Normally, I’d say ‘Whatever’ here, but Joe Girardi’s already said it for me by putting Ransom in at 3B.  Go Yankees.

3-0 with the red hats.

Ransom will go yard.

Are there no RHP in the rest of the league?

Are there no RHP in the rest of the league?

Sure doesn’t seem like it.  Scott Richmond was originally supposed to start and he’s a righty, so I guess this is just a case of injury leading to bad platoon luck. And a lefty is scheduled tomorrow (Ricky Romero). Poor Eric Hinske.

*/ Tennis:

Wimbledon, BTW, is completely ridiculous right now.  It’s the fifth set, so no tiebreak, you have to win by two games…and it’s now 12 games to 11, Federer over Roddick, they remain on serve.  One of the most epic matches in the history of Wimbledon.

/

I would have sat Arod yesterday and used Hinske, glad they didn’t listen to me.  I think a righty was riginally scheduled to start today so Hinske would have got the start over Ransom.  Still it would be good to get Hinske in the lineup.  How is he defensively compared to Ransom?

For some reason I just don’t like Roddick so go Roger.

Chamberlain be Joba, not Corey.

Teix got the start!

That 1/2 inning is finally over.

That tennis match is pretty epic.

24 pitch first inning.  I can’t wait until he’s more efficient.

It’s amazing that A-Rod didn’t just lose to Longoria, but got CRUSHED by Longoria.

Think he’ll make it as a reserve?

I like this lineup.

Per Abe’s blog, Girardi is making noise about the value of Hughes to the pen. I guess he’s leading the Hughes teh ate charge, with the not stretched out as a reason for not starting Hughes. But like I said, CMW will likely be out at least 4 starts, so even if Hughes doesn’t figure in on Thursday, with the All Star break, Hughes should be set up and stretched out by the 4/5th spot in the rotation after the All Star break. Maybe break up Joba Hughes back to back.

Cano up. Whatever.

Sterling was vague; Did Teixeira have a decent chance to make it?

It had to be close, I’m completely assuming from listening to the radio. Teix must have thought his scrappiness earned him his All Star start.

Cano hit a grounder to 2nd with RISP?  I think my computer is in a recursive loop.

Teix was safe.

A ground out to 2nd from Cano?  Shocking.

From Gameday, that looked as good as any pitch for Cano to smack, maybe he does need a day off. Oh well, hopefully better next at bat.

Sterling was vague; Did Teixeira have a decent chance to make it?

He and Youk were back and forth, so yeah, it was not a surprise, but still, Youk was leading at the last update, so it’s good news that Teix made it!

Pedroia, though, pulled out a last minute win over Kinsler.

What just happened? Do baserunners run often like that?

Go go efficiency.  Love the pick-off.

[20] I assume it was about the play at the plate.

Out of Cano’s last 10 ABs, not counting the clever tactical bunt, how many grounders to 2nd has Robbie hit?

Just got back form a mini run.  Yay Roger but who won the big event yesterday at Coney Island?

Teix was safe.

He and Youk were back and forth, so yeah, it was not a surprise, but still, Youk was leading at the last update, so it’s good news that Teix made it!

you guys are making me question my sanity.  Teixeira was thrown out, right? and maybe only safe in the “in a just universe” sense?

Ha!

Sorry, I’m talking about Teix winning the vote for the All-Star Game at first base.

As for the play at the plate, Teix was called out but he was pretty clearly safe (he was tagged with the hand that did not have the ball).

I can’t believe Wakefield made the All-Star Game.

[26] He was out, but the umpire didn’t get the call right, so yeah, “in a just universe” sense.

Sterling: “If he missed it must be by inches.”

Waldman: “He missed by two seats.”

Are the seats that tiny? Plus, I hate the radio voices.

I CAN believe Mo made it.

10 All Star appearances! Woah.

I like that this team has gone back to owning lefties. Last year was so frustrating.

Beckett AND Wakefield make it, but no CC.

Bulllllllllllshit.

who won the big event yesterday at Coney Island?

Chestnut. I didn’t want to admit it, but he’s now the best in the world.

A-Rod did not make it as a reserve?! What the hell!?

CC isn’t really having an All-Star year.  Of course, neither are Beckett or Wakefield.

Joe Maddon is laaame.

Posada > Cano

Yeah, CP, that was my problem. If ONLY one of those two made it, I’d be fine with CC not making it.

So, did you guys read that Cano “misunderstood” the sign yesterday?  That’s just Girardi being nice instead of saying he make a huge bonehead play, correct?

There’s no way a major leaguer could think he was supposed to bunt on 3-0, is there?

Don’t we want Arod to take the three days off, and CC not to pitch?  The All Star game might have meant something once but no more.

A-Rod is not even one of the Final Five that the fans vote on.

So lame.

Yeah, obviously at the end of the day it isn’t a big deal. A-Rod did not even make it in 1999, during his prime (also due to injury), but it’s still annoying.

And yes, hopefully this means Posada will be batting 5th tomorrow!

