Would it kill the Yankees to win a game?

I’m just happy to get away from the previous thread.

Maybe it’s one of those thrillers where if the Yanks win a game, some little girl is killed by the bad guys and the Yanks are just stalling until the hero can rescue her.

And I take zero responsibility for the last thread.

If the yankees get 5 games over .500 the bus will explode!!!

Damon’s putting together a nice season.

Cano and Melky need to step it up.

I am going to follow the game on the internet - I don’t need to hear any media wanks tonight.

Cano and Melky need to step it up.

It it understatement day and everyone forgot to tell me?

Melky’s at about league average for the season, right?  He’s not the problem.  Maybe Jeter could start hitting better than him…

Bpro has Melky at 2.7 offensive runs below average for a CFer. He probably makes that up on defense.

Jeter’s in the same boat, only reverse the offensive and defensive numbers. Jeter will probably be better now that he’s no longer hurt.

Smooth turn! The Moose Magic continues!

That was unexpectedly awesome.

cano is the main problem to me his performance at the plate is disgusting how many pitches does he see per plate appearance? do i even want to know?

Can I just say I’m looking forward to seeing the lineup tomorrow with Posada penciled in?

Might I note how amazing it is that Damon is hitting .305?

Can I just say I’m looking forward to seeing the lineup tomorrow with Posada penciled in?

AMEN.

Might I note how predictable it is that Jeter struck out swinging?

ps how do i get those sweet italics?

[16] Missed your comment predicting it.

For italics, use standard html.  Try ctrl-u and searching for the italicized string.

God bless Matsui for being such a strong DH this year, with runners on the bases hes the only one i feel good about at the plate.

Good Lord wake up Cano!

[21] 5-pitch AB, last pitch was too close to take - what do you want from Cano?

Good Moose day?

I want him to hit like the hitter he is, im not asking THAT much. hitting .216 with a .263 obp is not acceptable in any way shape or form.

Please don’t leadership the team into another double play, captain.

I apologize for chiding you, Captain Sweetheart!!

Wow- quite a swing by Rios on a 2 strike deuce.

I love it when they start talking about what a leader Scott Rolen is.  Such a leader that he led his way off two teams where they hated his guts.

[28] If you could point to solid evidence it wouldn’t be “intangible”.

Good moose.  Good.

I don’t get it - the Yankees scored, but the Blue Jays didn’t score right away.

What gives?

Wow, AJ Burnett has the highest ERA on the Jays at 4.32.  He’s the only one over 4.00.  That’s starters and relievers.  Quite a staff.

By the way, the Yankee offense is obviously totally disappointing. That said, the AL East really does seem to have more good pitchers this season.

Way to go Beta-Meat!

Ha! I was just writing about that, DaPuj. Yeah, it is nuts how good some of this pitching has been - and by the by, woohoo, Wilson!!!

Cano looked confused as he rounded first, like he didn’t know where to go next.

Maybe Wilson should give Robinson a rest.

I wrote that one JUST as he was doubling. smile

Remember when this team regularly had 3-0 leads?

THREE runs?!? What team is this?!?

Flaming Moose.

I would be so happy if The Yanks could win the WS this year and Moose be a big part of it.  The guy’s perseverence is impressing me this year.

OK, bring on the rains!

Haha! I love that thinking, Pags!

Let the skies open up!!

How awesome is Mike Mussina?

So awesome.

[42] I would love to see Moose do something so that the talking heads would finally give him his due. The guys had a great career, it just hasn’t had the nice, succinct, round-number-type accomplishments that people notice.

To me the ultimate Moose revenge would be to finally win 20 games when everyone is talking about him (and his HoF case) like he’s already retired.

Moose winning 20 games would be high comedy.

Most people wanted Mussina out of the rotation before the season even started.. the pendulum has really swung.

That’s why it would be so hilarious, j.

I want Moose to win 20 games.  Snotty education represent!

No,seriously, he’s been the most pleasant surprise this season.

Bah humbug, moose’s ERA back over 4.0

If Moose got the strike zone Maddux and Glavine had back in the day he’d be borderline Ace.  In fact, I think Moose is a better pitcher than Glavine over his career.

