A pie for Jorge !

Yesss!  Can we please bat Jorge 5th, Joe.

[289] Cano must have missed the sign.  Teixeira was basically standing on 2B.  No lead at all.

Smart bunt otherwise 4-6-3, IBB Jorge, and Swisher K.  Right out of page 666 in the Bill James handbook.

POSADO makes everything better.

Hip hip 4th of Jorge!

Two-man game for the pie.

So, how’s Pena’s defense at 2B?

Cano all about team, personal glory not important

Yeah, I think Clay is right.  Cano is smarter than you think.  He did that to ensure he didn’t hit into GIDP.

Actually, all 5 of his previous ABs ended the inning.  So it was likely he was going to hit into a triple play if he didn’t bunt on 3-0.

Yay win and Happy 4th to y’all!

I think Wombat is right about Robbie—his body language, the smirks when he fucks up, the streakiness, etc, etc—he needs to be handled like a kid, like a rookie.

Posada said in the postgame that he thought something was wrong with Wang because it looked like he just laid the ball up there on the pitch that Lind hit out, rather than actually throwing it.

Cano doesn’t need to emote like Paul O’Neill but every once in a while I’d like to see Cano exhibit a little Andy Petitte displeasure with himself.

[312]  Wow!  If true, that’s a really bad reaction to being hurt.

Wow!  If true, that’s a really bad reaction to being hurt.

Or he went into the windup and the shoulder grabbed him, causing him to throw a meatball.

I’d like to think if his shoulder hurt before the pitch he would signal the trainer and Girardi for more reasons then I care to enumerate.

Robertson and Bruney were worrisome and we were very lucky to escape their joint escapade with only one run.

If Wang out one game Hughes probably stays in BP for Serge Mitre??  If multiple games I hope Hughes gets the starts.

Girardi: “Wang had an MRI. He has a shoulder strain and some bursitis. He’s probably going to need some rest. He will be re-evaluated.”

On Cano, Girardi said: “He misunderstood something.”

Girardi is “confident that Wang will be back. I just can’t tell you when.”

They will have to discuss who starts on Thursday.

Obviously, it’s tough to give anything like full faith and credit to Yankee diagnoses or Girardi injury evaluations.

Gardner’s pop flies not dropping in lately

Francesa must be amazed that the Red Sox can do everything right and the Yankees can do everything wrong… and they’re separated by one game.

I’m amazed that Francesa can dress himself

I’m amazed that Francesa can dress himself

That’s assuming he does, in fact, dress himself.

If Wang out for more then two starts at most Hughes must get the gig.

Watching this game in a hotel In Quebec. I just want to know if Jesus Montero can play second base. I want the Robbie Cano era to end after this season. And yes, I’m only half kidding. I think…

That’s assuming he does, in fact, dress himself.

I’ve heard that Parcells comes by in the morning to dress him, actually.

Pete, that’s how rumors get started.

They can’t really trade him now but perhaps he could try a Stuart Little thing, either that or self flaggelation, or getting moved to the 7 hole.

Wow, McNair shot dead.  Unreal.

[328]

That would be unspeakably cool, Frog.

I would be proud to be responsible for that particular irresponsible rumor.

[330] ??!

Way back in the 20th century, Bill James wrote the first essential book about baseball managers. Chris Jaffe has just written the second.

From now on, whenever I have a question about a manager, Jaffe's book will be the first and last one I reach for.

John Brattain Memorial Fund

The Hardball Times has set up a memorial fund for John Brattain's family. He left behind a wife and two teenage daughters.

Four years ago, I found from personal experience how generous the online community can be to its own in their hour of need. I am now literally begging you to be even more generous than you were to me.