Electrodes should be attatched to Serling and each time he says how hard it is to figure this game he should get a shock of increasing intensity but sub lethal for about a week and then if he persists he gets fried(or fired).

The radio voices initiated their own challenge on who is less knowledgeable regarding the AAA starters just before. Really disgraceful, considering who the starters are at AAA is very relevant considering CMW’s injury, and they had the overnight to do their homework. Stupid radio voices.

For everyone else listening on the radio, that “it is high” Sterling tease was fucking lame.

[41] I’m fine with Alex and CC getting rest during the AS break.

I would have hoped Arod would have opted out even if picked.

To follow up, they described the starters in AAA by looking at the games started, therefore, the radio voices believe Casey Fossum is still on the roster.

[48] That was my hope, too, but come on, the guy’s got to be picked, at least!

Not even an option for the Fan Vote?!? Brandon Inge, is, though?

I hpe Swish walks so we can see Robbie with bases loaded.  Maybe a five run lead will relieve the pressure and he’ll get a hit.

Inge is having a hell of a year, to be fair, and he can really pick it.

I would have hoped Arod would have opted out even if picked.

You hate Alex that much? He’d be slammed by the media, ya know.

Though, maybe you like Alex for just being Alex.

I don’t even remotely hate Alex, I love the Yankees and I doubt if the media would slam Arod for opting out given his hip surgery but if they did BFD they’d look pretty foolish.

I don’t know if this means Girardi doesn’t see Hinske as a 3B. I could see him going with Ransom to avoid a lefty-lefty. After all, Ransom does need to play some, too. On top of that, Richmond (RHP) was a late minute scratch. I imagine if he stayed in there, we would have seen Hinske at 3B.

[54] Sure, I agree, but I don’t underestimate the media, and their static is really loud and annoying.

Come on Joba, kill your inner Corey.

Man, Lind is a PITA.

I was hoping for a laugher.

I know the road is leading where I want to go, but it’s a damnedly tortuous trail, it is.

Can shift right now to the universe where Joba just starts dominating?

Can shift—> Can we just shift

And Cano should bat lead-off.

Joba pitching so slow, didn’t work though.

Nice to see the Yankees take a big lead, and a starter can’t hold it through three innings.

Shut up radio voices.

Let laughter return, score runs here.

Pretend you;re a MLer, Cody.

[62] Look at the scoreboard again.

Radio voices are actually getting worse as they age. Hard to imagine, but true. Gravel Gertie has no business being a color announcer in any league.

[65] It was a four run lead, now one. Blowing three runs isn’t what you want from a starter in three innings.

Is Hinske really worse against lefties then Ransom?  Is his defense hopeless at 3b?

[68] It’s worth finding out.

btw, Pena is better than Ransom.

Chamberlain + this offense should not be only one run ahead of that guy + that offense.

Wow, Ransom makes me want to swear a lot.

What does Ransom have to do to be DFA’d?

To paraphrase a song Tom Paxson once wrote about Agnew “this is a song about all the good things Cody Ransom can do…...............”

And, again, all with two outs.

Thanks Joba, thanks a lot. A slovenly performance, again.

Thanks Cody.  Yes I too yearn for the halcyon days when Joba was unhittable,

Sorry, I meant that the SCORING came with two outs, just like last inning.

Just to twist the knife a bit more.

Ransom is on this team because?

Joba’s penchant for 3-2 counts dooms him if he can’t stop it.

The bullpen is spent and will now be put in debt.

Joba forgot how to finish guys off

Because he’s a white guy who can JUMP?

What’s really aggravating is that this is one of his few recent starts where has actually been given some run support, and he blows the lead in less than four innings.

Throw strikes.

Joba has pretty much sucked ass this season.  Disappointing to say the least.

[79] I might say Cashman, but j can’t stomach any blame aimed at Brian.

I’m honestly shocked that he has given up six runs in less than four innings.

And all the runs scored with two outs.

So unbelievably aggravating.

The Yankees do not get nearly enough out of their $65 million payroll advantage.

From a no brainer to a fcuking disaster.  Ransom should be playing in an independent league in Buttfuck, Idaho and Joba has turned into torture.

Way to hold it together, Joba.

Some Job-huh.

I would try Joba in the pen for a few weeks to see if his velo comes back. My guess is it won’t.

Well, this is just terrible.

EIGHT runs in less than four innings.

All with two outs.

I don’t really blame Girardi too much here because of the bullpen shortage, but damn, Joba looks spent here.

I hate to say it, but ... Joba to the pen?

At this point, a tired Tomko couldn’t be any worse.

What an awful mess.

Well done by Girardi as well, allowing Joba to melt down to this extent. Girardi is clueless.

John Brattain Memorial Fund

The Hardball Times has set up a memorial fund for John Brattain's family. He left behind a wife and two teenage daughters.

Four years ago, I found from personal experience how generous the online community can be to its own in their hour of need. I am now literally begging you to be even more generous than you were to me.
