Blogs.NYPost.com: Sherman - 3 UP: Joba, Giambi/Abreu and Epstein
The Yankees are strongly weighing sending Joba Chamberlain to some form of extra pitching—likely either the Arizona Fall League or the Instructional League—as a way to further build his inning load this season to better prepare him to start in 2009, Hardball has learned.
The Yanks already have determined they will have Phil Hughes go to the AFL and are leaning toward doing the same with Ian Kennedy. But the most interesting case, as always around the Yanks, belongs to Chamberlain and his valuable right arm.

I’m fine with it. These prospects are men, even supermen. Phil will look good tonight. Peace and prosperity will be restored next season.
Pity the poor AFLers who have to face Mr. the Hutt.
I don’t like what I am seeing so far, but I’d like to see how he looks next inning.
Don should be along any minute to discuss pitch counts in an intellectual manner.
I don’t like what I am seeing so far, but I’d like to see how he looks next inning.
It’s good of you to wait two whole innings to judge a 22 year-old pitcher.
Hi y’all. I, the president of the Phil Hughes Apologist™ Association, am here to defend my boy. Anyone miss me?
And right on cue, a clutch GIDP from the Captain. Well done, DJ. Well done.
Where’s the president of the DJAA?
Derek Jeter doesn’t back down from SG’s challenge to break Bernie Williams’ all-time GIDP record at the YS, it would appear.
gameday has solid radar readings thus far. He’s used all four pitches and has 2 Ks in one inning. And as per usual his curveball is ridiculous. Yeah, Phil Hughes is gong to be alright.
I like Derek Jeter. He is a fantastic baseball player, and really cool. I don’t believe that he won all the World Series rings by himself, but he is pretty darn good baseball player.
Plus, ladies like him. That can’t be bad.
Holy crap thats a lot of pitches for Hughes
Where’s the president of the DJAA?
I was wondering that myself. Presumably s/he is too busy penning a paean about Jeter breaking a silly record of some sort.
Hughes needs to throw first pitch strikes. Or, generally speaking, more strikes.
Stop . . . fouling off . . . my man’s . . . pitches!
“It’s good of you to wait two whole innings to judge a 22 year-old pitcher.”
It’s equally good of you to pounce on that like a rabid, frothing, snagglepuss.

this is clearly going to end well.
Better, actually.
this is clearly going to end well.
All we need is Don to come along to complete the happy family dynamic.
“to complete the happy family dynamic”
Too bad there’s no baseball on Thanksgiving.
But there will be baseball on the High Holy Days! Which in my family is equally as good.
If only I could remember when those days were
Dear Phil Hughes:
Throw more sliders.
Love,
Your Pitch Count
Dear Phil,
Please get your location right.
Thanks,
sam.
Stop . . . fouling off . . . my man’s . . . pitches!
Bears repeating.
Hughsie hangin’ in there, though. 3K through 2 innings. But 57 pitches is not so good.
How can one fight on Yom Kippur?
“Please get your location right.”
More low in the zone? Less over the plate?
I can deal with the high pitch count, not a huge issue (yet). The total loss of location is troubling, although the Ks are nice. Uribe was pretty over matched on the pitches Hughes actually threw close to where they were supposed to be.
“More low in the zone? Less over the plate? “
I think it is more low in the zone. But generally speaking, he is missing Pudge’s spots.
How can one fight on Yom Kippur?
I was thinking Rosh Hashana.
Incidentally, Clayton Richard has a no-hitter through 2 innings. I repeat, Clayton Richard has not allowed a hit through 2 innings.
Cabrera seems to have Hughes’ number.
Cabrera seems to have Hughes’ number.
At least he had the decency not to foul off 39 pitches before getting his hit this time around.
“I repeat, Clayton Richard has not allowed a hit through 2 innings. “
It bears repetition that of the seven hitters faced by Clayton Richards, none of the hitters have been able to hit a baseball with a bat in the fair territory that have not been caught or have not resulted in a throw going to base before the baserunner could reach the base.
Michael Kay has a humongous head.
So, Papa Johns is sounding pretty <strike>good</strike> bad.
Hughes seems to be settling down a bit.
Aaaand there goes the no-hitter. Well done, us!
This just in: Melky still sucks.
RH Melky? Why?
26 pitches through 3 for one pitcher, 71 for the other.
Jesus Christ on a pogo stick, but this team sure does suck!
Steve Lombardi must be sitting at his keyboard by now, rubbing hands together gleefully.
“Steve Lombardi must be sitting at his keyboard by now, rubbing hands together gleefully.”
A sentence of advice: Stop reading his entries.
Steve Lombardi may be spontaneously combusting for all I care.
Mary Poppins, Al, really? My wife’s favorite movie. Thanks for mentioning it. Now I have to watch it.
Is Phil Hughes completely unable to throw one in the dirt?
Just as I type it, he proves his capability. I am clairvoyant that way.
A sentence of advice: Stop reading his entries.
I pretty much have, but I just can’t stay away when I know he’ll have something particularly enlightening to say tonight.
Steve Lombardi may be spontaneously combusting for all I care.
