AP: Yankees Win 27th World Series Championship
Can’t get enough.

Got a feeling these will some heavily frequented archives.
be some. modammit.
Can you believe Mo hasn’t given up a postseason home run in 9 years? Or that, at almost 40 years old with a bum rib cage and 40 pitches thrown, he was still able to pull it out?
Or that Jeter hit .400 in yet another postseason series when most people declared him finished last year.
Our HOFers are amazing.
Yankees have a lot of Hall of famers. Arod, jeter, Hinske
Reposting from earlier thread:
I remember how I got here. Grad school sucked, and to top it off, Yankees, after the legendary Aaron Boone game, do a 180 next year against Boston in ALCS. After taking great pleasure in lurking over the lamentation in SOSH earlier, things took a rather violent turn for the worse. I was looking for a good Yankee website to commiserate. I found Bronx Banter, but still would go to SOSH time and again.
To make matters worse, Yankees signed Tony Womack in that off-season. It was at this point I saw in one of those Red Sox blogs somebody post “Mahnken doesn’t like it.” Curious, I headed over to the link, and saw the post titled: “Out With the Old, In With the Crap.”
This link also has a post by the deceased John Brattain, and of course a bunch of awesome posts by SG and Larry.
One of the highlights of those dark days was this post by Larry. What ensued in that petition was utter pandemonium and hilarity. Just look at the comments. If you have some time to kill, please read the comments in this petition.
Needless to say, after Bronx Banter went the SNY way, this site has been my one stop Yankee commentary site. And I don’t think I have to look any place else.
Lincecum busted for pot.
sam, some of those comments on the petition actually had me on the floor laughing. I totally forgot about that whole thing.
It seems like ages ago, but probably only because I had to repress it all to the deepest recesses of my memory.
Timmaaayyy.
Do any of you older tri-state guys remember an FAN caller named Vinnie from Queens? He was a nut-job Yankees fan much like ourselves.
I was laying in bed last night thinking about how much 3 hours of sleep was going to suck, when I thought of this frikkin guy.
I googled him today at work and found out that he perished in a car crash back in ‘96.I kind of felt bad over the loss of someone I never met.
Anyway, he missed the good times.
I really have no idea why I thought of this guy except he seemed like the kind of freak that would be all over RLYW. Like us.
Good Mo! We are all full of estrogen in the last 24.
Reposted from earlier thread:
Yay win, yay you’z allz! Yankee rulz!
[7] After all, you were cutter back then.
Nice job by Girardio on the way home last night. He’s one solid dude.
Think about that being your sis/wife/daughter/girlfriend.
The Clay Bellinger counter is still going on the old site. I found that amusing. I remember the days of pre-registration. Don’t think I posted that much back then, as I was just trying to learn as much as possible. I now don’t let a lack of understanding prevent a post.
Womack received some serious hate. How Cashman was able to trade for him for an actual baseball player was beyond me.
This is something:
107. William Wordsworth
Words and phrases that rhyme with “Womack”: pathetic hack, send him back, deserves the sack, I want to give him a hard smack, makes fans want to smoke crack, we like him like Kobe liked Shaq, less production than Babe Ruth’s plaque, get him off the warning track, I’d rather have a tumor on my ballsack.
[13] Two, in fact.
IPK, AZFL: 5 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 2 K.
The league limits pitchers to 5 IP/game.
[15] IPK has been pitching pretty well stats wise, although he really hasn’t been preventing runs.
Lincecum busted for pot.
I couldn’t be less shocked.
[15] & [16] Isn’t the AFL an offensive heavy league?
Did you guys know that Clay Bellinger has actually been to a World Series since cursing the Yankees?