Maybe Mo can pitch three innings!

Moose. smile

Job well done, my friend!

But Glavine pitches with the appendage coming out of the left side of his body.

Prowess!

Glavine and Moose have similar career ERA+ and similar ERA+ peak and distribution, but Glavine has 1000 innings on Moose. That’s a LOT of innings.

Molina says, send Moeller down not me

I actually remember talking about this back in 2006 when Mussina had an awesome first half.  Not inconceivable for Moose to have a good year, win 20, have the Yanks go to and win the WS with Moose picking up 2 wins and getting an MVP. Unlikely, sure, but not inconceivable.

Hey, what is the deal with Moello? Can he be sent down to the minors or does he have to be put on waivers again?

Would like this run, plz.

Moeller would definitely have to pass through waivers to make it to AAA.

YES! Thanks, Johnny!

When Posada rejoins the lineup, Melky and Cano will be the only sub 100 OPS+ guys, assuming DJ keeps his head above water.

Is anyone following this on MLB.com? Because the site won’t load for me.  mad

Its working for me

Damn - Moello wouldn’t make it past waivers - that blows.

Oh god, not with this passed ball garbage again.

Who represents snootier education, our starter or our reliever?

I think our reliever.  All that, y’know, green leaves on walls that people care about.

Moeller passed waivers once this season… no reason to think he won’t again.

Yeah, but recently he’s looked kind of decent.

Depends on what side of the country you’re from.

Crap. Now MLB.com isn’t working for me.

I think they are having server issues or something, because I can barely get the front page to load.

I’m on ESPN gamecast, which is ugly and hard to follow.  Anyone got a better suggestion?

Yes comes in pretty good but you need a dish, receiver and television.

I’m a fan of CBSsportsline.

Old Thurm, your words are USELESS to me.

What I really need is a friend with such equipment.  And cold beer.

Does DirecTV get YES?

You know for all the crap we give Farnsie and all the heart attack he gives us, he actually has a positive WX and WPA. I would not have guessed that.

My MLB.tv is back…

Also, from what I recall when I looked into it, you can get YES on satellite services, but the games are blacked out outside of YES’s region. I could be wrong about that.

Dear YES,

Kyle Farnsworth’s 7th inning versus 8th inning split is probably not meaningful.

Your Pal,

John

Fgas. Consider me a friend with equipment, cold ales, DirectTV. I’m here for ya bro.
Commute to New Haven.. A burden for you.
Tell me when. I’ll defrost some Omaha beef. We’ll boogie.

I’m on the next flight east, OTF.

striking out rios.. i respek dat

I like when Eelz be speakin ghetto an shit.

Thanks, Kyle.

unlikely friendship with willie nelson? how is that unlikely

Also, from what I recall when I looked into it, you can get YES on satellite services, but the games are blacked out outside of YES’s region. I could be wrong about that.

Not entirely true.  You can get just about all the games except Saturday afternoon games on DirecTV if you subscribe to Extra Innings.

What annoys me is that they black out replays and stuff on YES.

Seriously, how wonderful is Mo?

I want to make some sort of weird photo caption with Mo but I couldn’t do it justice.

Mariano is an artist.

I kinda wanted Hawk for a couple of batters so Mo could get a save.

god i love you

Nine wins for Mussina.  Who would have guessed that?

haha i was thinking the same about farns otf

if you subscribe to Extra Innings.

Well, yeah, that’s what I meant.  cheese  You can actually get the entire YES network too, but, I believe, the games will be blacked out. You have to get EI to get them.

Nice job Yanks.

The road back to .500 continues…

Now I am wondering about who the pitching staff at the All-Star game will be.

Way back in the 20th century, Bill James wrote the first essential book about baseball managers. Chris Jaffe has just written the second.

From now on, whenever I have a question about a manager, Jaffe's book will be the first and last one I reach for.

John Brattain Memorial Fund

The Hardball Times has set up a memorial fund for John Brattain's family. He left behind a wife and two teenage daughters.

Four years ago, I found from personal experience how generous the online community can be to its own in their hour of need. I am now literally begging you to be even more generous than you were to me.