We should be so lucky.
I stopped reading when he posted how he told his friend that everyone who read his blog was calling him an idiot. His friend said “Well, that’s why people read Mike Lupica right? They think he’s an idiot, but they keep reading, so that’s a good thing, no? Steve agreed. That’s when I checked out.
Michael Kay is wrong. The 1998 Yankees took less pitches than 2008 Yankees. The Championship teams were not more patient, they were just, better.
Nice swing Damon. Learn how to throw this offseason, huh?
Anyone who did not read what Yup wrote-comment 2, previous thread, needs to see it.
Short Sweet and as funny as can be.
I salute you Big Y.
Oh great, now Flaherty is trying to convince us that having guys who can hit home runs often is a bad thing. Oy vey.
Looks like Hughes is done. Stupid high pitch count.
[52] Thought it was kinda unuseful, myself.
In related news, I just learned that, because I switched jobs this summer, my health insurance was cut off July 1st, rather than the September 1st I assumed (as that was when it started last year). My new health insurance doesn’t start until November 1st. (Why? I don’t know.) So this makes my decision of whether to spend a fortune on COBRA easier.
Frog, you probably know this but you can’t have more than 3 months between policies starting an ending, otherwise the preexisting condition crap comes into play.
Good luck, theFrog. A couple of years ago we had one of those situations before Rilkekind had to spend a few days in the hospital - fortunately we were (just) on the right side of the preexisting condition chasm, though they tried to argue otherwise and billed us for the full insane amount. The US so needs UHC.
Ah yes. The defending MVP.
Cutter looked real good, hung too many breaking balls. I’m OK with this start. Back to Torts.
You just gotta love it when this team faces any pitcher with an ERA over 6…
I don’t know about the rest of you guys, but I’m pretty high on Coke.
Coke’s line has been pretty impressive in his sting. Hopefully he won’t blow it.
Coke makes me feel good, too.
Stint, not sting. Doh.
Thats some pretty good yayo.
Whenever I see a line of Coke’s I get really excited and sometimes I start sweating!
4 clowns that have watched Scarface a couple of times.
When you look up “washed up” in the dictionary, do you see Pudge-Rod’s picture?
Coke has a crackling fastball… its a blast when you experience it live.
OTF, forgive me if you’ve answered this before, but are you also, OYF from Bronx Banter fame?
Cano’s probably smiling now, the bastard.
Last one, I promise.
At least one Phil can freeze a lineup.
Sometimes after Coke leaves, my nose starts bleeding though. :(
Dude, how hard is it to learn to bunt? That was awful form.
That was one of the dumbest bunts I ever saw.
At least kept out of a DP.
RE 71. Thats a negative Schteeve. I rarely even lurk there.
Why? Is he a fool that cant spell or write like myself?
I mean, I haven’t bunted a baseball in 13 years. But if they sent me up there, I’m not saying I would get it down, but I would look right.
I mean, except for the part about being fat and ugly.
[77] He’s curmudgeonly and lovable like yourself.
Maybe i’ve said too much.
Can we boo Jeter now?
i want someone to count the number of times this season the Yankees have gotten a runner to 2b or 3b with no outs and not managed to score.
Then I want to eat a hand grenade for every time it’s happened.
It is very hard to get a quality line like Coke’s this cheap nowadays. This kind of good stuff is usually expensive.
Gehrig would have driven in a run there…
82. yeah, i remember in the 80s when you could get a great Coke performance without breaking the bank.
Aww shucks Schteevo. Me like u too.
Well, at least in the majors. In latin america, these lines can come very cheap, even if the stuff is not all that good.
This sort of easy jokes during Coke’s time with the yanks are going to be very bad and hard for this rehabing addict.
But if they sent me up there, I’m not saying I would get it down, but I would look right.
How about if they said “Hey man, quit your job, workout all the time, do nothing but play baseball and in about a year we are going to ask you to get a bunt down during a game.” Thats a better comparison.
Is Kate Smith moving across the street next year too?
Need a Shot from the Nimster here…... I doubt it.
They should have a between-innings event in which they bring fans down on the field to bunt.
*I* would probably do as good a job as Melky, or better. And that’s considering I’ve never held a bat in my life!
The X-Man delivers!!!!!!!
WE here for ya Yfin.
Want some coffee?
Looks like Uribe was in Nady’s way there.. maybe Nady should have run into him?
YM. Never held a bat? Blasphemy I say.
Cute little creatures. Rats with wings.
They don’t care if the music is loud.
I thought that too sir.
Thanks OTF. Had some not long ago. It’s not really that hard, otherwise I wouldn’t be making jokes on a website.
Love them cheap runs.
OTF: Having worked in a lab for 6 years, I think I’ve handled enough rodents to last me several lifetimes.
But I never held a baseball bat, either.
Anyone here ever gone fishing for bats? It’s easy. Tie some fishing line around a pebble and throw it into the air. The bat thinks it’s food. As soon as you feel the tug, yank down hard so you dash the bat’s brains on the ground.
Yfin good luck to ya lad.
It is hard. Plenty of pals have shown that to me.
