[186] If Wang goes to the DL, they can just call Melancon up without losing Robertson. Or they could just DFA Tomko, who has thrown a grand total of 2 innings in the last 12 days.
You’re missing the point. The point of making a roster move would be to make a 13 man pitching staff into essentially a 14 man pitching staff to help you out with that missed start. I guess it depends on Wang’s diagnosis. They may need a more long term solution.
Seattle with the win.
IBB?
Cano shall deliver.
M’s win.
How well did Tex hit that. Gameday has it at the wall in center.
[201] But how are they gaining an extra pitcher by sending down Robertson? He only pitched one inning today and will be available to pitch again on Monday? Also, don’t they only have a 12 man staff as of right now? (Actually, 11 plus Tomko) Unless Swisher counts as the 13th pitcher.
Punctuation skills!
13, 12. Whatever. Pitching staff = X.
Use Robertson (or whoever) however you want to use them until the day that Hughes has to start. Then send down the 1 reliever that may not be available because he pitched 2 innings the day before, or 3 days in a row, or whatever, and bring up Melancon. It’s like having a staff of X+1.
PH Swisher batting righty for Cano?
But then you would lose Robertson for 15 days. Why not just lose Tomko for a useful pitcher?
Cano, you are fast becoming my least fave. Wasting talent one AB at a time.
[209] I see what you mean, but its really just stealing an extra couple of available innings from a reliever for one day (the guy you call up is available that day rather than they guy you send down not being available for one day). Don’t see how that’s any better than just DFAing Tomko who isn’t available any day that isn’t a blow out.
Damn!
Stubbornness is such an endearing trait in a manager.
Man, Cano has been terrible. Seems like all of those 0-19 w/ RISP ABs were ground outs to second base.
[210] Seems like a no brainer. I still don’t understand why you would ever bat Cano in front of Posada right now? If you must split the lefties, bat Matsui 5th.
But then you would lose Robertson for 15 days. Why not just lose Tomko for a useful pitcher?
What’s worse.. having Melancon instead of Robertson for 15 days, or having Igawa start for Wang while Hughes gets up to 80-90 pitches>
At this rate we’ll get a Tomko and a Swisher appearance. Yay!
It seems like the Yanks could probably get by using Aceves to shadow Hughes, and get 5-6 innings from that. Or use another starters throw day to fill up some innings.
I highly doubt Igawa ever sees the mound in the Stadium this year.
[218] I don’t see how those are the only options. They could just as easily DFA Tomko right before the Hughes start and call up Melancon to have an extra arm that could be used that day.
And until then, if there is a blowout along the way, get some last innings eating out of Tomko.
[219]
Both pitching, Clay?
Cano should be sent to AAA after this game. I’m only half kidding.
Both pitching, Clay?
Oh yeah!
I’m pumped.
Good jump, Gardner!
Wang’s next start is scheduled against the Twins in their Dome. It will follow AJ and CC facing the Twins, so the BP shouldn’t be insanely taxed heading into that Wang/Hughes/Igawa/??? start.
Of course Coke had to go and dominate for that inning and mess that up. Damn it.
I LOVE Gardner in CF.
8 pitch inning from Coke. Of course he’ll be pulled for Tomko if the Yanks don’t score. Pleeeeeease score!
[218] I don’t see how those are the only options. They could just as easily DFA Tomko right before the Hughes start and call up Melancon to have an extra arm that could be used that day.
Ok. This is basically the same thing. Get rid of a pitcher the day before Wang’s next start (DFA Tomko, send a pitcher to AAA, trade him to the London Silly Nanny’s) and bring up someone fresh for that game. The whole point is that it’s entirely doable, and it didn’t involve having Hughes run up video game numbers in AAA, which some people wanted.
[228] Well Coke can usually go 25 pitches before reaching threat level midnight, so let him start next inning? Actually, why am I asking its Melky walk-off time.
I’m hoping for another key AB by Cano in this game.
Nice AB Jorge.
True Yankee moment . . . ?
[233] Wasn’t Swisher True Yankee moment his inning of relief?
Vest voices don’t want Hughes to start for Wang because Hughes has been “too dominant”.
Hell of an inning.
