.

It’s interestng to look back at their rankings for the previous 5 years, too.  Like: Who’s Ramon Ramirez?

I was thinking the same thing about the comparisons to Super Bowl XXV.
I’ve been a life-long Bills fan so I surely wasn’t riding around on my father’s shoulders, . . . I was crying in my bowl of Fruity Pebbles the following morning. I didn’t understand at the time that part of being a Bills fan requires you to anticipate and accept continuous letdown.
Yet, we have a “fair” chance of making the 6th seed in the playoffs next year.

In any event, kudos to the Giants; possibly the best game I have ever seen in my life!

Whippersnapers!  I was XXIX for XXI.  And get the hell off my lawn.

I didn’t understand at the time that part of being a Bills fan requires you to anticipate and accept continuous letdown.

Well, since that was the first one, it’s pretty understandable that you didn’t yet grasp the full cosmic significance.

I was at a party near Union Square.

It was amazing going up to roof to hear the sounds of New Yorkers celebrating.

So awesome.

MC I can’t believe I know something you don’t. Ted Hendricks was the Raider LB. He was on the 76 Superbowl Team. I dont know if he made it into the 80’s. He was a great player.
Thanks for clearing up the Gallo stuff. I shoulda axed my father in law. He’s not fluent but knows all the food and body part translations.

The Ron Cey miss by anyone over 45 is tragic. I just stared at that name and said, “coupla more years to the old folks home are I” The Penguin. Not a big Goose fan was that featherless fowl.

Ramon Ramirez was the guy we traded for Shawn Chacon, so yes, Ramon Ramirez saved the 2005 season wink

He actually did very well in 06 (60+ IP of 142 ERA+ ball) but got hurt in 07.

Way back in the 20th century, Bill James wrote the first essential book about baseball managers. Chris Jaffe has just written the second.
- Rob Neyer, ESPN.com

From now on, whenever I have a question about a manager, Jaffe's book will be the first and last one I reach for.

John Brattain Memorial Fund

The Hardball Times has set up a memorial fund for John Brattain's family. He left behind a wife and two teenage daughters.

Four years ago, I found from personal experience how generous the online community can be to its own in their hour of need. I am now literally begging you to be even more generous than you were to me.