If you would have told 13 year old me after Griffey Jr scored that run off BlackJack McDowell that the Yankees have 4 players in their system that will guide them to the playoffs 13 of the next 14 seasons and five five five five five WS titles, I would have called you a liar and questioned how they would ever be better than the Mariners, Indians, Orioles, and Braves. Then I would have continued shedding tears of sadness.
I would have eventually said, “Wait, a reliever, a pinch running third string catcher, a SS whole didn’t even play in that series, and a starting pitcher in the minors are THE four? Maybe that Gerald “Ice” Williams guy, or Sterling Hitchcock, or that Ruben Rivera fellow will become something special, but not the guys you listed.”
What a great 14 seasons! There have certainly been valleys, but that is just making this peak, or summit if you will, all the sweeter.
In conclusion, WORLD CENTAURING CHAMPIONS!
When does THT publish Larry’s “Why the Yankees Beat the Phillies”?
[20] I remember going to a Navigators game when I was like 8-10 and seeing Ruben Rivera hit a Grand Slam. He was good. In that same game there was a huge brawl. The Navigators had this guy who always got into fights. He was in the thick of it, wrestling on the ground and was ejected. An inning and a half later he came running out of the dugout with his shirt off. He was yelling at the ump and pointing to his chest. Apparently the opposing player he was fighting with bit him.
My dad spent the rest of the day laughing. I really wish I could remember his name.
[18] That’s what one reads. Dunno about the defense behind IPK. Probably it’s silly to put up these #s but I’m hopeful he’ll contribute next year and going forward so it’s hard to resist.
What was up with the all the balls thrown at Alex!? Or even the one to Teix.
Some scores to settle during interleague, I think. Not saying it’s right or wrong, but Girardi is supposedly the type.
Timmaaayyy.