Wow! Great inning there.
Wow! Great inning there.
Is there some sort of gas leak in your house, Don?
Vest voices don’t want Hughes to start for Wang because Hughes has been “too dominant”.
fortunately no one important listens to them.
Love when 3-1 pitches are no where near the zone.
Tomko warming. Nooooooooooo
[241] Hopefully, that is just in case Swisher gets in trouble in the top of the 12th.
Melky has a good arm…
[242] One move ahead. I like it.
A run here wouldn’t suck.
Someone tell the Yankee batters that Tomko is warming. They’ll know what it means.
I bet Damon can throw a mean Eephus
[243] Teix also seems to be able to control where the ball is going when he throws it, which is more than I can say for Tomko.
Coke pitched great. Nice.
I understand the Yankees’ strategy now. They are going to tire out Hill until he can’t field balls anymore. Brilliant.
[238] ???
[249] I think there is actually something to the whole “keep Coke below 25 pitches deal”. He seems to be very reliable since they decide to stop using him for extended appearances.
If Tomko comes in, I retract my former prediction that the Yankees are going to win this game.
Earlier, Radio Vox were talking about how good Tomko has been this year. It made me so….angry.
[251] Confusion is a sign of gas inhalation.
Radio Vox were talking about how good Tomko has been this year.
He was great. In AAA.
Damon, if you don’t hit a HR, or at least not make an out, this game is over. Tomko is coming in. TOMKO! For the love of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, hit a freakin’ walk-off.
Don’t think the Yankees care about winning this one anymore.
Tomko Roulette
If Tomko can not give up a HR I’ll be happy. Considering he’s giving up over 2 per 9, I doubt I’ll be happy.
[251] Confusion is a sign of gas inhalation.
No, Don saying something that doesn’t point to Cashman being stupid or ARod being a prima donna is a sign of gas inhalation.
[254] Thanks for nothing, since [237] certainly has nothing confusing in it, just pure sarcasm. I think j has the gas leak.
Despite knowing that Tomko was going to come in, I’m still surprised that He’s entering the game before Aceves.
[260] Silly boy. I’ve made many a post without mentioning the Cashman. Or Alex in a negative way. Thanks though for a very confusing post.
I’ve seen this Tomko movie before-I hope the sequel has a differrent ending
At least Tomko is going to throw so many pitches this inning that he won’t be able to pitch 2.
I think j has the gas leak.
I see what you did there.
Glad the director changed that line in the script slightly
They need to score a run here.
The funny thing is that Tomko doesn’t have bad stuff. Gameday has him sitting 92-93 with the fastball. Given that he’s a billion years old, you’d think he’d know how to pitch.
Anyone know what’s the issue? (eek! that was close!) Bad command? Fastball too straight?
If Tex and A-Rod can make outs, Cano will hit a walk-off solo jack.
I’d walk ARod.
Man, take it personal, Robinson.
Please pinch hit Hinske.
Ground ball to second base from Cano upcoming…..
After the IBB and 4-6-3 can Swisher win the game?
Of course. ARod getting a ton of respect. And I guess at this rate Cano will GITP.
269—Career hr rate around 1.25…..dude’s always had a big fat hungry gopher.
I approve of this bunt!
Take sign, Robby.
Take sign again.
jeez
Fire Girardi now.
What the fuck is that?
Only Robinson fucking Cano would do that.
Even Sterling disapproves of that bunt.
WTF? Anyone want to defend that bunt?
That’s just awful!
If he did that on his own, bench him.
Why would you bunt on 3-0?????????? Gotta be Girardi’s fault, he must have had the take sign or did he just miss it?
He is such a fucking head case!
He should be fined and suspended by the team. What a joke. The guy is mentally ill.
Anyone want to defend that bunt?
Better than a DP?
You do not bunt on 3-0. Ever.
That’s.. a personal insult
Keep blowing bubbles you ahole.
That’s not Girardi’s fault. Everyone thought he was taking. Tex didn’t move. Must have missed the sign. Cano must be really dumb.
But, yeah that was fucking awful.
And all is forgiven. But not forgotten.
Nice finish. Hip hip . . .
Jorge Posada…the new #5 hitter!