Wow, talk about a bringdown, thurm.
I remember Vinnie. That’s quite sad.
Speaking of the Hermida deal, you’d be surprised to hear this, but Gammons likes the deal for the Sox.
[24] Some talking heads were saying before game five that the Yankees would get even in ST as they and the Phillies share Florida and will play.
Jeter was Minor League POTY in 1994 and the #6 overall pick. People saw that one coming. Not me of course, I was a little kid.
I remember being slightly older and reading around 1999 or 2000 an article called “Is Derek Jeter the next Yankee Hall of Famer?” I thought, of course, it’s Derek Jeter! But I guess it wasn’t a slam dunk until recently, huh? (I also vaguely remember thinking “O’Neill will get their first.”)
“I really wish I could remember his name.”
Kyle Farnsworth.
Dear Brian.
Thanks for making me feel like Veras you mick bastard.
I’ll never open myself up to my Yankees loving friends ever again.
Astoria? buy a Mets hat you hibernian douchebag.
I threw your superman book into Thurm the katt’s litter box.
Rollins is doing lunch there.
Our friendship is so effen over you Princess Die looking tranny.
Done I say. I say.
Buy a Yugo, stupid.
Hey guys that aren’t BC. Ya think I fooled him? I think so.
When I rage people quake. Brian must be Schilling bricks.
His Superman shit is actually pretty good.
[30] I really hate that band and all their works. I had to mute the tv after the final out - that song’s appropriate for when your junior high soccer team wins the league final, not for the Yankees.
Taylor Swift is beautiful and talented and all that, but in the Rock Band ad, from the back, in that dress, trans’d.
Thurm, I wonder if Vinny from Queens saw the World Series in ‘96 first. I would hope so.
I recall another late night caller, a woman, that passed on not too long ago. Doris, I think.
[33] Werd.
(Finally, the complaint thread!)
By enjoying Queen, I have committed no crime.
Doris from Rego Park, spoke with a little cough in her throat. Sad to say, I can’t remember anymore whether she was a Mets or Yankees fan.
Yankees have a lot of Hall of famers. Arod, jeter, Hinske
Hey, every team Hinske goes to makes the World Series. Coincidence? I think not.
I now don’t let a lack of understanding prevent a post.
We noticed that! (I kid, I kid)
Probably it’s silly to put up these #s but I’m hopeful he’ll contribute next year and going forward so it’s hard to resist.
Yeah, the biggest thing is he is pitching and getting innings. Obviously they still have this whole “offseason” thing to do, but I’d say as of right now IPK projects to be the Yankees’ 6th starter heading into the year; maybe 7th starter if they can get a solid veteran (like Towers again) for AAA.
Hey, I said it was sad that Vinnie died! I was empathizing!
Anyone going to the parade today?
My lady’s office is on the 47th floor on Wall Street, so I’m going there this morning to check it out.
[27] When I read this, I had an “Animal House” flashback. ARod, Jeter, and Teixeira dressed all in black, sneaking into the Phillies clubhouse after dark to steal the Phanatic…(”...it’s just blanks right?”)
Jeter was Minor League POTY in 1994 and the #6 overall pick. People saw that one coming. Not me of course, I was a little kid.
I remember 1992 (15 at the time) when they drafted Jeter, reading about him and getting excited. Starting to think of in a few years when they would have Jeter AND Brien Taylor in the big leagues! They along with “Bam Bam” Meulens (who would greak out any day now) and Tartabull would lead the Yankees to the promised land! One out of four ain’t half bad…
If anyone wants a laugh, go to FanGraphs and check out the comments in the post about the Hermedia trade. One of the guys there is CONVINCED that Hermedia will be to the Red Sox what what O’Neill was to the Yankees, and this trade will put Boston back on top.
Sure, Hermedia could break out and hit 300/400/600 next year. Then again, so could Melky.
Would there be a way to set up a post of people who snag some pictures at the parade today? And if you’re going to the parade, drink for those who can’t! (because they live in Virginia and have to work today.)
That would be Doris in Rego Park. I think she was a Mets fan.
From the last intro:
“Sure enough, my pop was right. I remember jumping into his arms nearly one year later after Charlie Hayes caught that final out on October 26th, 1996 feeling pure elation. The Yankees would go on to win three more World Series Championships within four years. Those later three titles would all come as I was attending college in Rhode Island among many a Red Sox fan. And yet, I never took any one of those wins for granted. Not one. “
This really moved me. I think I might have mentioned it before, but I too was consoled by my father in tears after Game 5 in 1995, just like Jonathan. Unfortunately my Dad died of a rapidly spreading cancer before 1996 came around and Game 5 was the last game he ever watched. I remember standing in my living room after they won the pennant in Baltimore in 1996 and just sort of looking up into the sky and thinking about him, whishing I could give him a big hug.
ah well.
My dad spent the rest of the day laughing. I really wish I could remember his name.
Shelley Duncan?
Some scores to settle during interleague, I think.
June 16, 17, 18. By the way, June 18 will be my father’s 90th birthday. If you guys think I’m a cantankerous old fart, you ain’t seen nothin’.
I thought that settling scores in ST was somewhat frowned upon.
Is there any footage of Hideki answering a question in English or speaking English at all?
By the way, June 18 will be my father’s 90th birthday.
Small world; my Dad’s is the 18th as well. He’ll “only” be 63, but certainly fits the “cantankerous old fart” label.
[46] Probably. Unless you mean anything more than “thank you”. I seem to recall Pete Abe earlier this year or last year talking about Hideki answering a question or making a statement in English that was funny.
He obviously understands English quite well. I’d say he either A) is embarrassed by his accent or B) is smart in having the interpretter there so he can quite literally claim a quote was “lost in translation”.
[47] Cool. So my dad’s been an old fart for about as long as your dad’s been alive.
[48] My guess is that he understands, but the translation gives him time to think his response through more, but more importantly so that he can be absolutely sure he understood right. Many times when I was in Taiwan I’d have my cousin translate even if I thought I understood to avoid potential embarrassment by making a response that was not correct/appropriate.

I can usually manage not correct/appropriate responses when the person is speaking to me in English. Maybe I should get an English-to-English translator?

Huh?
Joke failure!
Since Ivy used a translator when she thought she understood to avoid making inappropriate responses.
Even though it’s in English, when I think I understand I still make inappropriate responses.
Therefore, I need a translator so I don’t make in appropriate responses.
It was much funnier in my head.
It was much funnier in my head.
Or as MC warned, I should be funnier.
Almost thought that should, a la AJ, be “funner”.
